april2021. rated 5. went here for a late midweek dinner with friends following an online reservation ahead of time.
we ordered the five-course degustation ($120pp) with matching wines (regular at $95pp). the food was impeccable, show-casing fine techniques, fresh produce and perfectly matched with great wine choices. complimentary bread was provided on request to finish off our main meals. the courses were rounded off with complimentary chocolate and melon-flavoured macarons.
service was friendly and efficient. smart, refined yet cosy ambience. prices reflective of fine dining.
overall, a triumphant return to montrachet!

dec2017. rated 5. was excited to book a table for two at this celebrated establishment to celebrate my partner's birthday.
we were promptly seated and brought out menus. after ordering drinks of white wine (highly recommend the 'sancerre'), we got to the meals:
for entrees, we ordered the cervelles d'agneau panees- beautifully crispy crumbed lambs brains and quite a hearty starter, and the coquilles saint jacques- perfectly cooked scallops with enticing accompaniments.
for mains, we had the seafood bouillabaisse- a delicious seafood broth with depths of flavour, accompanied by decadent garlic butter and crispy croutons, and the lamb cutlets - perfectly cooked and juicy.
finally for desserts, we ordered the apricot souffle- impressively light and moist souffle with delicate flavours of apricot, and the chocolat de passion- can see why it is award-winning; beautiful layers of flavours and textures.
our dishes came out all promptly, apart from desserts however the restaurant was full and bustling at this point in time, and we were happily sipping on calvados.
our waiter was marvellously passionate and happily enjoyed chatting in french with my partner.
ambience was fitting for a classy french restaurant.
would highly recommend for date nights or special occasions. we would love to come back to try their degustation menu as well.

a dear old friend and i dined at montrachet for a thursday lunch, and it was divine, as has always been my experience here.
we started with an aperol spritz and bread with truffle honey butter. the parfait came with orange brioche and was an elegant mix of flavours.
i had a simple brown onion soup with delicious gruyere toast, while my friend had the crab soufflé.
we both chose the larger eye fillet steak which made me feel bourgeois, but why when it is this good?
and then we shared a creme brûlée which was incredible from sugar crack to scrape of plate.
i'm already planning a return trip even though my dining budget is limited...worth every cent.

absolutely amazing supper club degustation at montrachet on a friday night. each course was perfectly complemented by a selection of wine. i usually find french cuisine to be heavy and very creamy, but each dish at montrachet was light, fresh and delicious. the service was impeccable. thanks shannon and clare for a wonderful evening.

it was spectacular! the truffle butter was aromatic and creamy to begin with. the crab soufflé was light, flavourful.. it is also not too cheesy. my duck was cooked perfectly. so tender and juicy. the skin was not as crispy as i'd prefer but totally can overlook that. bouillabaisse was jam packed with flavour and fresh seafood. ended the night with their award winning dessert - chocolat de passion. amazing! it was not too sour or sweet. the balance was on point.

atmosphere wise, think moulin rouge. red leather sofa, classy and fancy looking. it was cosy and comfortable. lighting was dimmed but by too much. you can read the menu easily still. as much as it is fine dining, you don't feel like you're wound up. the place does a great job at making people feel at ease.

service was exceptional. waitress was friendly and helpful. attentive at all time. have to say it's better than many other fine dining restaurants i have been to.

would definitely recommend it to people and will go back.

came here with a group of friends for a degustation dinner and all i can say is 'wow'. it was small and cosy. the food was amazing, one course after another. i love the crab soufflé and the scallops with truffle. it was also my first time tasting the foie gras and blue cheese and i have to say, it was pretty good. i would definitely come back, hopefully soon!

my impressions were that this place is loved by its regulars die to their exceptional customer service. they truly go above and beyond to make sure that patrons are happy and they seemed very flexible. i had the degustation menu. i honestly wasn't blown away like i had hoped to be. simpler flavors would have been better. i must say though that the creme brûlée was devine. the lamb rack was also pretty fantastic but not big enough of a portion.

we have been going to montrachet for years, under the previous management/chef and loved it. this was our first experience with the new chef, shannon. the food was good, most dishes as good as they were with thierry previously though probably not good enough to justify the prices, but the we were shocked to have visit from shannon who quite aggressively defended the cracked plate we had complained about, and the music. apparently it wasn't cracked, but hand made and the scar was deliberate in some way (could have fooled me). what happened to 'the customer is always right', even if they aren't?! never mind, brisbane is full of fabulous restaurants these days so we can go else where and you might want to consider the same.

came here for my birthday dinner. i had been hearing for years that this of all places was the place to go for an amazing steak and fries. my husband and i both ordered the steak. they came out cooked as we had asked and with a mountain of fries and a salad. it was definitely tasty and definitely filling. my only issue was the price tag. i don't mind paying for quality, however i felt a little ripped off when i've had equally good steaks at other restaurants that didn't cost $48.50 each. would i go back? sure but only to give other french dishes a go - not for the steak.

i had been wanting to go there for years, and when i finally did, i was a bit underwhelmed. my companions loved the honey truffle butter with bread to nibble on. i wasn't so fussed on it. we had only mains after that, and i got the eye fillet, which, for $47.50, was a bit disappointing and dry (i like medium rare), and the bernaise was a bit too lemony. my friends had the duck and a chicken dish, which was also disappointingly dry. it's very expensive, and to be honest, i expected a lot more from the food. their wine list is great, and i think that was our saving grace! i'd like to think that the chef was having an off night, as the menu is very appetising. i would like to go back to see if it lives up to its name, but i'm hesitant.

a very disappointing experience. we have frequented montrachet over a dozen times over the years so were excited to head back again. unfortunately this time will be our last. we attended a 'friday night supper club'. although i understand the concept behind this night the food that was served reflected none of the montrachet that we knew and loved and the many many times we have enjoyed a beautiful degustation meal there. no flavour, no seasoning, little skill came through in the dishes and no clues that we were in eating in a french restaurant. the degustation menu was poorly constructed leaving you hungry and unsatisfied between courses (a good degustation with quality food will be perfectly balanced and never leave you hungry regardless of the portion sizes). when we gave our honest opinion to the staff when asked it was handled very poorly, he became defensive and rude and lacked knowledge about the nights menu rather than handling our feedback with grace. due to the complete lack of quality to the food the entire table left hungry and unsatisfied.

there was a clumsy offer passed on from the chef as we were leaving which was done with no genuine intent. it was almost a backhanded offer which we didn't take up as we had experienced rude service from 4 staff members at various times at this point and just wanted to leave. the little things like not receiving butter to accompany our bread until everyone's plate was empty on the last savory course, and then no butter knife to accompany it and 3 people avoiding eye contact when we tried to get one.

the only redeeming feature of the meal was the dessert which was actually nice.

i just can't understand why the so called acclaimed chef needs to hide behind the name of a restaurant that was a brisbane institution and ruin it. if he is that good he should have been able to stand on his own two feet. my guess is that he isn't.

i used to go to montrachet quite regularly for work as it was a favorite for one particular client.  the french culinary technique is without parallel in brisbane, but the tables are jammed together so tightly that i have witnessed patrons knocking things off other tables on several occasions as they try to navigate between tables. the simplicity of their beef carpaccio is delightful and very tasty.  the tartar, on the other hand was not to my liking.  most people rave about the souffle au crabe au gruyere, and even though i don't love crab, i was impressed with the dish.  the eye fillet is my go-to meal.  can be a bit pricey, but that really depends on how many courses you eat and how much alcohol you drink.

a celebratory dinner was in order for the other travel bunnie’s recent career achievement (i’m screaming from the top of my lungs with excitement here, someone please hashtag omg) and both of us thought of montrachet. for all the food lovers in brisbane, albeit a foreign word, montrachet can’t be any closer to our hearts as for years, this establishment served hearty, buttery, french deliciousness that few of us could resist. i mean, how many restaurants out there that you are aware of would dare to close their doors on weekends? as cliché as it may sound, montrachet is, without a doubt, our favourite french restaurant in town. when i found out that after eleven years at the helm, montrachet proprietor thierry galichet was letting go of the reigns, my heart sank. i messaged the other travel bunnie and expressed my great concern and advised that we were to have a nice, long meal there as soon as possible before thierry left the establishment. easter was long gone and we still hadn’t dined there as we were busy with this and that… extremely sad. i know.

service was pathetic!!!! food was average!!! for a world renowned chef you would think he would have at least made an effort to serve up something good that won him so many medals. the maître d' needs to learn more about customer service. never going back!!!!!!!!!
