montalto restaurant

very disappointing experience. for a fine dining, chefs hat restaurant our group expected better....it took them about 25mins before giving us menus. we ordered the 3 course meal. entree was tasty, although the dish was labeled king george whiting ceviche, it was more like sashimi.
it took another 45mins before our mains were served and the chocolate fondant for dessert was cooked all the way through, no gooey chocolate centre. this was mentioned to the maitre d, and a replacement dessert was offered however we had already been there for 2.5hrs (due to slow service) and wanted to go home so we declined the replace dessert. the maitre d offered to only charge for a 2 course meal rather than a 3 course meal, which was nice of them. however when we arrived home we realized we had been charged for a 3 course meal and the deduction was not made.
the basil infused olive oil and olive bread given was delicious and the cheese platter was a generous serving...shame about dessert and overall service.

over rated, over priced, slow service - absolutely not worth it - in fact seriously not worth it - coffee was ok though !!!!!

the dessert was definitely the best part of the meal. mains were slow, over cooked, bland etc

a bit disappointed actually, for the price of the pizza it was pretty humble, tasty but nothing worth the rave. they had a cool once-off collaboration of olives which was interesting.

private picnic at montalto - they do not properly cater for the dietarty requirements listed on their website. i would not recommend this to anyone who has a dietary requirement, even though their website says they cater for you, they do not do an adequate job of it.
i organized a private picnic for our anniversary which was in a beautiful setting in the montalto vineyard. i specifically told them when booking that i am pregnant and confirmed this detail the day prior as well. when we arrived we were so excited. we opened the eski and the first dish was raw salmon, then next dish was cold octopus. i called the restaurant who told me everything was pregnancy safe and if i am not comfortable eating something to let my husband eat it. there was also cold spatchcock, goats cheese salad and a cheese platter all of which i did not eat. i spent a lot of money for some bread, dip, salad and desert. my husband tells me that the food was delicious but i expected more from a hatted restaurant that says they would cater for me.

beautiful food and location. have been to montalto a few times and always impressed with their food and service. prices are decent for what you get and the wait staff there are always very accommodating.

i always recommend montalto to friends and family who are looking for a nice winery to dine at.

last sunday was the long awaited day of the inaugural peninsula picnic on the mornington peninsula. when i woke up in the morning i couldn't believe that the melbourne weather had actually held its promised and the sun was shining from a cloudless sky. we packed my camera, our picnic rug and sunscreen and headed on over to the peninsula. pthe last dish of the day for us was the montalto kitchen garden rhubarb & almond tart with kitchen garden verbena anglaise and lemon confit from montalto.
the tart wasn't what i expected but still very delicious. the little almond cake had a dense consistency and a lovely almond flavour. the rhubarb on top was hiding underneath a layer of the smooth anglaise and little crunchy bits of lemon.

we picked the ‘mushrooms, fetta, sage, balsamic reduction’ pizza ($17.00). the pizza matched delightfully with our drinks and had sweet undertones.

perfect afternoon out. whenever we have friends stay with us on the peninsula we make sure to visit montalto for al fresco pizza. the garden is beautiful and service is always with a smile.

5 star restaurant. this place is amazing atmosphere amongst the vineyards. afresco café in garden with gourmet pizza's is scrumptious and the more upmarket restaurant was beautiful, we went with large group and was spoiled the whole night through, food was amazing! can't wait to head back again soon.

10/10. beautiful food, wonderful service. the staff were brilliant. john dory was a flavour explosion ,deserts were a hit. will definitely visit again.

love this place! we ate in the piazza a few days ago which was lovely, it's a very beautiful little kitchen garden set up with tables under umbrellas. the food was great - loved our pizzas, especially the prosciutto one. the service was average, waiters tended to drop and go very quickly and water was lukewarm but we weren't drinking much of that, the wine is to good here. we enjoyed the wineries pinot noir, highly recommend. this is a gorgeous winery, lovely to walk around and lovely wines to try. will definitely return when we are next down the coast.

a regular visitor at the piazza for several years & returned again yesterday. it will be interesting to see the impact of recent changes to seating & commencing table service. food as always very good using fresh local produce & herbs & veg growing in the beautiful garden surrounds. it was good to see some new menu items. fresh, young staff were eager to please. will remain one of our local favourites. give it a try.

superb dinner. a totally gorgeous and classy venue for a wonderful meal. we were cheerfully served by lesley, who was just one of the welcoming and helpful floor staff at montalto's. lesley was magnificent with a choice of menu, our wine selection and the purchase of fragrant olive oil made by montalto's (we were slurping it from the spoon it is so delicious)!!. the food was spectacular commencing with warm olives, olive bread and oil. followed by magical scallops and terrine. for main we chose the pork belly and duck which were both sensational with a side of beans. managed to squeeze in dessert also, which did not disappoint. salted caramel and meringue - yum!! the views are to die for which is a glorious added bonus. thank you so much lesley for treating us to a wonderful night out. our glass was never empty, and your courteous, helpful, down to earth style was a pleasure. thank you so much to all the team. compliments to the chef of course. jo and dan xx

my favourite restaurant, full stop! fantastic service and amazing food. the duck for main & sherry & raisin soufflé for dessert were superb. can't wait until the next time!
