beautiful surroundings and views! staff friendly. we experienced the private picnic option. after some wine tasting to select our preferred tipple we were given directions and handed a map and made our own way through the vineyard to our own private picnic setting. food was in an ice chest waiting for our arrival. white tablecloths and table all set! it was beautiful to just sit there alone and enjoy the tranquility. food probably not as good as what you'd receive in the restaurant but it's a picnic and it was more than enough. recommended for the experience of dining out in your own private setting away from the busy restaurant.

fine dining winery restaurant with a spectacular view! the food is always seasonal and their home made olive bread is devine!!!!! it is worth the drive and the price tag - an outstanding regional restaurant!

we enjoyed a nice lunch here in the restaurant. the dishes were good but there were not many stand out dishes, our mains were on the bland side. no complaints about the service. great scenery, i can see why it's popular. if we visit again we'll try the picnic option in their garden.

beautiful winery but seriously impressive wait time! if you're going on a weekend my tip is to get in early as we waited 2 hours just to get a seat! food was high quality and well portioned, but what set this place apart was the ambiance - stunning open plan balcony overlooking a lovely winery. pizzas were nothing special, but the wine was good and views to die for

had lunch in the casual dining area. had the pork pizza and panna cotta for desert, which were both scrumptious. pizza had a fair bit of garlic on it however so beware. was drinking the rose & pinot noir, the pinot was my favourite and definitely worthy of taking some home. great atmosphere & scenery. only minor negative was that the dishes didn't all come out at the same time and the waiters refused to give us some lemon which seemed weird.

we have been coming here at least once or twice a year for the past five years and are never disappointed. if you want a fine dining experience, the restaurant is delicious, the service is great, and the room is elegant with great views on the beautiful vineyards. if you're after a more simple/cheaper experience, the cafe is delightful, especially on a sunny day: we love to sit outside in the garden, surrounded by flowers, veggies, and beautiful vineyards! the pizzas and salads are delicious, everything is so tasty and fresh - most ingredients are grown and/or produced on the estate or in the nearby region. the place is often very busy so the service can sometimes be either a little forgetful or rushed but it is usually friendly and overall satisfying. the wine is not the best in victoria but it is pretty good - i really like one of their pinot noir. they also make delicious olive oil and other produce. after lunch you can have a stroll around this beautiful estate and discover sculptures and contemporary outdoor artwork hidden around the gardens and vineyards. i highly recommend this place for any occasion and at any time of the year (although better when sunny), whether with friends, family, or for a romantic lunch. the cafe is great with kids too who can wonder around the garden while adults chat or wait for their food! (will add more photos another time)

we arrived early at the piazza part of montalto. 1130 on a summer holiday sunday. easily got a table overlooking the vineyard. service a bit slow to start but meals arrived quickly. pizzas ok. squid a hit and the winemakers lunch worked well. granita lemonade for kids and rose for adults. a very relaxed sunday family lunch. plenty to purchase from the cellar door when you leave....

been to montalto twice and from my experience i prefer and recommend the piazza restaurant outside! it's a different experience sitting outside amongst beautiful nature & at a fraction of the price.
the side of soft cheese was tasty!
the prawn entree was a standout dish! perfection on a plate. wanted to lick my plate! choose that for your entree, you won't regret it.
lamb for the main was also delicious and cooked perfectly. the chicken for the main was just okay. wait was way too long between entree and main- approx 30+ min. this is a fine dining place - so prepare to pay $$$ for small portions 😉 oh & great service from the blonde lady with the accent.

great afternoon at montalto winery and restaurant. my blue eye cod was delicious.

highly recommend if you're down at the beach for the weekend.

the red wines are really lovely. the rose is dry and refreshing. the whites aren't to my taste but my friends thought they were lovely too.

i've been here twice now.
once to the restaurant and once to piazza cafe. both awesome places. staff are friendly and super accommodating to my dietary requirements (gluten free and vego) food is delicious, wine tasting you can do before lunch which is great to try before choosing one to have with your food. both times i've been it was busy but the service was still great!
location is gorgeous, both times i've been it was sunny and you can enjoy your lunch whilst overlooking the vineyard. the afternoon sun felt like you're in tuscany. highly recommend this winery and restaurants. will definitely return.

food is quality i felt like an indian prince being waited on by his servants who live under the stairs, take a lady here on a second date and she is yours not even joking you can't lose.

amazing meal, had the degustation menu with matching wines and enjoyed all seven courses and wines. the waiting staff were very attentive and helped make the night memorable.

what a place! beautiful gardens and location. food was great, ate in the piazza but surroundings made it worth while. probably best place in red hill

despite the fact that there were renovations happening to this beauty when myself and 4 girlfriends went there, it is one of the most picturesque wineries on the mornington peninsula. we very happily participated in the wine tasting then proceeded to the garden area to enjoy a bottle of chardonnay. staff we okay, not exceptionally friendly though unfortunately. we didn't eat but are certainly keen to return to check out the newly renovated pizza bar!

stopped at montalto for lunch on saturday as part of our winery tour around the red hill area. we had an organised shared lunch that included grilled halomui, roast potato, quail, roast duck, brussel sprouts in duck fat, chargrilled broccolini and kale with hummus, and cos lettuce salad. it was quite substantial and lovely setting for lunch. one of my only criticisms of this place would just be that it is so busy, it's obviously really nice and has great food and wine and attracts a lot of people, so it's not as quiet and peaceful as some of the other wineries.
