we stopped at momma's for the first time while traveling through louisville. we heard about momma's on food network's diners, drive ins, and dives. some great options to choose from. normally i would have tried their smoked meat by the pound or huge beef ribs. however, i wanted to try a few of their options. so, my wife and i got three sliders (pork, brisket, and chicken), anorderof their fried pickles, a side of cheesy corn, and i added four wings. every thing was great.
their meat is all dry rubbed and smoked. the pork, chicken, and brisket were perfect. this was my first time tasting smoked wings, and it won't be my last! the fried pickles (which were made using sweet pickles) were great, and i hate pickles.
we will be stopping back at momma's on our way back through louisville!

atmosphere was typical of a barbeque place and was nice. the service was great and the staff very friendly. the price was average. the food was mixed. my friend had 1/2 chicken, fries, and slaw. the chicken was moist and had a good smokey flavor. the fries were really good with a seasoning on them. neither of us cared for the slaw. it was a vinegar base and we both prefer ours sweeter and creamy; it was neither. i had a pulled pork slider, brisket slider, baked beans, and potato salad. the pulled pork was good. it was already sauced (not how i'm used to it since i'm from alabama) but it was smokey, moist, and i liked the sauce. the brisket was disappointing. i love brisket but it was too dry for my taste. the baked beans were good but i added some bbq sauce at the table for extra flavor. the potato salad was not for me. it was mustard based and i like that but it was missing something, possibly sweet pickles or relish. we also had aorderof wings as an appetizer, and they stole the show!!!! they were hands down, the best wings i have ever eaten. they appeared to be smoked with a dry rub (?) and then fried. they were perfect. they were crispy, smokey, and yet tender and juicy. i sauced them a little because i really liked the two sauces at the table but they did not need sauce. if i was a tad bit underwhelmed by other items, i was overwhelmed by the wings. the pickles and mustard were also good. i will definitely go back to this place, but next time it's strictly wings, fries, baked beans, and sweet tea (which was good as well).

loved it hated it!. the first time i went to mama's i went with my co-worker for lunch. we had a great time. the food was fantastic and the service was very good. our waitress took care to explain the choices and guided us to the right choices for our tastes. plus the pickles and mustard were terrific and we loved it all. about a month later my husband and i were looking for a dinner spot and i suggested mama's bbq to him. he hated the sticky concrete floors. it's a little annoying to have your shoes stick to the floor. we wanted toorderthe burnt ends and our waitress said they were not available. she suggested another option. my husband ordered it and we had to send it back. i stuck with the grilled cheese and it was very good. my husband didn't like the potato salad. the potatoes were crunchy. i ordered the bread pudding. it might have been good but it was noticably microwaved. it had very cold and very hot spots. i wouldn't recommend it. it might be good right out of the oven though. our waitress was helter skelter. she didn't refill our drinks or check on us at all but hung out at the bar. people came and went that got there after us. we had to ask for our bill and she never came back to cash us out so my husband had to go to the bar cash register to cash out. when she finally came back i asked her about the pickles and she said oh i forgot them. hum. i am pretty sure we won't be going back to the hurstbourne location. location is questionable too for a family style restaurant. i give it three months. adios mama's.

rude.... i stopped by the momma's on hurstbourne on saturday afternoon (8/30) to place a carry-out order. there were two parties in the restaurant (a total of about 6 people). after placing myorderand paying for it, i commented to the waiter: "it's the first saturday of college football and all four tvs are on soccer?" he replied: "we're louisville fans here. we don't care about any of those other games. we're only interested in monday". then he turned and went to the kitchen. he didn't offer to turn a channel on one of the four tvs (three of which no one was watching). he didn't come back out until he brought my food 10-15 minutes later.

maybe he was kidding. maybe he wasn't. one thing he definitely was, though, was rude. your bbq isn't good enough to treat a customer that way. i would hope momma raised you better than that.

new location. several weeks ago i took home anorderof two slabs of ribs and burned ends, our family ate every bit of the ribs and ends, it was really great. saturday evening, we were on hurstbourne ln and decided to try their second location. when we walked in there was a big party of about 12 or 14 using most of the tables right in the middle of the place. we sat in a side booth. they now have beer which you need with ribs. our server arrived shortly thereafter, i asked for a fall cities but that was the only beer they did not have but would next week. i ordered half a slab of pork ribs and my wife went for the half chicken. the server came back a few minutes later and said they were out of ribs and this was at 6:30 so i settled for half a rack of beef ribs. after this, things slowed down a lot. when the meals arrived i asked about the beer, salt, bar be que sauce and napkins, come on this is a bar b que place. the server said, oh, forgot your beer and left to get the beer then brough the salt and other stuff to our table. this is items that should have been on the table from day one. while we were waiting for our food two couples, one in a booth and one at the bar got up and walked out, no service. as there seem to be only two server, i can see why people left. the two ribs of beef were very large with plenty of meat but i would have liked pork ribs. no sure if we will go back to the new location, maybe stick with st. matthews as it is closer to our home. better luck next time as they say.

really good. ok, my wife saw the review in the paper friday and on saturday said why don't you go to that place on bauer ave and get something for dinner tonight. i went there about 3 pm and place myorderand was told they would call me in about 40 minutes when theorderwould be ready. right, they did call in 40 minutes and said come pick up your order. this i did, however, it took them a few minutes to find theorderas the place was busy due to the paper article. i took home a half rack of pork ribs and half of beef ribs plus one pound of pulled pork. you can only get the pulled pork in the pound size. i kept the food in a warm oven until we were ready to eat about 5 pm. the two beef ribs were full of meat, enough for one person, the meat was a bit tough but good. the pork ribs were meaty but a bit burned on the outside, as i like them, but my wife is not crazy for ribs cooked that way. now the pulled pork was outstanding, it had a really come and have some more taste and the sauce that came with it was great. all in all, the trip was worth the money, i was a bit disappointed in only getting two beef ribs but there was plenty of meat on the rib. we had the leftover pulled pork for lunch the next day and it was even better the second day around. the pickles they give us were great, we ate them all. their dinning room has about ten tables and there is seating downstairs so you should not have any trouble getting a seat for dinner. will be back.

have eaten here twice-very pleased with portion sizes.first visit had the pork sandwich with mashed potatoes and coleslaw-all excellent-potatoes were a bit dry.a very good value at 8.00 including the sides.service was good-informal-which was fine.second visit today-had 1/2 rack of pork ribs with greenbeans and mashed potatoes-again the potatoes were a bit dry.the ribs were very tasty-they are a bit charry on the outside-but that is characteristic to the style of bbq-the meat was wonderful and moist-only complaint would be that the sides did not come with the ribs as did with the sandwich-but this leaves it up to you if you want toorderlarger sides.ribs with 2 sides came to $16.00- the sides being the small order-worth the price-reccommend going.also took home 2 pork sliders-good portion as well.the pickles and mustard were really good too and housemade-overall a great meal and will be back.

poor service and disfunction.. on friday april 5th we attempted to dine at this place and the help seemed untrained in customer service and had no organization to what was being done. we finally got a table but then no service. i counted at least 6 pairs or groups leave because they were not greeted and or no service. we left very disappointed. on saturday april13th i called to place a carry-outorderand was told they would not allow me toorderribs as they are on a first come basis. this place is like so many others that have failed not because of the food but service! they do not get it. i have spread the word about this and am not done because they do not deserve to stay in business.
