a wonderful hidden bar in the civic area. a wooden door leads you up to the non descript stairs and your only clue that you’ve arrived is the bigmollyon the tiled floor. another wooden door leads into an amazing looking prohibition style bar. the bar is a stunner and is very old school. with current restrictions it is highly recommended you make a booking so you can visit at a time suitable for you.

the bartenders/mixologists are friendly and helpful. i ordered up at the bar and was offered to make payment then and he brought out my cocktail. i had the london gentleman. it was a very balanced and smooth drink. very easy to drink. a lovely blend of beeswax gin, raspberry sherry, grapefruit & honey cordial. it may be a bit sweet for most people but it was just right for me.

if you can find this place (it’s hidden down a nondescript stairwell, behind a concealed wooden door in the bowels of the city) you will be treated to a true prohibition-style experience and a brilliant display of cocktail making.mollyalso offers meat and cheese boards for the meat and cheese fans among us.

pssttt, mollyis double entendre. it also means mdma. shhh, don't tell anyone.

i thought it was a stupid name for a prohibition style speak easy too. turns out mdma was first created in 1912. so what do i know?

found refuge atmollywhen it started raining heavily on our way to another bar, and we were instantly transported to a 1920s prohibition-era speakeasy. it's a themed bar without the kitsch, and has top shelf whisky and cocktails to delight any one that discovers it!

i came to this cool and somewhat hidden jem the last couple of times i was in the capital. absolutely everything is spot on. from ambience, service, the nibbles that they serve and above all, the amazing selection of drinks. i've enjoyed mymollyvisits and look forward to coming back again, next time i'm in canberra.

i'd like to think this is named for the drug but in all likelihood it probably isn't. however, the bar does aim to be as transportive as amollytrip...when you enter the place it's certainly obvious what they're going for: a dimly lit, small space in the style of jazz age speakeasys. the place certainly has its charms and while i didn't get to try any of the food, their menu certainly did look enticing,

novelty factor = awesome. finally got around to checking outmollyafter having heard about it from a couple of friends. was definitely impressed. there is something awesome about an underground venue, complete with old-style furniture (leather chairs!), a piano (sadly silent while i was there) and very professional staff (including the security). only downsides were a lack of seating (which, considering the relatively early hour, could be interpreted as a sign of molly's popularity) and the absence of ingredients lists on the cocktail menu. people who know their cocktails well would have no trouble, but some (me included) might feel a little lost. saying that -- having to ask questions is a great opportunity to actually engage with the staff.
