the range of dishes is quite limited compared to some other good japanese restaurants in brisbane. there is no atmosphere to talk about. yet quality food and good service make up for it. their japanese breakfast (wknd only) is a lovely alternative to the usual cafe brunch fare around the area

well, let me start with the good stuff: our waitress was very nice!
and... here you go, that was it. :)

i got 2 of their specialty sushi rolls: i can tell you with confidence that the fish (tuna) was not fresh. taste was very mediocre.

my wife got a plate of chicken hibachi: so sorry for the mr. hibashi :) that was anything but chicken, it was some type of frozen, subway chicken... she did not eat most of it, it was not good at all.

same goes for our friends; they were not impressed at all.

we wanted to try this restaurant after seeing the reviews here but that was very disappointing.

some of the best japanese food in brisbane! dined with family and i would highly recommend the crab and soba salad, as well as the mizupaccio and nasu dengaku if you would like something a little bit different. the tasmanian roll sushi and sashimi were absolutely delicious, and the ebi kushi age was tasty as well.

fantastic and authentic japanese food and service!. after visiting japan at the end of february i was craving some delicious and authentic japanese food. brisbane has quite a few japanese restaurants nowadays, but many are stuck in the "deep fry the lot" are of japanese cuisine... so after careful consideration i decided to visit mizu for my birthday this year with 3 friends. i'd booked a table in advance and luckily i did, as it gets very busy at mizu (the restaurant was almost full on a tuesday night) plus it was raining.

we started off with the takoyaki, tofu and nasu dengaku, and the wagyu beef special. all three dishes were fantastic quality and immaculately presented, and we all agreed that the serving size was just right. although i could have quite happily eaten a bowl of takoyaki...

for mains we ordered the seafood tempura, the black cod grilled with miso special, and the beef special. the seafood tempura was deliciously crunchy and well-cooked, and was very similar to a tempura dish we tried whilst enjoying a special kansai dinner in japan. the fish was the most delicious fish dish i've ever had, with its perfectly balanced combination of fish and miso sauce. the fish was also perfectly cooked and was silky to eat.

for dessert we shared a kurogoma cake, which was very reminiscent of some of the japanese sweets we had; that is, they were more of a "savoury sweet" than a sugar explosion. the black sesame flavour was pleasent, although i thought that it did not go well with the umeshu (sweet plum wine, like a muscat).

two of us also indulged in the sake tasting, where for $12 you can try four different types of sake. to finish off our meal we had the traditional green tea.

the layout of the restaurant is quite cosy, and the decor is a modern japanese theme. the seats were comfortable and the tables didn't wobble (a pet peeve of mine). the service was fantastic with all dishes served with a smile. the waitresses were very attentive and knowledgeable, and the service was prompt. be aware that the dishes are not served at the same time, to allow for the table to eat one dish whilst it is at its best.

overall the prices were very reasonable and the bill came to just over $50 per person, including drinks. the only downside was the parking issue that is omnipresent in teneriffe. we will definately be returning!

second time going to mizu and definitely not disappointed! the staff are all friendly and attentive and the food is amazing. the sashimi is so fresh it almost melts in your mouth, the kingfish shioyaki to die for, the tuna steak is the best tuna steak i’ve had in brisbane and my favourite pickles the tsukemono... i could eat bowls of them! very generous portions and all the meals were served quickly. i highly, highly recommend you come and try mizu at least once! make sure to book ahead as it can get busy especially on the weekends.

fresh and friendly. mizu is a great little place for a casual dinner. it's not cheap or expensive and is quintessentially japanese, from the staff to the food to the atmosphere.

the atmosphere can vary from quiet to buzzy but is still refined. i would definitely recommend it for your japanese fix.

best sushi in north raleigh and arguably in the triangle. prices are fair when compared to other top shelf sushi places. the danger roll and trainwreck are personal favorites.

mizu is a barely average japanese restaurant. the prices are very high and there is nothing really that good about it.

if you are looking for standard japanese i believe there are better options out there. i will say however, the service is pretty good which is why i gave it 2 stars and not 1.

the menu looks a little tired to match the decor.

the food is outstanding. we had the sashimi - so good we got another plate, ebi kushi age, tori kabocha salad, miso, yaki onigiri and the teriyaki chicken skewers (the special). the last time we had sashimi this good was in japan. definitely going back

dumplings galore! image courtesy of broadsheet.com.au ever since tom and i returned from hong kong we have become obsessed with dumplings. chinese, japanese..we aren’t choosy and with the recent explosion of dumpling restaurants around brisbane we are clearly not the only ones! so i’ve compiled a list of brisbane’s best joints to grab yourself a gyoza. happy little dumplings with multiple locations around brisbane, happy little dumplings have you covered with a range of gourmet and vegetarian dumpling options, vietnamese rolls and steamed buns. i normally hit up the barracks location (why leave your suburb if you don’t have to) and the service is always quick and friendly. the chinese chilli duck dumplings are to die for and you can follow up your dinner with a scrumptious mango pancake. can you say yummo! brunswick social cocktails, beer and wine? check. dumplings for all occasions? yup. a an utterly adorable resident pooch called mr chow? why of course! brunswick social is one of bri

i meant to visit this japanese restaurant for a while. not until hosokawa san came to my workplace telling me that he started to work as the master of the work team of the restaurant, i told him that i would be there very soon.
took the new year eve opportunity and booked a table for celebration.
we arrived around 06:00pm and there were already many tables being occupied.
they led us to the designated table at the corner, which provided us very good privacy. after we perused the menu, we then started our food journey.
first came the large sashimi platter. needless to say, the thick cut sashimi totally satisfied my palate. all of the sudden, hosokawa san brought us a plate of nigiri on the house. it was a good surprise to us. toro on the nigiri was very fresh and yummy😋.
another surprise was the jumbo gyoza. pastry was thin and crispy and the fillings were very juicy.
we were lucky to have the last order of black cod of the year because the restaurant would be closing ten days for new year holiday. the black cod texture was bouncing and refreshing.
the other dish of duck breast was not bad at all; however we still prefer to have it done in french cuisine. it was just a personal choice.
