average. don't be fooled by all the positive reviews, thisplaceis nothing special. i had the miso, spicy tuna roll, alaska roll, and chicken teriyaki. all were mediocre quality. however, thisplacehas a quaint modern atmosphere which when augmented by the great service and low prices makes meiji a great location for a romantic night out, as long as your date isn't a sushi connoisseur. feel like i should mention that there was a sign requesting positive reviews on urbanspoon in the front of the restaurant since the reason i tried meiji in the firstplacewas the online reviews. i wonder how many urbanspoon accounts the owner has....all in all a good experience

first time sushi delicious!. i admit i haven't tried sushi around the world because this is the first time i've had sushi and it was wonderful. i have been in so many places where you can smell the fish when you walk in and i have generally avoided eating fish anyplacebecause it just smelled awful to me. this was delicious and their miso soup was great. i recommend them!

i am very, very sorry to give a bad review of my only, my favorite japanese restaurant in fayetteville, arkansas. my husband and i have been going to meiji for years. we always order the same, because it is the onlyplacewhere you can get piping hot, delicious miso soup, a salad with the traditional japanese dressing, and the freshest fish for sashimi, nigiri, or rolls. this time, i took my husband there for his birthday. the whole experience was sub-par and very, very disappointing. the waiting time for someone to come to our table was unacceptable. my husband ordered hot sake, and it came out about 20 minutes after and only after reminding the waitress, and it was not as hot as it should be. the soup and the salad were brought at the same time, which should not happen either. if there is something the japanese are good at, it is tradition. that is not the tradition. when after a long, long wait our food was brought out, the order was wrong. my husband had ordered vegetable tempura, and they brought him some fried shrimp roll. then, the portions of sashimi were much smaller than usual, and the salmon had not been skinned properly. on top of it all, the rice for the nigiri and the rolls was not fresh. that is unacceptable. i mentioned this to the waitress. she kindly reported it to the owner, who came out to our table and listened to us. his solution: do you want anything else? no, we did not want anything else. we wanted some understanding and recognition that my husband's birthday dinner had been awful. i thought the owner would say, "your husband's dinner is on us," but he didn't say that, so we paid full price plus tip for a very sub-par meal. meiji, i know we are picky about food, but i lived in japan for two years. the meal i ate at meiji was not acceptable by japanese standards, even in fayetteville, arkansas.

this is what happens when you have really good food with really bad service. i have been repeat customer for a while and the service has gotten worse with every visit. and my last trip made me no longer a customer. we sat in the lounge where we had to wait 15 minutes for our waitress to say she'll be with us soon( i won't say her name because she may have been having a really off night. i will say it rhymed with katie). after however long it took for to come back and get our order the bartender in the lounge starts losing his sh*t. he's throwing bar glasses on the ground, repeatedly slamming the cooler door, talking to customers about how the boss hasn't paid him and hes going to lose it. the lady next to us was begging he husband to leave because she felt the bartender wasn't to fond of her and her husband. i guess they knew the owner don't know don't care. i looked around at one point while he was telling the customers how badly he should "f*ck thisplaceup" and there was no one other staff to be found. maybe they were all out back talking about how no one is doing anything about the bartender is losing his sh*t and how great it must be to not work for tips. i can't imagine that my waitress gets paid it tips at this point from how bad of a job she's doing. maybe it because the other guy was being an ass and she didn't want to check her sections anymore? who knows? who cares? i did tip her though. very well too. with the note lol lamo. i figured she would need the money because thisplacemust be closing down. but when i drove by yesterday and saw it was still opened i decided to write this review.

when your employee's are breaking glass were people are eating and drinking and turning your restaurant into a shit hole something needs to be done immediately. i was blown away that she even brought us a check. in all the restaurants i've ever worked, if this would have gone on, i would apologize and tell them its on us for ruining your dinner. its not like we were able to get refills on anything! i would give you a zero score if i hadn't been there before when it was nice, and if the chefs hadn't did an great job making or order. whats the point of having that nice decor and the sweet projectors playing anime and godzilla movies if you are going to hire trash to work there.

before all this was my favorite play to get sushi , go on dates, chill and drink sake but now i haven't gone back in a few months don't know if i ever will.

not impressed.. i'm a big sushi person. i've had all kinds of sushi everywhere. i read so many good reviews about thisplaceand had high expectations. my boyfriend and i went there for dinner. the atmosphere was chill. but it was too dark lit for me. the waiter we had was good. we ordered sushi and i also ordered salmon teriyaki. the sushi was good but it was small looking compared to other ones i've had before. the salmon teriyaki was delicious as well but it was smaller portion than what i'm used to when i order the same dish any where else. i thought the sushi and food was going to be top notch but it wasn't to me. iplaceit at the same level as any other sushi restaurant i've been too. the prices are super expensive and i expected the quality to be at that level and it wasn't. i could've gone to shogun's or fuji's or even k&j's and received the same type of quality of sushi but paid less for the price. i feel like everyone just raved about how amazing thisplacewas due to the fact that it's expensive and suppose to be a high class restaurant. if you're going to price your food top shelf, i'd expect the quality to be on the same level as well and it wasn't. i'm asian and i expected that the sushi chef would be as well since it is a japanese restaurant but they weren't. if i'm going to a mexican restaurant, i would expect my chef to be mexican too. if i went to vietnamese restaurant, i would expect my chef to be as well. i'm sure a lot of people feel the same way. i'm not impressed by the food here. first and last time going here. not worth the bang like everyone else thinks.

the sushi was okay. it tasted pretty typical, but the rolls were falling apart. our waitress was nice, but didn't offer any suggestions even though it was obvious we'd never been there before. the experience was mostly ruined by the chefs talking loudly about a mistake made by a hostess during a take out order. a manager was called out to deal with the situation, but he also loudly chastised the hostess for her mistake. she accidentally sold a menu item they were out of, and wasn't told it was out until after she'd charged the customer. i later heard the chefs making fun of her (loud enough for her and the entire restaurant to hear) because they'd been out of the item for weeks. ummmm... why have you been out of a menu item for weeks?! get more of the item instead of publicly shaming your staff for not knowing. i worked in restaurants for years, and the way this hostess was being treated by the manager and staff is enough for me to stay away from this place. expensive "okay" sushi is not worth sitting through a bunch of drama. maybe if the chef had spent more time on my sushi rolls and less time trying to act cool my food wouldn't have been falling apart on my plate (making it almost impossible to eat). sad because thisplaceis so close to home and we were hoping to become regulars.

best sushi in northwest arkansas. meiji is the bestplacefor sushi in northwest arkansas. i am from the west coast and when i brought some family and friends in for dinner one night they thought i was crazy for taking them to sushi in arkansas. they agreed that it is excellent. the fish is fresh and the service is excellent. they also have the best fried rice i have ever had, if you haven't tried it you are missing out. my favorite roll is the daikon roll and you can't go wrong with any of the nigiri

worst sushi in nwa!!!. thisplaceis one of the worst sushi places in northwest arkansas. we waited over an hour for 3 rolls of sushi!! this was after the waiter told us that the rush was over and we should get our food fast. i would have hated to see what the rush wait is like. he also forgot to put our appetizer order in, which we thought was the holdup to the whole meal, sadly it was not. the rolls were the worst i have had in awhile. the pieces were about the size of a penny. the worst one was the california roll, it was a joke. i have had a better one at wal-mart. thisplaceis expensive for the quality of sushi. if you are looking for better sushi in nwa, then go up to bentonville and get great sushi in 3/4 of the time at sushi house!

best sushi in fayetteville. finally got to try meji, and now i am confused. we walked up and the line was out the door. it's 7 o'clock, so it was prime time. i am thinking wow, i've heard a lot of good thing, but i wasn't expecting a line out the door. however, we must have all got there at once because there were several tables open. they were out of regular menus, so we were given to go menus. everything seemed to be in complete chaos. our waiter was new and took our drink order, but didn't know the drink list. about ten minutes later another waiter came and took our drink order. almost 25 minutes later we got our drinks and ordered our meal. around 45 minutes later we finally got our meals.

but!

the food is delicious. i got a 3 item box dinner with a salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, and 4 piece nigiri. the sushi was very fresh and the best ive had in fayetteville. the miso soup was amazing, highly highly recommend it. my fiance(a non-sushi eater) ordered the chicken teriyaki, which she raved about. she said it was the best she ever had, so i had to try it. it was delicious. we also got the steamed gyoza, which were good, but not the best.

overall, i'm confused. meji is definitely better than wasabi, but i had high expectations due to reviews and ratings. the food was very good. the staff seemed new, which could explain the service, which was not that good. meji is the best sushi i've had in fayetteville, but not in nwa. sushi house in bentonville is the best sushi in nwa. i feel like a salesman, but gd thisplaceknows how to do it. i have been to sushi bars in honolulu and la, but this tiny hole in the wall in walmart, usa is the best sushi bar i have ever eaten at. quality fish, fast service, and awesome environment takes sushi house above the rest. if your in fayetteville, then meji is a good bet, but if you are in the rogers/bentonville area go to sushi house.
