delicious food, service can be spotty. i have been tomeijifor work lunches and dinners with my husband. the last few times we've been for dinner, it has been on the weekend and the food has been excellent. i don't know if they've generally improved their food quality or if the weekend is just the best time to eat there. it wasn't bad before...it's just amazing now! and always try at least one of the fish they have gotten in special-yum! we were there just this last saturday, and our waitress was great. unfortunately, i've had a few instances of waitresses that were not so happy to be helping me. other than that, our only complaint is that the special rolls menu is very jalapeno-heavy.

average. don't be fooled by all the positive reviews, this place is nothing special. i had the miso, spicy tuna roll, alaska roll, and chicken teriyaki. all were mediocre quality. however, this place has a quaint modern atmosphere which when augmented by the great service and low prices makesmeijia great location for a romantic night out, as long as your date isn't a sushi connoisseur. feel like i should mention that there was a sign requesting positive reviews on urbanspoon in the front of the restaurant since the reason i triedmeijiin the first place was the online reviews. i wonder how many urbanspoon accounts the owner has....all in all a good experience

i am very, very sorry to give a bad review of my only, my favorite japanese restaurant in fayetteville, arkansas. my husband and i have been going tomeijifor years. we always order the same, because it is the only place where you can get piping hot, delicious miso soup, a salad with the traditional japanese dressing, and the freshest fish for sashimi, nigiri, or rolls. this time, i took my husband there for his birthday. the whole experience was sub-par and very, very disappointing. the waiting time for someone to come to our table was unacceptable. my husband ordered hot sake, and it came out about 20 minutes after and only after reminding the waitress, and it was not as hot as it should be. the soup and the salad were brought at the same time, which should not happen either. if there is something the japanese are good at, it is tradition. that is not the tradition. when after a long, long wait our food was brought out, the order was wrong. my husband had ordered vegetable tempura, and they brought him some fried shrimp roll. then, the portions of sashimi were much smaller than usual, and the salmon had not been skinned properly. on top of it all, the rice for the nigiri and the rolls was not fresh. that is unacceptable. i mentioned this to the waitress. she kindly reported it to the owner, who came out to our table and listened to us. his solution: do you want anything else? no, we did not want anything else. we wanted some understanding and recognition that my husband's birthday dinner had been awful. i thought the owner would say, "your husband's dinner is on us," but he didn't say that, so we paid full price plus tip for a very sub-par meal. meiji, i know we are picky about food, but i lived in japan for two years. the meal i ate atmeijiwas not acceptable by japanese standards, even in fayetteville, arkansas.

deliciousness!. upon my return from singapore, i craved a big bowl of real ramen and this brought me to meiji. since then, my fiance and i return regularly for ramen and other innovative fusion dishes. i am from the san francisco bay area and have traveled extensively in s.e. asia. i am not a huge fan of sashimi but love assorted sushi rolls. below are my favoritemeijiofferings:
pork nama ramen- i appreciate the rich broth and local veggies this ramen is comprised of. the chashu (braised pork) tantalizes my taste buds with soy and ginger. the noodles are the thinner ones; which i prefer.
spicy miso ramen- the kick of spice definitely warms me up and i love the lighter broth.
softshell crab tacos with shishito peppers and guacamole- 3 little tacos that were scrumptious.
fried rice is the best i've had in arkansas. the pieces of veggie are fresh and flavorful.
specialty rolls are lovely esp. bravo white, coral, and spider
char-grilled shishito peppers-slightly spicy char-grilled veggie deliciousness!
the fried apple dumplings for dessert are intensely decadent and good to share

my new favorite restaurant. had lunch atmeijiyesterday and loved it! this was my 5th or 6th time to eat there, and i have yet to order anything that wasn't fantastic.meijifinally got me eating sushi (something i swore i wouldn't do) and there is no better sushi in nw ark than meiji. they make their sushi to order, so it may take a bit longer to get your order, if they are busy, but the quality is second to none in nw ark. have also had their teriyaki steak & chicken which are wonderful (and you can get everything on menu gluten free). bento boxes are a lot of food for very reasonable money, and you have to try their sorbets for dessert. i have recommendedmeijito all my friends and most are now eating there as well. if you haven't been yet, don't wait. you won't be sorry.

what happened??. the first time i experiencedmeijii fell in love. the place was tiny but the service & food were mind blowing. since the expansion quality of both have fallen. tonight our dinner was honestly compared to the sushi you buy at harps pre-made. i'm honestly sad by how much i had talked about this place up to what we were served. sorry, won't be returning.

good food!. we went tomeijifor lunch with a group. it was a very pleasant experience, and the waitress did a very good job of getting everything for everybody and being attentive to detail. i ordered the bento box with 2 items, nigiri and maki, and the fried rice ($11). the bento with a salad with the traditional japanese dressing (very good), edamame, thinly sliced cucumber and zucchini, 4 pieces of nigiri, at least 8 pieces of maki. and a generous portion of fried rice. much more than i usually eat for lunch, for a very reasonable price. the fish was of excellent quality, and the rolls were very fresh and delicious. they were worth the wait. the pickled ginger was wonderful. i will definitely go again!

food great, service ruined it. recently went tomeijiafter seeing rave reviews about this place. the food is great, however, the service we got deserves zero stars. there were several things that went wrong, like waitress knocking over and breaking the vase, spilling used soy sauce on our table, not replacing napkins and silverware that were taken after broken vase, forgetting our miso soup and then giving us a look like we were trying to get another order of miso soup when we originally didnt get it, and a general lack of providing a pleasant meal experience until the very end of the meal when it was time for the check. having the food come out late is fine, the wait was worth it. however, the quality of service didnt match the quality of the food.

i love meiji! well worth the wait for such great quality sushi rolls. the owner takes such pride in his food and for good reason. i would come here more often if it wasn't for the price. a little hard on the wallet compared to other sushi restaurants i like, too. hubby and i would love to go tonight, but kobe is more reasonably priced for us. we savemeijifor special occasions.

customer reviews. at meiji, we appreciate and encourage feedback from our guests. while i am pleased that so many of you have taken the time to post positive reviews, i hate to see that some of you have been disappointed by the time that it takes for your meals to be prepared.
meiji is not the quickest restaurant in town, and i’d like to explain why. many japanese restaurants will prepare rolls at the beginning of the day so that hours later they can be quickly topped, garnished, and served. from the start, meijihas served only premium fish, house-made sauces, and every roll made to order—never stored. sometimes that means a longer wait, especially during peak dinner hours, but i’m not willing to sacrifice quality for quick service. if you are in a hurry, please let your server know, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you and to suggest menu items that can be served more quickly.
even though we aim for perfection, mistakes do happen, and i hope that you will let me or my staff know when you are disappointed—we’ll do our best to make it right. contact me directly at: 479 521 5919

by far our favorite. we discoveredmeijithanks to urbanspoon last year when they were still a tiny little restaurant. now they have expanded, andmeijiis still by far our favorite restaurant in nwa. amazingly consistent food, great drinks, and a wonderful staff. we have gone so many times, they know our orders! chris is excellent; he is always on top of everything. green goddess and spider rolls are to die for. had a pretty big mishap a few visits ago, but they were so nice about the whole thing that we went back two weeks later. gm is great; good to see him actually running the food. definitely recommended!!

love this place!!!. i've been tomeijimultiple times and have never been disappointed. the service is great, the atmosphere is cool (love the old japanese movies playing via projector), and the food is delicious! their sushi is some of the best i've had (i've tried the california, shrimp tempura, salmon, tuna, daikon, green goddess, caterpillar, and spicy tuna rolls plus the nigiri - all fantastic), and i've loved every menu item i've tried, including their salmon and chicken teriyakis, fried rice, gyoza, plum sorbet, etc... i love that they were able to expand their dining area. actually, i love that they had to expand because hopefully, that means they'll be staying for a long while.

i went with my sister and my husband on friday night and had a great dining experience there. i ordered the bento box with a california roll and salmon teriyaki. when the waiter brought out my meal, it had a salmon roll instead of the teriyaki. i brought this to his attention (wasn't mad at all), and he was very apologetic. he said he would fix it right away and told me that we could just keep the salmon roll as an extra. when he brought out the salmon teriyaki, he also brought out some grilled vegetables as another extra item to placate us for his mistake (again, we weren't mad at all). the manager apologized multiple times to me for the mistake, even gave me a pat on the back as we went out the door. i just think this is a sign of great service. everyone makes mistakes, and this is the first one i've encountered at meiji. it's probably good to note that this was our waiter's first week on the job, so he probably wasn't used to how busy or loud it was. he was great, even with the one mistep. i was impressed with the steps they took to make up for this extremely minor issue. i'll continue to go here until it goes out of business (which i hope is never).

best sushi in town.meijiis my new favorite sushi restaurant in fayetteville. it's small and intimate but casual. their fish has been very fresh every time i've eaten there. i get their bento boxes for lunch on occasion and it's a ton of food! for less than $10 you can get 2 rolls, salad or soup, edamame, a heaping serving of steamed rice, and cucumber salad. yum!
