meigas cafe-try something new every time!. meigas cafe in ballarat is a must for everyone visiting ballarat who likes to try interesting, genuine and fabulous european fare with a rustic edge to it. jose and yamelly have created a warm, friendly, comfortable environment in this cosy cafe off the mall. there is always something new on the menu to try and jose clearly takes great delight in watching his customers' reactions to any new dish he trials.

the best thing about meigas' food is that is always made up of the freshest ingredients, which are usually locally produced (you can see, smell and taste how fresh they are)..... so even the simplest dishes are full of authentic flavours, colours and aromas. jose has a talent for making foods that you might normally not try very easy to enjoy, such as kangaroo, crocodile, black/white pudding or octopus. of course, there are plenty of more 'traditional' dishes including tortillas, chorizo, tapas and the incredible seafood paella..... or even just a sandwich! they're all good,

since i discovered this little cafe a few months ago, my partner and i have become regulars. the food is brilliant, the specials board always has something new to try, jose and yamelly always welcome us by name and spend time explaining the menu (including how to eat different dishes) and in terms of the prices, servings are generous and extremely good value for money!

for us, meigas is an easy choice when we feel like a satisfying meal, good company and a genuine, down-to-earth, easy dining experience. we're even prepared to drive an hour from melbourne to eat there!

if you're looking for an authentic, traditional, interesting and satisfyingspanishfood experience, you really need to give it a go. unless you just want manufactured french fries. then you should go somewhere else.

what can i say? i love this great cafe/restaurant. it has authenticspanish(not to be confused with mexican-spanish) food. don't be afraid to try the specials... they often blow us away with their deliciousness!! the staff are lovely people and the decor is equally welcoming. don't be afraid to book: especially in the evening. another great contribution to the growing 'world' food scene in ballarat. love it.

this is probably one of the bestspanishfood we have ever had! we had the garlic prawns, sautéed mushroom, fried eggplants and fried calamari from the tapas menu, as well as a paella for 2 to share among the 4 of us. the ingredients are fresh (especially the seafood!), flavors are authentic and vibrant! staffs and chefs are very friendly and welcoming, we even had extra treats from the chef! we will definitely come back in the future!

one night in ballarat and were recommended this place. weren't disappointed everything was genuinespanishand the place was buzzing on a tuesday night. went with a selection of small tapas to share, white anchovies were gr8 l, small cheese plate included a reasonable manchego and the sauted mushrooms substantial. the calimari was a bit oily for crumbed but overall decor, service and food would get us back.

my partner and i and some friends from sydney went here for the first time today. the. food. was. fantastic. no other way to put it. this is the bestspanishfood i've had in australia.  everything here was great.  jose the chef really knows hisspanishand regional galician food and organised a selection of courses for us to share - from bread with tomato through to jamon serrano, 3 types of salami, cheeses, potato, peppers, croquettes, clams, calamari, prawns, sardines, beef, octopus finishing with churros. they were very generous and we are so full we don't need dinner and may not need to eat tomorrow. everything was perfect and very reasonably priced. the consistency of the croquettes and churros was perfect, and the seafood and meat simply to die for. we will very definitely be coming back! in the meantime we bought some salami, cheese and quince paste to tide us over until our next visit. the ballarat locals are fortunate indeed to have meigas, and it's definitely worth a day trip from melbourne to sample their delights.

we found this gem on zomato and drove for an hour. so glad to find this restaurant, even though it's a little far from melbourne. they serve the bestspanishfood and offers great service. the food is just on point and there aren't too expensive at all. my favourite dish was the sizzling prawns - it was outstanding.

what a lovely tapas restaurant in ballarat! we almost missed this place after visiting it's old address if it wasn't for the new address pasted on the window!

we came just for the tapas on a thursday night and the place was busy with a nice buzz. the decor inside are is tastefully decorated with exposed plasters, old pictures and meat hanging above the bar resembling tapas bars in spain. i liked the bar and the bench by the window which is great for a lingering drink or somespanishdesert.

the waiters were friendly and kept checking up on us throughout the night to ensure we were looked after.

we ordered 6 tapas between the two of us and it was enough. the highlight for me are the octopus which was lightly grilled and delicious with the accompanied sauce, the slice beef tongue with the cream cheese was absolutely mouth watering, the potato crochet had mash monkfish inside. the rest were great including the slice chorizo, spanishmeatball and the lightly fried slice egg plant. only comment there is the sauce drizzle on the egg plant was a bit thick.

all in all a great find in this town and we will be back!
