mechanics' institute bar

impressed would be an understatement .. admittedly it was lunchtime tuesday, but what a complete breathe of fresh air .. perth to often presents unfriendly, bad service with exorbitant prices. the mechanics was that good, it was worth logging onto urbanurban spoon to validate and show my appreciation ..burgerswere stupidly good, staff were friendly accommodating and although a little geeky, completely delightful, who ever owns this joint, you have a great recipe for success, thanks for a great experience

burgers from downstairs at flipside are always nice, though not exactly the bestburgersin town. but the convenience in this otherwise great bar makes everything more delicious.
i particularly love their fresh pressed cloudy apple juice with a shot of whatever spirit type you like. my favorite is a dark rum

what a great little bar hidden away in northridge. friendly atmosphere and good service. as it was a nice sunny day we sat outside on the decking / terrace. drinks are reasonably priced and food which is mainlyburgersis really good with an adequate selection to choose from. all in all a little gem of a place.

when you wake up on a sunday morning, bleary eyed and wishing for a new head/liver/body, what is the first thing you think of? mechanics. at midday they open their doors and allow the cretins of perth, such as yourself, to crawl into this amazing little space that they have created, with people like you in mind. feeling super hung over? sit outside and get some sunshine and air with friends. sunlight intolerant hungover? stay inside in a dark corner by yourself and wonder in awe at the decorations surrounding you (did that bird just move?).
once you've settled in, order yourself a classic beef burger and regular chips from the amazing bar (which comes directly from downstairs, flipsideburgers- the jam to this sandwich), order a bloody mary (super or normal, they do both) and hole yourself in one of their corners. 
be ready to experience amazingly friendly bar staff who always have smiles on their faces, a welcoming atmosphere filled with perth-ians who are also friendly and to top it all off, a cure for that almighty hangover that you cursed upon yourself... 
now where is the tequila?

hidden up an alley way, you can hear the buzz even before you see it. it is up the stairs on the terrace. they don't do food but you can order flipsideburgersand they will bring it to you. basically noisy little communal bar with heaps of character! they haven't won best small bar awards for nothing!!

this small bar place is great for after work drinks. great range of burgers. yum. would definitely come back with friends forburgersand beers.

this is the third time i've been here, and i'd go back again. the place has a great vibe, the staff are friendly and theburgersare good (but not great). the dining area has room for larger groups, but also some nooks and crannies for parties of 2 or 3. today we had the kenny burger and the qvb burger, with chips and aioli. the kenny burger used a homemade veg patty - tick! the flavours were definitely there and i enjoyed it, but to be honest i do stop and think of better. saying that, it was really fresh, with lots of salad, i did feel like i was eating something good for me. my friend enjoyed his burger, which included lots of bacon and egg, with a thick patty. his only gripe was that the beef patty was a little dry. the potion sizes were generous and we were glad we opted to share the chips. chips were crunchy and yum.

great vibe, great music, fun staff andburgersfrom flipside. add in a rooftop and you have a winner.

i love the vibe here. it's particularly nice for summer evenings because of the nice alfresco area. it's pretty cozy though so i probably wouldn't try to rock up too late with a big crowd. the flipsideburgersare amazing! i love both the 'red hot beef' one and the 'chilli-ander chicken' and the cops are pretty good too.

this place used to be my favourite cocktail place in perth until i visited another one down the road, however still the best option closest to the city. last i was there, smoking was permitted in all the outside area, which is awful, as the inside is very small. cool eclectic music played and generally nice ambience. i haven't tried the food option but sounds like a great idea to be able to order yourburgersfrom next door and have them brought up.

excellent venue, awesome vibes and great service! love that you can order flipsideburgersand dined at the bar. highly recommended small bar.

went here for lunch when it was nice & quiet, and there was only 1 customer/bartender's mate at the bar. the bar tender was fantastic, when you didn't have to wait for what felt like a personal conversation to finish. nice building conversion, great decor & escape from northbridge.burgersfrom flip side are nice but $10 for a schooner?! overall, happy i checked it out but won't make an effort to go back - a tad over rated compared to other small bars around (e.g. swallow in maylands) that just do it so much better.

in case you weren’t aware, the mechanics institute is having their 2nd birthday bash this sunday (the 31st of august) from 12pm onwards. if you’re already familiar with the place then you’ll know that they’re one of perth’s coolest and best hidden laneway bars that serves up awesome drinks and flipsideburgersto the happenin’ northbridge set. if you haven’t been there yet, then what better way to get to know them as they enter their terrible twos? to help the celebrations along they’ll be bringing back their epic bloody marys for one day. for the uninitiated of you out there, these just happen to be giant bloody mary with a whole cheeseburger slider as a garnish. perfect for celebrating a birthday or getting over an equally epic hangover, either way i know what i’ll be eating/drinking come sunday! the epic bloody mary: one hellava beverage/meal.
