will never gobackto this place! the bouncer was rude, the drinks are so average and the customer service is horrible. my friends and i were abused and sworn at by one of the bartenders which caused us to leave. definitely would recommend never setting foot in this place!

great cozy bar tucked away down abackalley in northbridge. stopped in to see what craft beer was on the menu. outstanding! quite surprised with the selection.

no. definitely no. at first we were charmed by the place, access is vía abackdoor and it's a chilled rooftop bar, the view is not amazing, but the set up is friendly. the problem lies in their staff. we had to face and endure the banter of their bartender on my friend's birthday, getting his judgment for what she has done or not done in her life and not stopping when telling him he has to. really disappointing, he took himself for a smart as hipster and he was just really rude and couldn't even make a decent drink. that's really sad that the behavior of that guy not only ruined our night but also the reputation of the place as it apparently happened to one of our co worker too.

this small bar place is great for after work drinks. great range of burgers. yum. would definitely comebackwith friends for burgers and beers.

this is the third time i've been here, and i'd gobackagain. the place has a great vibe, the staff are friendly and the burgers are good (but not great). the dining area has room for larger groups, but also some nooks and crannies for parties of 2 or 3. today we had the kenny burger and the qvb burger, with chips and aioli. the kenny burger used a homemade veg patty - tick! the flavours were definitely there and i enjoyed it, but to be honest i do stop and think of better. saying that, it was really fresh, with lots of salad, i did feel like i was eating something good for me. my friend enjoyed his burger, which included lots of bacon and egg, with a thick patty. his only gripe was that the beef patty was a little dry. the potion sizes were generous and we were glad we opted to share the chips. chips were crunchy and yum.

cool vibe and location. that unfortunately is where the positives end. the drinks menu is boring. they have only two beers on tap. no ciders. no shots. basic cocktails. and the service! our friend accidentally spilt a glass of ice on the floor and the bar tender yelled at us in front of all the other patrons and then made us clean it up while he verbally abused us. will not be goingbackagain.

fav place in the city for a drink. the bartenders know what they're doing and have yet to disappoint.. laidbackatmosphere for catching up with people. if you get nibbly you can order a delicious flipside burger to brought up.

went here for lunch when it was nice & quiet, and there was only 1 customer/bartender's mate at the bar. the bar tender was fantastic, when you didn't have to wait for what felt like a personal conversation to finish. nice building conversion, great decor & escape from northbridge. burgers from flip side are nice but $10 for a schooner?! overall, happy i checked it out but won't make an effort to goback- a tad over rated compared to other small bars around (e.g. swallow in maylands) that just do it so much better.

in case you weren’t aware, the mechanics institute is having their 2nd birthday bash this sunday (the 31st of august) from 12pm onwards. if you’re already familiar with the place then you’ll know that they’re one of perth’s coolest and best hidden laneway bars that serves up awesome drinks and flipside burgers to the happenin’ northbridge set. if you haven’t been there yet, then what better way to get to know them as they enter their terrible twos? to help the celebrations along they’ll be bringingbacktheir epic bloody marys for one day. for the uninitiated of you out there, these just happen to be giant bloody mary with a whole cheeseburger slider as a garnish. perfect for celebrating a birthday or getting over an equally epic hangover, either way i know what i’ll be eating/drinking come sunday! the epic bloody mary: one hellava beverage/meal. the bar staff excel in inattention when it comes to taking drink orders, especially when it's a drink that doesn't meet their expectations. when asked to remake a drink, they blame the customer even though they were more engrossed in conversation with a mate during drink preparation.

this is also a smoking bar. consider everywhere that is outside, a smoker's paradise. there's no non-smoking section and that's including the area immediately outside the door area.

absolutely the rudest most arrogant staff i have ever encountered anywhere in the service industry. totally disgusting behaviour. it was like asking a teenage boy in a bad mood to clean his room.

wholly a bad attitude in general, especially the fact that people seem to be allowed to smoke. it is illegal in wa to do it in any pub bar or restaurant, even for 10 meters from the entrance.

i bought my friends cocktails ($52 for 3) and water for myself, as designated driver. the bartender repeatedly ridiculed my request for water. focusing on how 'cheap' i was because tap water is free (by law).

their cocktail menu behind the bar was badly written and vague. my friend asked the bartender to explain what was in one of the made up cocktails. he made fun of her for having to ask, she was nearly in tears.

if you want to feel like yourbackin highs school with rude arrogant bully's, then go here.

also it's annoying that this places promotes its vegan friendly food (that cones from the burger bar downstairs) when only two variations of one item (if you exclude half the toppings) is vegan.

i hope the management changes, they give the staff new directives to not be a-holes and they stop letting people smoke!!

cigarette breaks. had a few quiet drinks here last night... the place had a great vibe and atmosphere but didn't particularly enjoy watching the manager on duty step out into the crowd for cigarette breaks every 20 minutes. we made our way through the wine list but ensured we wentbackto one certain bartender for every purchase as he was the only helpful and welcoming person behind the bar.

first visit. i visited the mechanics institute for the first time last night and walked away with a new favourite drink called a right hand. i’ve just movedbackfrom sydney and was happy to stumble across this place. i like that the bar was quiet enough that we were able to talk to the bar staff, both of which knew what they were talking about and taught me something new. i will be back.

good place for a burger n chips with a couple of different aussie beers on offer. friendly staff and great atmosphere in the afternoon sun. will bebackfor sure.

urban, grungy, warehouse feel with scaffolding, exposed brick and long plank tables – then inside their bar tenders are renowned for their cocktails. entrance is via abackalley making this northbridge roof top bar feel like you could be in melbourne lane way. best of all, you can order a flipside burger from the bar and it gets delivered to your table. beer is reasonably priced as are cocktails that range from $12 to $17. it’s a busy place and the bar is often two deep on friday evenings. despite the staff shaking and stirring cocktails for eager patrons, the efficient service means you are served quite quickly. a cool place that attracts a mixed age group. i like it.
