ah, marrickville pork roll. well, what is there to say? nothing really, because it's just so good. i've racked my brain countless times in order to figure out just what is it that makes this pork roll the epitome of all pork rolls. is it the extra-crusty bread roll? the pickled daikon radish? the superiority of their meats? or the unobtrusive sauce? is it any of these or all of these factors that distinguishes this roll so far above the rest? and trust me, i've eaten plenty of pork rolls. even hurstville king's hot bread comes a distant second, probably tied with the pork rolls of my childhood (nostalgia counts). sadly for its hurstville counterpart, when it comes to pork rolls, marrickville is the true king of them all.

one of best pork rolls without having to travel all the way to the west (ie. cabramatta). i've noticed that they add fish sauce to their rolls which makes it a little different and super tasty. it's also considerably cheap too.

i decided to try the pork roll here and found it very flavoursome. i have only tried the bahn mi a few times in sydney. it was the best version so far and clearly the flavours were stronger and more memorable.

the roll was a good size but i’m not sure if that accounted for what seemed like a slightly uneven distribution of chilli throughout. i asked for just a little chilli but it ended up being still very hot by my standards and the chilli only started to assert itself almost half-way through the roll and did so quite rapidly. otherwise another slight criticism would be the slightly greasy nature of the meal but it was overall still very tasty.

the price for the roll was more than fair. service at the outlet, best not to talk about service since it’s not really part of the overall equation and it’s a takeaway outlet.

5 dollars for a pork roll! it was fantastic! it's a small takeaway shop around 10 minute walk from the station. portion was big, almost couldn't finish eating. had chilli with it, don't have it if you can't handle spicy because it is hot.

•best pork roll around in the inner city area
•for a mere $5, your roll is filled up to the point you can not shove it in your mouth! talk about value for money!
•occasional lines here and there, but they move quickly as it is a order & takeaway outlet. but definitely worth the wait

a tiny storefront in suburban marrickville. quick. delicious, fresh. everything you can expect in a pork roll and more. $5 can be considered "expensive" for a pork roll in sydney, but it is hella cheap in brisbane, and good quality vietnamese baguettes can be hard to find. if this small shop was in brisbane, i would be a regular. no regrets! i want one right now!

of all the pork roll joints in the world, why did i try this one? well, buzz for one thing, with the clincher being the $5 price tag. up with the best pork rolls that i've had, my bbq pork roll was big and bursting with flavour, freshness and all round goodness.

i don't understand the hype of this place. i love my bahn mi's, but this one had too much going on inside that the flavours weren't of the true pork roll. it was very greasy too. very underwhelmed.

saw their other outlet in ashfield and felt keen to give this one a go. very happy that we did today. there are a few people in front of us but the queue is not as long as hong ha.

ordered their bbq pork bahn mi. the bread is one of the best so far. the shredded carrot is also very fresh but the pickled turnip and bbq pork are the dominant ingredients that makes it a winner of banh mi in sydney.

bottom line: great food. great service. great value.

given the good reviews it has been given i have been left slightly disappointed. i had the pork roll in which the bread roll was stale and tough. the filling of the banh mi was delicious though.

equal best pork roll in sydney (alongside hong ha in mascot). the bread is crusty and fresh, the fillings are tasty and the flavours are in balance

finally i made it to marrickville pork roll! the banh mi was just as good as i thought it would be. :-) the ultra fresh and crusty roll was packed with delicious chicken, pickled carrots, daikon, coriander, fried shallots, pate and mayonnaise but not overstuffed so it didn't fall apart. it tasted just like a banh mi off the streets of vietnam, exploding with flavour. for $5.00 this tasty treat is fantastic value. i'll be back soon!

nb - there's nowhere to sit so you'll have to walk and eat. marrickville pork roll is literally a hole in the wall. but no big deal, just go ca phe sua da hunting!

best bbq pork roll in sydney - their bbq pork roll is phenomenal. a good balance, never too much carrot (which most places do) and fresh, crunchy and fluffy rolls.

not much needs to be said about this famous hole in the wall. the queues that wrap around the street corner every afternoon is ample proof of their success. standard rolls start from $4 and for this bargain price, there is no wonder they have such a cult following.

bread rolls are crisp and flaky and can be a little messy to eat. salad of shredded carrots, coriander, onion, cucumber, daikon, spring onion and chilli adds freshness and complements the different pork elements. this is not a roll for the faint hearted as it is incredibly filling and can usually last me well into the night before i need another feed.

i have had the chicken and bbq pork versions on previous occasions but they fell far short from the popular pork roll. service is fast once the line starts to move as the staff are tuned like a well oiled machine. don't expect any friendly banter though, but let the roll speak for itself.

the 'bbq' pork chunks in a marrickville pork roll banh mi is visually stunning and gives the rolls here extra texture - totally different from the other places where meat comes in fat, flat sheets.

with so much meat and starchy bread, vegetables play a key role in balancing the ingredients. in addition to standard pickled carrots, coriander and chilli, marrickville pork roll distinguish themselves in offering a generous mix of all these vegetables to give their pork rolls extra zest and freshness.

finally, while many pork roll shops try to get away with just salt and pepper and diluted soy or maggi sauce, marrickville pork roll make their own.

a few years ago i did a 6 week pork roll taste test and, for me, marrickville pork roll takes out the prize of the best pork roll in sydney.
