lovely atmosphere, but food dissapoints. during a recent road trip we detoured from i-85 to stop in athens and eat at mama's boy since it had receivedgreatreviews and looked cute. the positive aspects were that it had a really cute atmosphere, the waitstaff were incredibly friendly, and the coffee was good. but sadly the food did not live up to my expectations. the peach french toast were good, but way too sweet, but that said, i still devoured them. but my scrambled eggs - a dish that should be hard to mess up- were inedible; they were so salty and greasy that i really couldn't eat more than a bit. i'm hoping that was a fluke- but it was bad enough that i would not eat there again. a shame really- i was hoping to love them.

will wait for their food. there's something addictive about getting up for breakfast here. i love their jam and butter with my eggs (whichever way i decide to order them any given day). i have seen people devour their famed peach french toast, it's a sight to see. the corned beef potato hash is some of the best i've ever had. the salmon benedict is disgusting.. i mean one of the worst things i could even dream of swallowing (i'm with one of the other reviewers). i've hadgreatlunch.. and they've catered many events i've attended. always order their fresh squeezed juices.. yum!

going back tomorrow. visiting athens this week i found this terrific little place while looking for a late brunch. mama's boy had everything i look for in a local joint... fresh ingredients, made from scrach foods and innovative ways to prepare food. i also like that there are vegan and organic options available as well.

i ordered the salmon benedict and a half order of french toast. the salmon benedict was one of the best things i can remember eating for breakfast. it was unique that it was very similar to eggs benedict except served on a homemade salmon patty instead of an english muffin. it was served with a very good homemade buscuit and a small salad.

the french toast was equally delicious, but i was so full from the salmon benedict that i couldn't finish it. served with fruit, whipped cream and maple syrup, it was agreatfinish to a good breakfast.

the place had a old but cozy feel to it. the staff was very friendly and we didn't have to wait long for the food. i'm looking forward to going back in the morning.

i loveee mama's boy, but only because i'm obsessed with their biscuits and poppy seed butter.

to be honest, the eggs-bacon-sausage things are pretty basic, but throw one of the biscuits in (or the cheese grits), and it's the best breakfast plate in the world.

i usually order the salmon cakes benedict! it's so good, and you can have it as a half order if the price bothers you. it just feels like the right amount of healthy/unhealthy.

be sure to ask for the poppy seed butter. they used to have them out on the table but now you have to ask. (:greatway to start your day.

good food, misleading name. the name mama's boy makes you think of good down-home southern cooking. that is not what this is. the restaurant is more hipster southern but it's really good! parking can be a pain but they have excellent service, greatcoffee, and lots of different options. it's a definite "must try" in my opinion

all aroundgreatexperience! although the wait times are long, the food is worth it. i have been multiple times and always enjoy the unique atmosphere, yummy food, and friendly staff. i also love the 'quote of the day,' that you can grab on your way out. definitely the best breakfast place in athens!

biggest biscuit ever!. never heard of this place. we were driving through athens looking for a place to eat and this place had a huge line out the door. that is always a good sign. since we were in no rush we put our name in and waited 45 minutes. the menu was ecletic. i had a yummy vegetable scramble which came with cheese grits and a biscuit. i am not a biscuit person but it was huge and delicious. there is raspberry jam on the table to smother it (or butter if you are boring). the scrambled eggs were like nothing i have had before. it was extremely tasty. my spouse had the salmon cake with poached eggs. he also was served the mega biscuit. he cleaned off his plate and we were stuffed. it was agreatexperience. the staff were friendly and the place was very clean. we would both be happy to go back when we are in the area..

one of my favorite things about mama's boy is their decor. the dining room is bright and cheerful, with chandeliers and seriously cool wallpaper. the huge windows let plenty of sunshine in, making it just agreatplace to greet the day.

new favorite!. mama's boy wasn't in athens when i was first in school here, but now that i've returned for grad school, i'm happy i found this gem. the atmosphere and the food are top notch and the staff was exceptionally nice and on top of it. southern food forgreatprices and breakfast served during the week at lunch? doesn't get better! my mom's biscuits & gravy are my favorite breakfast and mama's boy is the only place to ever give her famous biscuits & gravy competition!

doesn't need business.. this weekend my wife and i had several friends come in from out of town. in addition my wife's work held a conference that ended saturday afternoon. she recommended mama's boy to several attendees. sunday morning the planning committee for the conference (a party of 10) met for breakfast at mama's boy just like they have done the last 3 years. my friends and i ( a party of 6) went as well. we met at 8:15 and started our breakfast while my wife just has coffee with us until her party arrived at 9. we were sat right away and the host told my wife that due to other large parties ahead of her that they could seat her group outside. this was not a problem, but as the morning progressed our waitress became more and more neglectful of our table. when my wife's party arrived they were seated and service was slow. due to the slow service her party was there a while and while this was not a problem for her party (they were discussing pros and cons from this years conference), the waitress felt that they were taking up too many tables for too long of time and suggested that "a party of that size might want to choose a different restaurant next time". she stated that "sunday brunch was a busy time for them and that they were there too long." this comment was offensive to everyone at the table. i hope the waitress figured this out with the lack of tip left for her. what was so upsetting was that they weren't there so long because of the size of the party but because of the speed, or lack thereof, of service.

it isgreatto know that in this economy that mama's boy is doing so well that they can insult and drive off customers. not just the 10 that were there but hopefully the 100's of others that are part of their social networks that want quality service when visiting athens area establishments.

i've only been there one time for breakfast on sunday. there was a wait. i noticed more than half the house was seated but had either menu or nothing at all in front of them. we waited against my better judgment. the decor felt dark and cramped. the kitchen was visible and cluttered. the hostess desk was cluttered. the wait area was nonexistent. the chandelier was missing parts. the jar glasses mismatched the wallpaper unless shabby chic was the intent. the alternating sheers felt sloppy and a little like sitting in a grandmother's living room. the carpet was dirty. the wait staff seemed impatient. the meals were overpriced for their portion size especially considering these were two egg rather than the conventional albeit more unhealthy three egg portion. the french toast was burned. the eggs arrived cold. the cheesy grits were this restaurant's saving grace. there are other nicer restaurants in thisgreattown.

sunday brunch.greatcoffee and service! ordered the salmon cakes benedict - the poached eggs were overcooked and the salmon patties were dry and one had a small bone inside. will definitely go back, but will not order the same thing!

it's ok. i mean, the food is good, but i just feel like "soul food" shouldn't have to be this fancy. i like the food here... it's just not my favorite place in town. kind of trendy. i feel like some people like it a lot due to it maybe being "their" type of place. i have heard they have agreatsunday brunch... i have not tried it though.
