lovely atmosphere, but food dissapoints. during a recent road trip we detoured from i-85 to stop in athens and eat at mama's boy since it had received great reviews and looked cute. the positive aspects were that it had a really cute atmosphere, the waitstaff were incredibly friendly, and the coffee was good. but sadly the food did not live up to my expectations. the peach french toast were good, but way too sweet, but that said, i still devoured them. but my scrambled eggs - a dish that should be hard to mess up- were inedible; they were so salty and greasy that i really couldn't eat more than a bit. i'm hoping that was a fluke- but it was bad enough that i would not eat there again. a shame really- i was hoping to love them.

better than expected. i expected to get diner food here, but it was a little more creative and well done than that. i had the vegetable potato hash, which has radish and brussels sprouts and poached eggs. very tasty and healthy too. service was good and we only waited like 10 minutes.

will wait for their food. there's something addictive about getting up for breakfast here. i love their jam and butter with my eggs (whichever way i decide to order them any given day). i have seen people devour their famed peach french toast, it's a sight to see. the corned beef potato hash is some of the best i've ever had. the salmon benedict is disgusting.. i mean one of the worst things i could even dream of swallowing (i'm with one of the other reviewers). i've had great lunch.. and they've catered many events i've attended. always order their fresh squeezed juices.. yum!

going back tomorrow. visiting athens this week i found this terrific little place while looking for a late brunch. mama's boy had everything i look for in a local joint... fresh ingredients, made from scrach foods and innovative ways to prepare food. i also like that there are vegan and organic options available as well.

i ordered the salmon benedict and a half order of french toast. the salmon benedict was one of the best things i can remember eating for breakfast. it was unique that it was very similar to eggs benedict except served on a homemade salmon patty instead of an english muffin. it was served with a very good homemade buscuit and a small salad.

the french toast was equally delicious, but i was so full from the salmon benedict that i couldn't finish it. served with fruit, whipped cream and maple syrup, it was a great finish to a good breakfast.

the place had a old but cozy feel to it. the staff was very friendly and we didn't have to wait long for the food. i'm looking forward to going back in the morning.

i still like this joint.... my first experience was terrible, as they delivered my pimento grilled cheese reeking of a fish smell. turned out it was grilled next to my lunch mate's fish and the fish oil must have been on the grill. not liking fish at all, i was pretty turned off, but they were very apologetic and polite about it so i decided to come back.

my next experience sealed the deal. here's my quick tip of the day... go to brunch at mama's boy. sorry for all the caps, but i had to get your attention and i can't slap you on the back of the head through a computer. but boy would their brunch be worth a slap, maybe 2.

go, like, this weekend...that's an order!

we've been twice. the food is pretty good, but we're not sure it quite lives up to the hype. the chicken biscuit was a little disappointing, but the vegetable hash and peach french toast were pretty good. the coffee is also really solid. service is slow and mediocre at best. make sure to ask about the specials, as our servers have forgotten to tell us both times we've been there.

one of our favorite spots in athens! don't go too hungry because you will have a wait. i'm obsessed with the biscuits and the raspberry purée they bring with them. ugh, so delicious. i've never had anything i didn't love. the blt salad is my favorite. you can't go wrong with anything you order. fried green tomatoes are a must try!

i think mama's boy is overrated. but that being said, their food is still pretty good. i've tasted their more traditional dishes, along with salmon cakes benedict and pulled pork & potato hash. i thought it was all pretty good, but not great. their arnold palmer is definitely tasty though and i'd get it in gallon form. i suppose they're the best brunch/breakfast place in athens, but options are pretty limited. it's not worth an hour wait (which is the norm) in my opinion.

we arrived at 11:12 and was told that the wait time would be about 45 min to an hour wait time. no problem it was for a birthday dinner and the birthday woman said she didn't mind waiting. the hour wait time came and went so i went to check hiw much longer it would be. i was then told that it would be about 20 more mins give or take. i was also informed at that time that my name had been marked off by mistake and it was highlighted so she wouldnt skip me. ok we wait 35 more minutes and still no service while bigger parties that came after us were being sat. the hostes simply said they were ahead of you and i dont know if you have ever worked at a restaurant but this is how it works. then the birthday woman went up to see what the deal was and she got the same crap but from a man who seemed like the owner or manager not only did not appologize but stated that he didnt underdtand what we didnt understand about the fact that it isnt our turn. after having to complain about the 1 and 45 min wait at this point we were finally told that there was 2 seats at the bar if we wanted that. we went in reluctantly and sat down with nathan at the bar, whom had a very refreshing attitude after dealing with the jackasses working the hostess stand. we ordered the fried green tomatoes for an appitizer which were very tasteless and the only thing with flavor on that dish was the blue cheese dressing. i ordered the salmon cakes eggs benidict and she ordered the mill house breakfast. the salmon cakes were ok and could have used more seasoning. the mill house breakfast was ok the cheese grits should have been called grits qith cheese. the only good part of the meal were the biskets. the food was boring at best the service before sitting was shit. i will not be returning and recommend that you not waist your time. cook it at home cause it would be much better even if you dont know how to cook.

when the for birthday and there were quite a few people waiting, so we waited for 1 hrs and 45 min after have checked in after an hour and given an estimate of 20 minutes and then having several groups seated, checked in again and my name and been scratched (you know what that means). so i'm inquiring about what was happening how the other groups were being sat (supposed call in!) and groups splitting (all ahead of us). the manager or own or something comes out says what do i not under about it not being my turn and they can only set 46 and so forth. if i head a customer that had been waiting for 1 hrs and 45 min i would have thanked them and let them know how much we appreciated their time and business. food was fine, service inside was fine. want ever plan to return and invite you not too as well.

this has to be the best breakfast in athens. with many options from small plates to huge meals this is defiantly an incredible restaurant. a sweet, family atmosphere makes mornings here wonderful. the wait can be long, but they typically squeeze you in before they say they can. a must try!!

there are few places anywhere in the nation that i love more than mamas boy. the restaurant is about as southern as you can get with an authentic flair to separate it from the typical brunch restaurants.

sweet tea or arnold palmers in a mason jar is the way to start out. nothing on the menu is over $10 so you don't worry about breaking the bank. traditionally i go for their breakfast tacos but this time opted for the salmon benedict.

it was my girlfriend's first time at the establishment and she thoroughly enjoyed it as well. she opted to go with the georgia peach french toast.

from that first sip from the mason jar to that last bite of a peppermint party that comes with your check, mamas boy will not lead you astray.

i loveee mama's boy, but only because i'm obsessed with their biscuits and poppy seed butter.

to be honest, the eggs-bacon-sausage things are pretty basic, but throw one of the biscuits in (or the cheese grits), and it's the best breakfast plate in the world.

i usually order the salmon cakes benedict! it's so good, and you can have it as a half order if the price bothers you. it just feels like the right amount of healthy/unhealthy.

be sure to ask for the poppy seed butter. they used to have them out on the table but now you have to ask. (: great way to start your day.
