lovely atmosphere, butfooddissapoints. during a recent road trip we detoured from i-85 to stop in athens and eat at mama's boy since it had received great reviews and looked cute. the positive aspects were that it had a really cute atmosphere, the waitstaff were incredibly friendly, and the coffee was good. but sadly thefooddid not live up to my expectations. the peach french toast were good, but way too sweet, but that said, i still devoured them. but my scrambled eggs - a dish that should be hard to mess up- were inedible; they were so salty and greasy that i really couldn't eat more than a bit. i'm hoping that was a fluke- but it was bad enough that i would not eat there again. a shame really- i was hoping to love them.

better than expected. i expected to get dinerfoodhere, but it was a little more creative and well done than that. i had the vegetable potato hash, which has radish and brussels sprouts and poached eggs. very tasty and healthy too. service was good and we only waited like 10 minutes.

we've been twice. thefoodis pretty good, but we're not sure it quite lives up to the hype. the chicken biscuit was a little disappointing, but the vegetable hash and peach french toast were pretty good. the coffee is also really solid. service is slow and mediocre at best. make sure to ask about the specials, as our servers have forgotten to tell us both times we've been there.

i think mama's boy is overrated. but that being said, theirfoodis still pretty good. i've tasted their more traditional dishes, along with salmon cakes benedict and pulled pork & potato hash. i thought it was all pretty good, but not great. their arnold palmer is definitely tasty though and i'd get it in gallon form. i suppose they're the best brunch/breakfast place in athens, but options are pretty limited. it's not worth an hour wait (which is the norm) in my opinion.

we arrived at 11:12 and was told that the wait time would be about 45 min to an hour wait time. no problem it was for a birthday dinner and the birthday woman said she didn't mind waiting. the hour wait time came and went so i went to check hiw much longer it would be. i was then told that it would be about 20 more mins give or take. i was also informed at that time that my name had been marked off by mistake and it was highlighted so she wouldnt skip me. ok we wait 35 more minutes and still no service while bigger parties that came after us were being sat. the hostes simply said they were ahead of you and i dont know if you have ever worked at a restaurant but this is how it works. then the birthday woman went up to see what the deal was and she got the same crap but from a man who seemed like the owner or manager not only did not appologize but stated that he didnt underdtand what we didnt understand about the fact that it isnt our turn. after having to complain about the 1 and 45 min wait at this point we were finally told that there was 2 seats at the bar if we wanted that. we went in reluctantly and sat down with nathan at the bar, whom had a very refreshing attitude after dealing with the jackasses working the hostess stand. we ordered the fried green tomatoes for an appitizer which were very tasteless and the only thing with flavor on that dish was the blue cheese dressing. i ordered the salmon cakes eggs benidict and she ordered the mill house breakfast. the salmon cakes were ok and could have used more seasoning. the mill house breakfast was ok the cheese grits should have been called grits qith cheese. the only good part of the meal were the biskets. thefoodwas boring at best the service before sitting was shit. i will not be returning and recommend that you not waist your time. cook it at home cause it would be much better even if you dont know how to cook.

when the for birthday and there were quite a few people waiting, so we waited for 1 hrs and 45 min after have checked in after an hour and given an estimate of 20 minutes and then having several groups seated, checked in again and my name and been scratched (you know what that means). so i'm inquiring about what was happening how the other groups were being sat (supposed call in!) and groups splitting (all ahead of us). the manager or own or something comes out says what do i not under about it not being my turn and they can only set 46 and so forth. if i head a customer that had been waiting for 1 hrs and 45 min i would have thanked them and let them know how much we appreciated their time and business.foodwas fine, service inside was fine. want ever plan to return and invite you not too as well.

i ate at mama’s boy one time while i was a student at the university of georgia.  i went with my girlfriend (now wife) for lunch and our meal was overpriced, the restaurant was nearly empty, and thefoodwasn’t anything special. that was about seven years ago. now, mama’s boy is arguably the most popular restaurant in athens and it’s becoming known as one of the better restaurants in the south, particularly for breakfast. it’s earned recognition from publications like southern living , garden & gun , and even espn in its "taste of the towns" feature as part of its college football coverage. with all this notoriety, we decided to give the give the restaurant a try for breakfast during a recent trip to athens.

if you are a real southerner, avoid this place at all costs. the hippies that run the place try and pass this off as southernfoodand i tell you what, it ain't. long wait for bad food. the mayflower downtown is what you're looking for.

we always take out-of-town friends here.. love this place! consistent, unique, popular, fun... i love the enthusiastic and friendly waitstaff who all seem to display a sense of teamwork. they seem to love the place as much as the diners do.

greatfood- we go early for breakfast (before 8:30) so we don't have to wait -wouldn't be able to handle the wait - would probably eat a customer in the parking lot if we had to wait...

all around great experience! although the wait times are long, thefoodis worth it. i have been multiple times and always enjoy the unique atmosphere, yummy food, and friendly staff. i also love the 'quote of the day,' that you can grab on your way out. definitely the best breakfast place in athens!

the atmosphere is small and quaint, but definitely home-y. the waiters are so friendly and drinks are served in mason jars. and oh boy, oh boy! thefooddid not dissappoint. they have a variety of fluffy biscuit flavors, breakfast specials (um, hello georgia peach french toast!!), coffee drinks, and...get this... chocolate cake for breakfast.

awesome food, place, people. mama's boy is wonderful - thefoodis fresh, delicious and southern (but healthy if not exactly low cal). the people are super. they catered an event for us recently, and did a wonderful job - everyone raved about the fried chicken and biscuits, salad, flank steak, etc. the mac n cheese is to die for. only teensy problem is that it is so popular, it's hard to get in, and only open for breakfast and lunch, and even in weekends, i'm in such a rush to work or get errands done. love it regardless!

this is southernfoodwith panache. i get corned beef hash cravings fairly regularly and this is where i go. it is real cubed corned beef and oh so delicious. biscuits n gravy are sinfully rich. prices are awesome too. thefoodis "fresher" versions of all the dinerfoodyou secretly want to eat but too afraid of premature coronary stoppage. or whatever. it is where we take anyone from out of town for breakfast.

meh.... the few times i've been here, i was far from impressed. dirty drinking glasses, sub-parfoodthat is far from how mama or grandma fixed it... this is one place i wouldn't mind seeing close in athens so something more creative can move in.
