worth the hype (and wait). for two years i've been scolded by friends and loved ones for having not eaten at mama's boy. my defense: i'm not a big fan of purchasing breakfast food. i can cook eggs, bacon, biscuits andfrenchtoast - why pay $8 or $9 for it? well, my girlfriend finally won that battle ... and i'm so glad she did.
from the second you park, it's obvious mama's boy's reputation is far spread. even in 99 degree weather, a line had formed outside, full of hungry college students hoping to get a cold glass of anything in a mason jar - their speciality.
after standing for 15-20 minutes, crammed in the three feet of walk-in space in front of the cash register, we were seated and presented with the brunch menu. wow. not only was i blown away by the options, the prices were completely affordable.
i opted for the half order of georgia peachfrenchtoast, which had powdered sugar, toasted pecans, syrup, and a small side of whipped cream ($3.99). i also opted for a fried chicken biscuit ($4.25). my girlfriend ordered the salmon cakes benedict - two house-made fresh atlantic salmon cakes topped with poached
eggs, fried capers, chive hollandaise, and a biscuit ($9.99).
everything we ordered came out perfect - i couldn't have been more pleased. thefrenchtoast was sweet and soft and complimented the fried chicken and buttered biscuit exceptionally.
will definitely be back soon.
