fantastic!!! great for lunch.. my wife and i dine here about once a month. the tamales here are as good as you'll get. we routinely get the "chicos bueno burrito" but substitute brisket (like shredded beef...but better) for ground beef. it's topped with premium queso, not the watered down stuff you get at other places. the complimentary set-up is nice: a variety of salsas, fresh spicy veggies, tortillia chips, queso, fresh hot tortillas. the view is great if you sit on the climate-controlled patio or get a window seat. i have yet to try the outside dining, as oklahoma weather is a bet finicky. i bet it's great though. theservicehere is quick and friendly. a manager almost always comes by your table to chack on you. i love this place. the best mexican in town. also, try the borracho beans.

worstservicein the city. took me 1.5 hours to get to a table and another 1 hour to get our food. we arrived at 11:15a. the food was pretty good but i'll probably never go back. i don't recommend it. it will die in a year or so.

my date and i arrived at 9:45p.m. it was saturday night so they don't close til 11p.m. i always check the hours when i go out to eat. as a server, i understand how it feels when people disregard your hours
of operation. we had over an hour to eat, which was plenty of time. there wasn't a host at the entry. we were greeted and sat by a server who was very friendly. several minutes later our server came to take our drink order. we were given chips and queso, but no silverware or plates. we had to ask for them. after about 10 minutes our server reappeared and took our order. our food was brought to us by a busser. we decided to share the ultimate dakotas. again, no plates, no napkins, no points ofservicewere touched on at all. i had to get up, go find the server, and tell her what i needed. when she brought the plates she acted as if we were interfering with her evening of chatting with other employees. there was only 1 table in the restaunt other than us. the next time we saw her was when she dropped the check. no offer of desserts, to go boxes or drink refills. my date had to track down a restaurant employee to get boxes. we paid our ticket and left. never saw a manager on the floor and no one offered a thank u or goodbye. i
was unable to find a comment card so as i was walking out i grabbed a piece of paper from the host stand and simply wrote "food was just ok, but theservicesucked."

nice environment, terribleserviceand manager. for mother's day, the family wanted good authentic mexican food and great service. but we did not want to fight the crowds on sunday so we went out to eat on saturday. being new to oklahoma, we notice the nice location of lake hefner and the name mama rojas. look it up on line and chose it. great location and environment set us for what we hoped to be a great experience. the food was okay (fajitas for two), knowing what authentic food is, this fell a little short of expectations for our taste. serveres were confused as whose table we belonged to and we were over charged. $12 for 2 flautas (no rice/beans) just 2 flautas - when the plate was $10 - that didn't make sense. manager came and initially said "that's the way it is" and after brief arguement he decided to say it was our fault for ordering a la carte flautas but he would change the price to $10 for 2 flautas. his attitude was less thanserviceoriented and he really didn't seem to care if we ever returned. i guess when the competition is not there, you can have the luxury of taking this attitude. needless to say, our family will not return and will not recommend this establishment to anyone. this place really needs work when it comes to guestserviceand operational discipline.

my wife and i went here on a friday night with another couple who are friends of ours.  we arrived at 7:30 pm.  the restaurant was busy, but there were enough open tables that we were seated immediately.

the food here is standard tex-mex.  there was nothing exciting or new on the menu.  i ordered beef brisket enchiladas with refried beans and mixed vegetables.  the refried beans were my favorite thing; they were well seasoned with plenty of cumin.  i wish they had not put so much cheese on top because it almost killed the flavor of the beans.  there was also too much cheese on top of the enchiladas.  however, our server brought me more of the tomatillo salsa to help cut through the rich cheese.  it was a nice complement to the beef and the corn tortillas.  the mixed veggies were steamed and included tomatoes, summer squash, and bell peppers.  i added some salt to liven them up because they were only steamed and not seasoned by the kitchen.  i think that makes sense, though, given the fact that they probably serve a wide variety of diet needs at this restaurant.

my wife got the chicken tamales with black beans and mixed veggies.  she thought her black beans were the best part of the meal -- warm, slightly spicy, and well seasoned.  she said that the chicken tamales were bland.  the corn meal was not sweet or salty or anything, there was barely any chicken inside of them, and there was too much cheese on top of the corn husks.

personally, we would rather go to birrieria diaz, cantina bravo, or chelino's to get our tex-mex or mexican food.

ourservicewas quite good.  the hostess and server were both attentive to our needs.  when we first arrived, we were sent to a table right next to a door leading to the patio.  we asked to be seated a little bit farther from the door to avoid drafts of cool air blowing on us while we dined.  our request was granted, and the hostess quickly found a new table for us nearby.

mama roja's is a pricer mexican food option in okc. the atmosphere and the view of the lake are both nice and are what make it worth it. ourserviceis always pretty good. our favorite part is the swirl with a meltdown! their beer selection is disappointing. it's good food and a nice place to stop in if you're by the lake but with hefner grill and red rock as options there too, this place easily gets overlooked.

only my second visit to mama roja.  the first was shortly after they opened.  it was so-so.  on my second visit, the restaurant was again very nice, with a great view of the lake.  theservicewas great.  the manager did come to visit the table.  the food, was just okay, particularly for their pretty high prices for mexican food.  the flautas had an aftertaste that was off, the guacamole had too much lime and the enchiladas just weren't very good.  the exception was the president's margarita - very good and didn't taste like a mix like most places these days.  mama roja is far from my top choice for mexican food.  disappointing.

i have mixed feelings on mama roja. sometimes theserviceis superb, other times it's nonexistent. more specifically, my last visit to mama roja was for a friend's rehearsal dinner in a private room. mama roja was running behind getting it set up and we were actually late, so they had no excuse. yes, i'm punctual, but we were 30+ minutes behind from rehearsal so they had some leeway to get the ball rolling. when we were finally let into the room, it took forever to get drinks. servers had bad attitudes and it was just simpler to go to the bar for a drink. i think i'll just stick to visiting if it's just a couple of people. they are clearly unable to accommodate a large, private group. on the upside, their happy hour is good and i've never been disappointed with the food. plus, the lake view is a nice touch.

every time i've been to mama roja, i have been very disappointed. the food is not good! the margarita was ok. the atmosphere is ok too, but i need more than a good atmosphere and liquor to want to return. i've only returned because for some reason, my in-laws like it. i can't figure it out. theserviceis usually pretty slow as well, but i've always come with a group, so that may be why.

rip-off. went to mama roja's last week and ordered the combination steak and chicken fajitas for two for $26.99. greatly disappointed. barely got enough meat for one person on the plate. i've been to other mexican places and got a lot more meat for one person for a lot less money than what i got for two people at mama roja's. plus the food was not that good and theservicewas terrible. barely even saw our waiter. being by the lake, it was nice scenery, but for good quality mexican food, avoid mama rojas!

the salsa is awful. just awful. how can you have a "mexican" or "tex-mex" restaurant without good salsa? i don't know, but they do. the food is ok. fajita meat is really good, as is the guacamole, but the tortillas aren't.serviceis usually ok as well, but don't sit in the "open air" section unless you want to swat gnats in between each bite! oh, and it takes forever to get drinks from the bar....
