i ordered the chicken picatta with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. the picatta sauce was a little too thick for my taste, but the potatoes tasted like home cooking might, if my mom made good mashed

when thinking of austin cool and legendary, magnolia cafe south tops the list. a 24 hour diner which is consistently good for breakfast, lunch, dinner or late night dining. it’s hard to pick a favorite, but breakfast served all day is hard to beat. try the love migas, along with one of their pancakes, and keep an eye out for celebrities, as the last one seen eating at magnolia was alton brown.

every city needs one like this.. while in austin i was here three times during the week and each was great. ginger pecan pancakes was the breakfast highlight, and the service is super responsive and professional. always crowded but it moves fast and is certainly worth the wait. the menu is very diverse and exciting. every city needs a place like this.

not worth it!!!. this place was awful!!! we were expecting a wait, but it was soooo not worth the wait! we came for breakfast and waited 45 minutes to be seated then another 30 minutes for our food.

i ordered a "fritatta," but what i got didn't even vaguely resemble a fritatta. apparently their definition of a fritatta is a small, bland, folded omelet. not a fluffy baked egg dish like i was expecting. my husband got some breakfast tacos, which were also extremely bland.

on top of that, the service was horrible. the waitress dropped off the food and took off, never coming back to check on us after that. i wanted hot sauce, and my husband got a pancake but was never given syrup. by the time we got the attention of the waitress and got the hot sauce and syrup, the pancake and "fritatta" were both cold.

i really don't see what people love about this place. other than the hip decor and funky ambiance, this place really has nothing going for it in my opinion. i left feeling completely disappointed and unsatisfied and wished i hadn't paid for the food as it wasn't worth paying for. don't bother coming here!

funky, quirky, cool joint serving fabulous food; breakfast, soups and sandwiches are prepared with the freshest ingredients. the service is excellent; the people are ultra-friendly; this place gets packed but is worth the wait; you will enjoy this unique austin treasure! enjoy!

had the eggs benedict. it was good. i didn't like the fact that our server asked if we'd like some fresh avocado with our breakfast and then charged us each $3.00 for a couple of slices of it. some disclosure would have been nice. service was good, though for the most part. our glasses were never empty.

well all i can say is disappointed. we try to come here while visiting my daughter in school and had always had a good experience. however, not this weekend. we had a party of 7, we patiently waited, when i finally asked, the guy at the front he said he forgot to get us. by the time we got to the table, there were several large tables open. and when did it become the norm to serve a large party in waves? half the table received our food and it was more than 10 minutes before the rest of the party was served! how is that right? we understood the whole 17% gratuity thing for large parties, but didn't feel magnolia cafe did their part. sad. we probably won't come back. lots of other food options in austin, no reason to put up with that no matter how "eclectic" a spot.

overall, definitely not the best restaurant to eat at, but would likely be a great place to stop after the bar.
