lupie’s is a great chili restaurant. in fact, i would venture to say that it’s the chilirestaurantin charlotte. what’s great about it is that they have four styles of chili, and according to everyone, they’re all good.

lupie's is a clt icon!. so bummed to see so many bad reviews of lupie's on here. are ya'll yanks, expecting something other than what lupie's really is? as a clt native living in colorado now, i crave lupie's all the time. to name a few things i miss:

1.the server sitting down at my booth (doesn't know me) and giving me some friendly attitude.
2. 'nana pudding.
3. killer cornbread
4. mashed potato/meatloaf monday
5. iced tea that is always just right
6. pintos that melt in your mouth
7. arestaurantof questionable cleanliness- i've never figured out how it passes its health inspection, but that's the character of the place. the cash register area alone is a veritable museum (or used to be, anyway)
8. walking out to the back lot to my car, and peering into a dim-looking kitchen, seeing someone sitting out back on a turned over milkcrate smoking a doobie on their break.

charlotte has so many good restaurants now, you can spend plenty of money on great, expensive food. or, you can get a little slice of clt history with- possibly not the finest meal you'll ever eat- great, cheap food at lupie's. love it for what it is, not what you think it should be!!!!

my lupie's expereince. when i first went to lupies, the food i ordered (chicken wings) was good but the customer service was poor. as for the customer service, someone in their kitchen area saw us come in and held up 2 fingers (which meant 2 people) we nodded yes and then he (without leaving the kitchen area) "pointed" to a table for us to sit at which was near the kitchen. when he finally came to the table he slid some menus at us and became rude after my friend ask would he suggest something on the menu for her because she had not been to therestaurantbefore. he answered her by giving a smart answer which referred that the request suggesting something from the menu was unnecessary. he was cold and appeared distracted as he looked at us with his cap sitting backwards on his head. my friend placed her order (that he finally did suggest) but did not like the food she ordered. she described the meal as plain, no little flavor. she ate the wings from my plate for the rest of our dinning. we recently went back to lupies for the wings because they were the only thing that seemed really good. this time the wings were horrible and a waste of money. we also ordered the chile dish (2 different types) and they both were just as bad. the waitress later came by and asked how the meal was and i said "not good" and she turned her head and walked away--don't ask a question if you don't like the answer. you're pretty much gambling your money because you don't know when the meal may be good or not. because of the chicken wings at the first visit my friend was going to recommend it to her sister, but she has now decided not. she and i have decided that we will not go back nor recommend lupies to others. we did observe how they treated other people, who did not look like us, a whole lot better. whether or not these people were served better tasting food, i don't know, but the service given to them was more pleasant.
