it took me long enough to get here.. i've lived in the clt since 2005. lupie's is one of those classic old school greasy haunts that many a local told me about. finally, after eight years i made it there for dinner. i went with theburgerw/ texas chili all the way and chips. theburgerwas a two fisted beast, my beer was cold, and my chips, well, they were just plain chips. the only downside was they serve no fries. the chili had a nice building heat, but not too hot at all. i need to put this on my lunch rotation.

first time's a charm. from the moment i walked in the front door, the staff was warm and inviting. holly's service was very accommodating from the beginning to the end. as we were first timers, holly did a great job of explaining menu items to my mother and i. when i asked for a cup of coffee, holly quickly brewed a fresh pot for me. the entire meal was delicious and abundant. the vegetarian chili was a huge hit with my mother and the chili slawburgerhit the spot for me as well. all of the positive reviews preceding seemed spot on and i highly recommend for anyone seeking simple tastes from a small southern kitchen. can't wait to return.

pretty good food. i had chick noodle soup and potato salad. both were good, homemade and unique in some fashion. attentive service, but not overly so. weird warehouse-y interior is good for a music venue or dive bar, not my thing for a restaurant. i'm interested to come back for aburgerand revise my review. i'll come back

while in charlotte we had a late night meal at lupie's cafe, a long standing charlotte institution serving up delicious chili in a darkish neighborhood bar-like comfotable atmosphere. unfortnately theburgerwas nowhere near as good as the chili. the patty tasted like it had been frozen and with so many great freshly packedburgerplaces around - no use having a froze one! the veggie plate with mac & cheese, carrots and salad was tasty and hit the spot. next time i'll stick to the chili if i'm going for m

hit or miss. i've only eaten at lupie's a few times, so maybe i give them the benefit of the doubt. they seem to be a little hit or miss though. i ordered the chili, which was tasty, and a generous portion. however, theburgerand chips was nothing to write home about. theburgerwas okay, but the chips were stale.

the atmosphere is very relaxed, the decor is eclectic. very casual, which i have no problem with. i don't need fine dining, just good, fresh food, which didn't seem to be a consistent on my visits.

good comfort food. this local place has character and good home-style cooking. service can be hit or miss - i've had really outstanding servers at times and other times, not so great. however, the food is good, portions are generous, and prices are cheap, so i can overlook the occasional lapse in service. i am not a fan of their veggieburgeror their vegetarian chili, but they normally have fresh & delish veggie plates - with super mac-n-cheese. i like their cornbread too. on thursdays you can get home-style chicken & dumplings - which for a native southerner like me is true comfort food. oh, and don't forget to save room for the banana pudding!

i normally go during lunch, and it's worth the wait. tasty chili. i much prefer tha texas to the cincinatti. it is spicy, though, so if you don't like it hot, avoid. chili / slawburgeris great. the nachos are huge. if you like spicy, get the nachos with texas chili. if you really really like spicy, i dare you to add jalapenos to it.
