along with a trillion other eateries, lp's quality meats has been on my radar for some time although it was never at the top of the priority list. i was aware that it existed and it seemed decent but i hadn't really investigated it and didn't feel particularly compelled to. i finally paid some more attention to it when researching dinner spots for a catch-up with vee, who expressed her interest when i suggested it.

we rocked up on a wednesday night without a reservation and were seated immediately. the restaurant is set in a spacious warehouse (right next to ester!) with communal dining tables so there is a lot of seating. they seated us and other couples at right angles on table corners, perfect for knocking knees with a love interest.

being fickle foodies, vee and i took some time deciding what to order. the waitress suggested about 3 dishes to share between us, so we opted for two starters and one main. as the name suggests, the focus is on meat so meat was the starring element of each dish.

the smokedbeeftongue arrived first. whilst tongue may not be up everyone's alley - and understandably so - we were intrigued by how it would be served and how it would work with its accompaniments, which outweighed its potentially strange taste. i needn't have worried though: my tastebuds began doing a happy dance when i took my first bite. the dish was tender, fatty and flavoursome. thebeeftongue was sliced very thinly and took on the flavours of the bone marrow oil and vinaigrette. the oil was very indulgent but also very moreish.

next came the grilled octopus. it looked like it was served in a watery bolognese-type sauce but never fear, it was much tastier than that. the octopus was definitely the star of this dish, outshining the sauce, which whilst pleasant, wasn't a knockout in terms of flavour. there certainly could have been more chorizo but i suppose they didn't want the chorizo to compete with the octopus. the octopus was well-grilled: it was cooked but not overly rubbery and had an alluring smokey flavour. so far, so good.

there was a bit of a delay between our starters and our main but it was worth the wait. the porchetta was served with a selection of lp's sauces: chimmichurri, chilli and mustard, each adding a different flavour to the porchetta. i liked the chilli best. but how was the porchetta itself? well, i am not a huge pork fan, but i do like my roast pork so this was quite up my alley. there is decent, average pork belly and then there is lp's porchetta. the porchetta was wonderfully soft and tender, falling apart easily at our knives' mercies. the cut had a good ratio of meat to fat, giving it a juicy and fatty flavour but not overwhelmingly so.

i almost considered not ordering dessert since there are only 3 dishes and the menu is very light on their details so they didn't particularly appeal to me but vee set me straight. she is a coffee addict so naturally we ordered the coffee granita dessert, which was more or less what the menu said: a layered coffee granita and cream trifle, served with biscotti on the side. to be honest, there was nothing really stand-out about the dish but it was a refreshing palate cleanser after all the meat. the meat is undoubtedly lp's specialty.

overall, lp's is a very solid dinner option, especially for the meat-lover. whilst it may not be one of the immediate restaurants that jumps to my mind when i think of dinner places, i will be sure to keep it in a mental back drawer as a cool group hangout.

i don't give a rating of 5 very often, if ever, but lp's absolutely nailed it. we shared the blood sausage andbeeftongue to start and the short rib for main. the blood sausage and short rib were delicious, rammed with flavour, tender, flawless. thebeeftongue was good but the other two knocked it out of the park.
washed everything down with a bottle of the alma negra, cant remember exactly but i think it was a shiraz, from the heavier side of the menu anyways.

currently the best dining experience under $50 pp so far. location wasn’t a issue for us, as it was located in the alleyways behind central park. inviting atmosphere and laid back staff resulted in a well oiled cogs in a machine.

we started with olives and coppa. in-house made coppa was as good as expected, savoury aged fragrance makes me salivate as i write this now.

eggplant parmigiana was deceivingly delicious, it was encased in a fried chicken batter and topped with a generous serving of burrata and cut by the mild acidity from the tomato sauce. it was like the long lost vegetarian brother of chicken parmigiana.

duck and pork terrine was more like a massive sausage. the duck imparted a slight gaminess and accents the terrine.

despite the long wait for mains, it was definitely worth it. porchetta had a beautiful mix of herbs including rosemary and thyme, with super crispy skin but it was slightly too salty imo.

smokedbeefribs, extremely tender, flavourful and warming for the soul.

the highlight of the meal was the pouding choumer, it reminded me of my childhood digging into a maccas hot cake but in a gourmet version. the essential flavour remains but the ladyfingers like cakes were lighter and the temperature contrast with vanilla ice cream was a failsafe addition that elevates the dish.

i had the creme caramel first and i thought it was great until pouding choumer walked into the room, nevertheless solid though.

i’m not a big fan of chocolate but marjolaine was delicious in its own right, rich and gooey dark chocolate cake was quickly gorged down by my chocolate loving friends.

it was nothing out of the box but everything was done with care and attention, resulting in evidently good dining experience. also, i would like to commend luke powell for his flippity flop technique and an absence of chunky monkeys in the dishes.

location is a little out of the way but still walkable from central station (or even town hall; what i did). i first noticed a lot of working people in the restaurant, i suppose it is a popular post-work haunt as they do have a nice selection of drinks. overall had a very classy atmosphere to the place and they have an open kitchen.

service was very helpful and they patiently explained to us that salami cotto was cooked whereas salumi was cold cut. we got the salumi, smokedbeefshort rib, porchetta, mash & gravy, sourdough and butter, applewood smoked ocean trout and smoked shoulder ham.

my favourites were the ocean trout and the porchetta! the trout had such a lovely mix of flavours to it, so creamy and tasty. the pork belly had the crunchiest skin and juicy meat. the salumi was also very smokey, and the short rib sooo very soft. special mention to the mash & gravy, amazing buttery goodness but it was a little tooo mushy for my taste.

overall was a great experience, quite pricey so would only recommend for a splurge every now and then or for a special occasion.

vegetarian – ancient tribal slang for the village idiot who can’t hunt, fish or ride’if you subscribe to this, then lp’s quality meats is the spot for you!tucked away in dark laneways in the middle of nowhere, chippendale, are some of the hottest trendy restaurants of the moment. lp’s quality meats is one of those for the caveman in you.there are plenty of accessible public transport options to get you to broadway, or at least central station. from there, it’s a 5-10minute walk through the narrow streets of this interesting suburb. you’ll go past art galleries that are too weird for my liking, the hottest bars that have no visible entrance and dodgiest looking petrol station chinese takeaways that’ll almost guarantee instant weight loss.if your chair is on the big side, you may have to go on the road at times, because the sidewalks are way to narrow with lots of poles.then you get to this spot. wide doors, all flat, even comes with a friendly bouncer, so roll straight in people and let the feast begin!the inside is extremely simple, like most of these hipster joints. there’s no  carpet, easy to push and get around. table height is low but bar stools are high, not ideal, however workable.if smoky meat is your thing then this place is heaven. thebeefshort rib is to die for, even simple sides like homemade sourdough and corn are surprisingly delicious. if you don’t know where to start, go for the platter. the sauces are delicious, and pickles are a must, their mustard is a bit funky for me, but since you don’t pay extra for it, just top up more of the other stuff. if you are there with a good size group, why don’t you mix it up with some seafood too? octopus is a not-so-fishy choice.this place books out quickly, so make sure you reserve a table in advance.the kitchen is more than happy to cut the meat up into small pieces before serving, but hey, who wants that? there’s that extra hint of wildness if you just grab the whole chunk and wolf it down.the whole venue is well set up for easy access. the bathroom is spacious and practical, comes with a pot plant and a table for your bag, and get this… a scented candle.the toilet seat comes with a soft padded back support cushion for all of us that don’t like leaning forward, and extra toilet paper is there too if you accidentally eat way too much meat for your digestive system.great food, good atmosphere, if it wasn’t a little too loud and crowded, i’d give it full marks.all and all, 4/5 for the restaurant and 5/5 for access.-march on

lp’s quality meats as the name suggest serves up a wide array of smoked and cured meats, fish is also on the menu with some non meat sides.  its in a lane way in chippendale not really a place you would expect to find a restaurant or just walk by. all of the dishes i had were excellent, simple food done really well. if your in the mood for a meat meal i would defiantly check out lp’s quality meats.   vitello tonnato $16- i did not know what this dish was so had to ask the waiter was told its cold sliced veal covered in a creamy sauce. not something i have had before but i was in the mood for something new so i gave it a go. i’m not the biggest veal fan however this dish was great the meat was soft and full of flavor with out being overpowering. glad i tried it and would defiantly order it again. coppa $15 – hard to go wrong with   cured pork   so good two servings were ordered. 15 hr smokedbeefshort rib $38 –  the meat was so soft it was just falling off the bone, with the meat has a strong smoked taste to it. pouding chomuer with vanilla ice cream $14 – super sweet tart a great way to finish off a meaty meal. the sweetness of the syrup is balanced with the creaminess of the iced cream, a simple but very tasty dessert.     lp's quality meats unit 1, 16 chippen street, chippendale ph: (02) 8399 0929   http://www.lpsqualitymeats.com/ tuesday to saturday bar menu from 5pm dinner from 6pm–11pm chippendale meat

oh my gosh.... my partner and i have been to lp's quality meats twice now, and to say this place completely blows our minds is an understatement. the meat! the smoked salmon! the service! everything in that place is pure class - the waiters and waitresses seem like they genuinely want to be there, which is a rarity these days. the quality of food is outstanding; two standouts for me are thebeefshort rib and the smoked salmon. the short rib is so good that the only words my partner spoke to me for twenty minutes were "mmmm...mmm". the smoked salmon is a great alternative for someone who is not keen on the meat sweats; the beautiful smokey flavour takes away some of the 'fishiness' that can sometimes come with salmon, and it is served on a bed of creme freche and capers (which are also smoked). thanks lp's - we won't find it hard to create another occasion for us to return for.

heaven for meat lovers! i visited as a group of 6 including 2 kids and everyone had a great time. we had the croquettes, smoked wagyu and pate for starters and all were polished off. for the mains we ordered the smokedbeefrib, and 1.2kgs of dry aged rib steak both perfectly done. the photos isn’t to scale but they were huge and definitely enough to share between us. would definitely revisit.

while initially ambivalent about coming here because of the whopping price of one rib ($59), we wanted to see what all the fuss was about and to our delight, lp quality meats did not disappoint. thatbeefrib was insanely good. we also got the porchetta which was also very tasty but perhaps a bit too fatty for my liking and i’d probably try their other dishes next visit.
service was top notch, the staff were hella friendly and attentive despite the busyness of the restaurant.
can’t wait to visit this place again!

will come back for:
+beefshort ribs
+ smoked sausages
+ village salad
+ pastassio ice cream

came here with a couple of mates for a quick meal and a couple of beers, and was suitably impressed by the smoked meats! the ribs were some of the best i have had anywhere (on the bone, super tender and just the right level of smokiness), the smoked sausages where also nicely smoked and flavorsome. we also shared a couple of desserts but the highlight for me was the pastassio ice cream, packed with pastassio and super creamy. great little eatery (it was packed for a tuesday night) but service was great and friendly, and the place was rustic and modern. price is on the fine dining end of the spectrum but the ribs were worth it! will be back.

if you’re looking for food late at night then this is one place you can call. dark and relaxed vibe in the back streets of chippendale. they make their own salumi- we tried the mortadella and salami. the mortadella was slightly garlicky but still enjoyable. it came with dark sourdough, a huge jalepenõ, salty butter and olives. thebeeftartare was lovely too. different with the caviar added, gave it another level complexity to the dish.
thebeefshort rib was my favourite. so smokey! i’d love to come back again for the porchetta.

update 29/04/18: still the number 1 restaurant in sydney. just immaculate

wow wow wow wow. i am still dreaming of the porchetta at this cool, funky restaurant. casual and friendly staff are the cherry on top - made me feel like i was eating at a friends home. even the chefs yelled out a goodbye upon leaving. thebeefrib is next level - a teeny tiny bit too peppery for me but still amazing and very different to all the other smokedbeefshort ribs floating around the scene currently. but the porchetta...i mean, it was like butter. i swear i turned into the little heart eyes emoji when eating this. unfortunately i didn’t have room for dessert as i was about to burst and suffering from meat sweats, so i guess i’ll have to go back for it and not eat for 3 days prior.
