lord of the isles

had lunch on sunday. came from melbourne. service was first class. staff were very happy and attentive. great ambience.foodwas very very good. wine and beer selection was also good. overall 'the lord of the isles' is certainly recommended.

in terms of pub food, this has to be geelong's best. more of an upper class bistro, the lord of the isles delivers fantastic service and tastyfoodconsistently. i love their seafood linguine and the hubby goes for the classics. all meals are timely served and well seasoned. if you're looking for a hearty meal with a warm, dimmed ambience then this is the place to go.

i had the scotch fillet cooked perfectly but the veg was a bit light on. my wife had bernys linguini could not fault. staff amazing especially our waitress who chose beers for me. greatfoodwill come back again and again

overpriced basic pubfoodin a more formal setting. older crowd, and not really somewhere to come for drinks. plenty of better pub options in the area.

mutton dressed as lamb. my family and i (quite a large booking) ate here this easter. first of all i would like to say the venue looks very nice, and ourfoodarrived fairly quickly. however there is a big problem with lord of the isles, mainly being its price and quality of food.

lord of the isles seems to be harbouring under the delusion that it is an upscale restaurant, believing it'sfoodto be 'fine dining' when in fact it is counter meals at best. there is a certain expectation when one is paying upwards of 30 dollars for a main meal and that is one of quality and service. neither of which are present here. thefoodis sloppily presented in the style we've all become accustomed to of pubs but i haven't paid 22 dollars for my chicken parmigiana i've shelled out 28 (plus 15% mark up for public holiday). the chef seems to have an adverse reaction to seasoning hisfoodas the ingredients of salt and pepper are strangely absent from almost all items. service is also lacking, despite having plenty of staff on we were never checked on during our meal and offered another drink, asked how our meal was etc.

all in all there is nothing wrong with a good pub meal, but it must be that; good. with so many pubs around geelong doing the same things better and cheaper why bother going here?

we enjoyed a beautiful meal here last night. the lamb ribs fell off the bone, and the quinoa salad was a perfect combination. best looking parmie i've seen for a long time & a great looking burger. it's certainly not cheap however !! i always think of the lord of the isles as a pub however it looks better than that & has a price tag to match !! really goodfood:)

fantastic service. the service here is amazing. i went to dinner there and had to be out by 8pm. the service was so prompt we were done by 7:45pm with full and happy tummy's!!! quite a classy environment but still has a relaxed feeling about it all. i thought thefoodwas quite good, i got the thai beef salad and enjoyed it!

everything. lobster sliders salt & pepper calamari with roast tomato rocket & mango! yummmm!

lunch. spent two lunches here on 3 day trip to torquay.foodfantastic! service excellent! a real winner!!!

nit being from the geelong a.... not being from the geelong area my friend & i googled places to eat in geelong and this is where we found ourselves. had lunch & really enjoyed it.thefoodwe had was yummy.

the autumn menu is a cracker !. we've been coming here for 15 years. mostly average..
we had lunch on saturday and thefoodwas the best we've had in geelong. four of us ordered crumbed lamb cutlets with peas and mash and one chicken parma with chips.
the mash was sublime and the cutlets superb.
the chips with the parma were twice cooked and the best i've ever tasted.
all in a good experience. we'll be back for more very soon !

mutton dressed as lamb. the website and menu make thefoodsound a lot better than it actually is. we ordered tapas thinking it would be good to try a few things but overall very ordinary. this is definitely a bistro not a restaurant and thefoodwas definitely not freshly prepared. chips were those soft powdery frozen type, calamari overcooked in something that tasted like spare rib batter, arancini tasted like it had been in the fridge/freezer for a very long time before cooking, i couldn't finish my thai fish cake it was that ordinary, and the peking duck spring rolls did not have any taste that resembled peking duck whatsoever. disappopointing and expensive. the beer was cold and the table service relatively friendly but you had to go to the bar to order a glass of wine.

disappointing. i have been to lord of the isles a few times now and i will never go back again! the service is not as good as it used to be and i found out tonight that they have a employed a new chef hence why i will not be returning. ourfoodwas terrible, there was a basket of chips that we disgusting (how hard is it to get chips right?) the beef, lamb and duck did not taste good at all. when paying i wasn't even asked how ourfoodwas. we both left very disappointed with thefoodand service. i will not be recommending this place to anyone again.

terriblefoodand slow service. chef said he wasn't happy with our steaks so cooked then again, waited 1hr 20 for burnt overcooked steaks and potatoes that were like rocks. slow service and no one came to ask if we wanted dessert so gave up and left. friends went and said same thing. yuck!
