i'll be upfront and honest with the dishes. we tried the maa long chim which to my dismay was just above average. unfortunately out of all dishes, the chiang mai larp of chicken was not enjoyable at all. it was the spiciest dish on the menu and i was already getting worried of how spicy could the otherdishesbe. it was inedible and way too spicy for my liking (if you like to sweat and tear up, by all means). the rest of the dinner was well done and maintained a homely feeling. the menu ended with a very pleasing coconut cake which i wished i had more space for. overall, i'm quite solid on a 3.5 but i would definitely come back again to try out the other a la carte menu items.

i've decided to give this place a try after stumbling upon it venturing into the building. first impression, the ambience of the place gave the feeling that you're traipsing into a high-end side-street hawker avenue. loved the feel as the decor seem to give promise of an authentic food.
my partner and i decided to walk-in and got a table very quickly on a saturday night. we had both agreed to try the maa long chim (come sample and taste) 3 course meal.
as soon as we ordered, we were given an early warning that one of thedisheshas quite a fiery taste. let me tell you we did not anticipate how spicy it got when it hit our palate. that was the chiang mai larp of chicken. i was able to savour the chicken briefly before being flooded by the spiciness, even the cabbage wrap could not douse the fire. needless to say, i wasn't a big fan of that meal. the crunchy prawn and grilled pork on skewers definitely hit all the right spots with the flavours.
the mains came and the table was graced by a bowl of rice, thai green curry of chicken, stirfried siamese watercress, minced prawn and pork soup, and deep fried fish with 3 flavour sauce. the winner in this course were the watercress and the p&p soup. they were just bursting with flavours! however, i found the green curry lacking in taste and the fried fish did not do justice with the sauce. saowanee in north perth wins hands down.
lastly, we had the coconut cake with coconut shavings. it was a nice end to a crescendo of flavour.
we had a great time with some non-alcoholic drinks and the spicy dish certainly burnt itself to our palate memory!

good decor and service but cannot applaud the food. the crispy prawns for starters were well prepared and a decent size serve. but the tofu laksa was simply inedible. the waitress warned me it was hot, i assured her that was fine. it wasn't. laksa is one of my favouritedishesand i have eaten it throughout s.e.asia but i have never met one anywhere near as thick and hot as this. it is probably "authentic" to somewhere in thailand i have never been. i was hoping for subtlety and nuance, freshness and clean flavours, the balancing act of good thai cooking; i received oral thuggery. when the cashier asked what i thought of the meal, i told her, and she said that it had been toned down as there were so many complaints originally and the chef refused  to alter it further. i have some sympathy for the notion that asian food in perth is too often a bland shadow of "genuine" but then there are some originals it is not worth recreating.

hot hot hot! most of thedishesnumb your tastebuds here. i am a spice lover but somedishesare way too spicy, to a point that you lost the good flavours of the dish. food aside. the ambience and cocktail selections are playful and fun, perfect for your friday night outs. worth a try!

this restaurant has amazing decor and vibe. it's pretty cool. we were warned about the spice of food and tried to choose milddishesbut unfortunately still needed to ask for a glass of milk! food is authentic and shouldn't be criticised but unfortunately it's just too hot for my taste buds.

i tasted manydisheshere as part of a fantastic degustation menu.
stir fried mussels with chilli jam - really appreciated this dish, so yummy.
a dish of stir fried watercress with garlic and yellow beans.
crunchy tiny prawns with herbs and chillies, a very good starter!!!
beef skewers with turmeric, cumin and coriander - a nice starter.
chiang mai larp of chicken which was too hot and you even could not ask to make it less spicy.. who knows why..
a delicate coconut and turmeric curry of chicken at long chim. very good and delicate flavor. loved it.

first time coming here. have been trying to get into this place for a long time. weekends are always busy. even tonight it was busy. just as well i had made a reservation. staff are friendly and our food and drinks came quite promptly. i ordered the virgin mary. one if the best i had in a while, loved the extra kick of the spice.
between the three of us, we ordered a vegetable curry, stir fried chinese broccoli with crispy pork (which in other asian term is roast pork) in oyster sauce, grilled pork skewers, and charred noodles with chicken and squid. grilled pork was very tasty, the stir fried vegetable was quite ordinary, the vegetable curry was delicious and had a nice spice to it, the char grilled noodles smelled delicious on arrival to our table, although quite tasty could do with less salt.
didn't have the stomach to have dessert as we were stuffed. would definitely come and try otherdishesand the dessert.

*rating is a 4.5*
came for dinner for 4 on a saturday night. we were promptly seated by our friendly host and proceeded to order:
- vege spring rolls (standard),
- crunchy prawns (tasty)
- green papaya salad (delicious)
- siamese watercress (very tasty)
- massaman beef curry (very good)
- deep fried fish (good)
- charred noodles (delicious)
- for dessert we tried the banana roti which was surprisingly delicious, as was the mango and sticky rice.
overall thedisheswere balanced, flavour packed, but generally very spicy (be warned!). the restaurant itself is very funky and has a distinctly ‘melbourne-like’ vibe which i love. service was very good. definitely worth a visit.

we went on nye and were locked into the set menu. the beef skewers were disgusting! it was basically fat on skewers and were inedible. the manager sent it back to kitchen and gave us new ones. they were still inedible. we deserve good quality meat for $75 per person. the presentation of thedisheswere also unappetising. the photos were evidence of bad thai food in the pretence of being upmarket. we felt cheated!

both times at restaurant have been outstanding. this is my new favourite asian cuisine in perth both for work events and date night. love the set menu options providing a variety of scrumptiousdishesand the cocktails were top notch. friendly, helpful service, decor is impressive and ambiance is spot on.

went on a busy saturday night without a booking and was able to be seated outside. we were right under the heaters so wasn’t cold at all. it was a bit hard to get service as the waitresses were always busy. the food was amazing and authentic. we had the grilled octopus, smashed prawn curry and papaya salad. all threedisheswere delicious. the non-alcoholic cocktails we ordered were average. i would definitely be returning for the food!

got the chance to try out long chim during a recent trip to perth. we dined in on a sunday night and enjoyed two starters and three largerdisheswhich was perfect for two people. the food itself tasted great and the portions were larger than i expected. the place itself is set in the basement of the treasury building and had a great atmosphere, being quite lively for a sunday night. would recommend!

despite the mixed reviews i’ve been wanting try this place for some time! and finally tonight my partner and i decided to dine for the ‘chefs recommendation menu’. we took the $68pp option which had 8 courses (the $95pp option had an extra two courses of the lamb ribs and banana roti)
the restaurant itself is located downstairs in the treasury building. it has a beautiful warm and cozy feel to it. but that’s about as good as the positive news went for us.
to say our dining experience was a disappointment is probably an understatement. the quality of food, not to mention the portion sizes for the shared menu were very small and below average. to start we had chicken satay skewers, fried prawns and the pork and rice cakes. the skewers were okay, but definitely could use sauce. fried prawns tasted like nothing but batter. pork and rice cakes were good.
mains just got worse. fried fish tasted rubbery smothered in sickly sweet sauce. the two tiny pieces of roast duck did not belong in a green curry.
and finally our tiny coconut cake dessert. again, a sickly sweet coconut sugar cake that lacked sauce or an accompaniment of any kind!
honestly, this had to be the worst dining experience we’ve had in an asian restaurant. for $140 for two. this place is an absolute rip off for what it is. i’m so glad we didn’t go the $95pp option. after looking at the menu again we noticed the ribs on their own are $42 (we would have been paying an extra $50 for the ribs and given a smaller portion to share!)
so a tip to anyone that does want to try this place, regardless, for themselves - do not go the chefs menu. our thinking was ‘well this is the bestdisheson the menu that the chef has selected’. this is definitely not the case imo. i’d recommend just go with a couple more friends and pickdishesfrom the main menu to share. but honestly, for the price, the quality is just not even worth the waste. save your $$ and dine elsewhere. there are plenty of amazing asian restaurants in perth that have far more to offer for a portion of the price.

anyway, very bad first and will be the last experience for all of us.
totally no worth to pay that kind price for this kind food n service. never ever back again . so sorry.

if your idea of thai food is the typical bits of chicken floating in pale green coconut cream from the standard fair australian thai kitchen, then read no further - this restaurant is not for you.  i am a keen follower of david thompson's recipes and reproduce a good number ofdishesfrom his books.  last night i finally got the opportunity to find out what the restaurant could teach me about how it should be done.  i went pre-prepared with a selection of 12dishes(enough for 7-8 adults).  wow - it certainly was good!  a revelation on what thai food should be.

we started with cocktails and i can recommend the tropical thunder (had to have two).

the grilled chicken is crispy skinned, moist and delicious, a superb choice for those not too keen on chilli.  my 10 year old daughter is hooked and it's a recipe i'm keen to emulate at home.  the crispy prawns are exactly that and full of flavour but be prepared to eat the school prawns whole, the heads and shells are where the flavour really is, a point lost on many people i know.  the sour orange fish curry, the snapper tom yum, chinese brocolli & pork, roast pork and roast duck were absolute stand-outs.    the food makes your taste buds sing with fresh lime, mint, coriander, lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, fish sauce, palm sugar and of course chilli.

the most important thing i think about this restaurant is that if the staff tell you a dish is hot, they mean just that. i like chilli and cook with it a lot but some of thesedishesare not for the faint hearted - just as i've had them served to me by thai friends.  you may even need to take a turn outside to cool a sweated brow but let me assure you, if you like authentic thai food, this place is unmissable,

the only thing i wouldn't order again were the beef skewers which were a touch bland and could have been more tender.  the baked prawns in glass noodles can be a trap when sharing with a large table - there are only three prawns.

at long chim if you find the fire too hot - you're in the wrong kitchen!  can't wait to go back!
