heard great things and we were eager to try. the venue, ambience and service were great, a table of 4 we ordered the deep fried squid, which was tasty although not as spicy as i had hoped, stir fried chinese broccoli absolutely delicious with chunks of hidden pork belly, prawn and fish dumpling laksa, a generous serve with great taste, redcurryof roast duck - just ok, greencurryof chicken nice flavour and the fried rice of crab meat enjoyable (fav dish) - we really wanted the mussaman but they were sold out. this was followed by banana roti - sticky and sweet and a coffee type ice cream a little strong (they were also sold out of mango sticky rice). with a bottle of wine, couple of beers and a cocktail or 2 it was about $100 each.. i liked it - but not sure if i'd book again i found galangal in mt hawthorn just that much better in flavour

i've decided to give this place a try after stumbling upon it venturing into the building. first impression, the ambience of the place gave the feeling that you're traipsing into a high-end side-street hawker avenue. loved the feel as the decor seem to give promise of an authentic food.
my partner and i decided to walk-in and got a table very quickly on a saturday night. we had both agreed to try the maa long chim (come sample and taste) 3 course meal.
as soon as we ordered, we were given an early warning that one of the dishes has quite a fiery taste. let me tell you we did not anticipate how spicy it got when it hit our palate. that was the chiang mai larp of chicken. i was able to savour the chicken briefly before being flooded by the spiciness, even the cabbage wrap could not douse the fire. needless to say, i wasn't a big fan of that meal. the crunchy prawn and grilled pork on skewers definitely hit all the right spots with the flavours.
the mains came and the table was graced by a bowl of rice, thai greencurryof chicken, stirfried siamese watercress, minced prawn and pork soup, and deep fried fish with 3 flavour sauce. the winner in this course were the watercress and the p&p soup. they were just bursting with flavours! however, i found the greencurrylacking in taste and the fried fish did not do justice with the sauce. saowanee in north perth wins hands down.
lastly, we had the coconut cake with coconut shavings. it was a nice end to a crescendo of flavour.
we had a great time with some non-alcoholic drinks and the spicy dish certainly burnt itself to our palate memory!

i tasted many dishes here as part of a fantastic degustation menu.
stir fried mussels with chilli jam - really appreciated this dish, so yummy.
a dish of stir fried watercress with garlic and yellow beans.
crunchy tiny prawns with herbs and chillies, a very good starter!!!
beef skewers with turmeric, cumin and coriander - a nice starter.
chiang mai larp of chicken which was too hot and you even could not ask to make it less spicy.. who knows why..
a delicate coconut and turmericcurryof chicken at long chim. very good and delicate flavor. loved it.

can't rate it more that 2.5, sorry. the problem with most perth "fine dining" or upmarket venues is that you come to get a great service and unforgettable food experience (since you're paying 3 times the price of a local takeaway shop) - and instead it's average at best for the premium price.
anyways, the good: pretty decorations, nice tables, cute outdoors area. it's a pleasant place to spend a few hours at. thumbs up for that. tasty greencurry(with not much meat though).
the bad: the food is nothing special. at all. beef in the massamancurry(which is supposed to be melting in your mouth) was stiff and leathery. duckcurryhad maybe 4 pieces of duck, that's all. the amount of rice (plain boring rice) wasn't nearly enough for 4 people. the wine glass my friend has been given wasn't clean enough so she had to ask for a replacement. a small bottle of cider for $11. total bill of $200. the overall feeling in the end: hmmmmm, and this is considered good?? cmon perth, stop praising mediocre overpriced places! design and good service are supposed to be default to attract the customers, and then the food is supposed to wow - not just be acceptable. a place like that wouldn't survive in melbourne or europe.

first time coming here. have been trying to get into this place for a long time. weekends are always busy. even tonight it was busy. just as well i had made a reservation. staff are friendly and our food and drinks came quite promptly. i ordered the virgin mary. one if the best i had in a while, loved the extra kick of the spice.
between the three of us, we ordered a vegetable curry, stir fried chinese broccoli with crispy pork (which in other asian term is roast pork) in oyster sauce, grilled pork skewers, and charred noodles with chicken and squid. grilled pork was very tasty, the stir fried vegetable was quite ordinary, the vegetablecurrywas delicious and had a nice spice to it, the char grilled noodles smelled delicious on arrival to our table, although quite tasty could do with less salt.
didn't have the stomach to have dessert as we were stuffed. would definitely come and try other dishes and the dessert.

*rating is a 4.5*
came for dinner for 4 on a saturday night. we were promptly seated by our friendly host and proceeded to order:
- vege spring rolls (standard),
- crunchy prawns (tasty)
- green papaya salad (delicious)
- siamese watercress (very tasty)
- massaman beefcurry(very good)
- deep fried fish (good)
- charred noodles (delicious)
- for dessert we tried the banana roti which was surprisingly delicious, as was the mango and sticky rice.
overall the dishes were balanced, flavour packed, but generally very spicy (be warned!). the restaurant itself is very funky and has a distinctly ‘melbourne-like’ vibe which i love. service was very good. definitely worth a visit.

we recently visited long chim and were totally blown away and were totally impressed. can't believe this is the same place where we had a bad (not so good) experience last year. this is our third visit to long chim perth and by far the best one.

everything was just perfect, wonderful from the start to finish.we truly enjoyed our lunch/ meal and it was truly a festival of flavours !!

omg we are totally in love with the larb of chicken and mashed chickencurry(yellow curry)

larb of chicken is totally an explosion of flavours, herbs and spices. it is dynamite - my favorite entree and dish of the day !! we also ordered the some vegetarian spring rolls - they were nice, hot, crunchy and fried to golden perfection.we also ordered crunchy prawns for entrees - whole crunchy prawns (with heads) served with fried shallots, finely sliced shallots and lots of coriander and other herbs. again a big tick - really goes well with a cold beer or any cocktails.

for mains we ordered mashed chickencurry- it is very similar to the prawn mashed curry, long chim's signature dish. initially i was a bit skeptical but the chicken was tender and mashed in the coconut and turmeric gravy. the yellowcurrywas really flavoursome, rich and intense. has the right balance of all the flavours - sweet, salty, sour and spicy
this dish was recommended by the staff and we will surely be back for seconds soon !! this is my new go-to-dish as they have removed my favorite prawn mashedcurryfrom the menu.

for dessert, we ordered the rin's thai tea ice cream with pistachios and young coconut - and it was a perfect way to finish your meal.

in short excellent food, amazing service and a perfect meal / lunch-date.

the pros: the most delicious, juicy duck, great ambiance, perfect for a date night or taking visitors.
the cons: extremely overpriced. $24 for 2 x bean curd rolls? $29 for a small serving of mediocre massaman beefcurrythat was lean and dry. $16 for 2 scoops of ice cream?! we were also overcharged for items we didn't order or didn't receive. our waitress charged us for 2 x servings of rice that we didn't order. it's incredibly presumptuous to add a side to a customers order. despite having an early booking and the restaurant not being at full capacity, we felt rushed with our waitress hassling us. it made for an unpleasant experience when we were celebrating a special occasion.

headed to long chim on a busy friday without a booking and they were able to squeeze us in with a short wait at the bar. both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks were delicious with hints of asian fruits and spices such a kafir like and nutmeg.
service was impeccable, while we were waiting they would check on us every 5 or 10 mins to make sure we knew we hadn't been forgotten. they were all very knowledgeable on menu items and made suitable recommendations.
food came out quickly and i couldnt fault any of it. the crunchy prawns, squid and duck fried rice were cooked to perfection. id probably chose acurryinstead of the lemongrass fish next time but it was still tasty.

went on a busy saturday night without a booking and was able to be seated outside. we were right under the heaters so wasn’t cold at all. it was a bit hard to get service as the waitresses were always busy. the food was amazing and authentic. we had the grilled octopus, smashed prawncurryand papaya salad. all three dishes were delicious. the non-alcoholic cocktails we ordered were average. i would definitely be returning for the food!

we were 4 sisters been here for celebrating our family day . very disappointed with their terrible service. first thing was that one lady came to table to take order for us all were the first time been there but she turned up very unpassion.
and we order 5 sharing dishes all were terrible, the greencurrynocurryflavor no taste , we even didn’t know what we were eating !
anyway, very bad first and will be the last experience for all of us.
totally no worth to pay that kind price for this kind food n service. never ever back again . so sorry.

this was my 2nd visit to long chim - this time for dinner and drinks, the 1st time was just for cocktails and dessert which was a fantastic experience. we arrived around 9:00pm on a wednesday evening and the crowd seemed to be starting to die down...

a group of 3 of us ordered the stir fried soft shell crab noodles, grilled lamb ribs and 'mussaman'curryof beef with a couple of serves of steamed rice for our choice of dinner. and unfortunately... it was extremely underwhelming and actually disappointing.

- the noodles in the soft shell crab dish came out as a massive lump, with the large halves of crab layered underneath. the crab although sizable in portion was mushy & watery, lacked flavour nor did it taste the freshest
- the lamb ribs which was supposed to be the hero of the dinner came out lukewarm and... far from tender and succulent, decent flavour though
- the mussaman beef was the best dish out of the 3 but still far from a standout.

these generally negative sentiments of the quality of the food were shared by all 3 of us in the dining group.

i am not 100% sure if it was because of the time of our visit or we just lucked out completely - irrespectively at long chim's price point and reputation it shouldn't be substandard at any given time. i am mindful that my experience may be isolated as the reviews from most of my friends as well as the ones i've read online are positive.

service was brilliant (although feeling ingenuine at times), cocktails brilliant as always and the vibe and sitting outdoors in that terrace area is completely chilled and comfortable. will definitely visit again for drinks but i doubt i will go for the food again - i can think of any other thai restaurant in perth that serves far better thai food based on this experience.

i’m a big fan of thai food and have been to lots of thai restaurants (cheap and expensive, good and bad). i have to say long chim is my least favourite thai restaurant i’ve ever been to.
the $18 grilled pork is very small portion but we were still ok with it. the thai beef salad is small portion but tastes exactly how it should be so i thought ok at least the flavour is there for a $30 salad.
then i almost dropped my jaw when thecurryfish we ordered was served. it was very bad presentation with 3.5 pieces of thumb sized broken fish fillet along with some veggies that i could hardly recognise what they were, served in the smallest bowl i’ve ever had for a thaicurrydish. and the flavour is the worstcurryi ever tasted, it was just watery spicy soup. this is unacceptable for a $33 dish. i expressed my unhappiness with thiscurrydish to the waitress and she kindly took it to the kitchen and came back with a few more fish fillets and veggies in it.
then the glass noodle was served, it felt like that the noodle, veggies, squid, eggs, pork mince were cooked separately and then merely plated together to form a dish. the mince was extremely salty.
look, i don’t mind you being pricy as a modern australian-asian restaurant, but you need to serve your customer what they pay for. food with this price being small quantity, it’s expected to have good quality and the taste! thecurryfish should even be off the menu! i ended up with paying expensively with big disappointment and didn’t bother ordering any other things to try.
there are plenty of good thai restaurants. long chim - never again for me. and i will stop people i know from going as well merely to avoid a bad experience for them!

went there as a surprise birthday dinner. food was great however they forgot our greencurryhad to ask for it and couldn’t even provide rice with it since they didn’t take it out to us in time the rice had already been eaten. so we had thecurryby itself.

organised a surprise dessert with a candle. they served our plates on the table first which made it really obvious for the birthday guy that there was a cake or something coming. kind of pissed me off a bit since they knew. and destroyed the little surprise that it was.

food flavour on the other hand was really spicy and definitely something different. location is amazingly beautiful. a must try.

terrible, disgusting, dog food? i had green beef apple eggplant thaicurrytoday from the long chim tuck shop for lunch. i can't eat it at all, it's all beef fat with no apple nor eggplant what it said in the menu list. perhaps you should name it as "beef fat" instead. $16 for that?? i even won't eat it for free! i even won't give it to my dog! can i get my money back, please...!!
