lone star

after most of our group registered for the hawkes bay half marathon and 10k, our focus turned to dinner so we crossed marine parade and found ourselves here. seated straight away we ordered a few drinks to tide us over until we figured out what mains to order. pretty much went with the classics - johnny cash stashes, ribs, steak, nachos and a burrito. judging by the empty plates soon after i'm guessing everyone was happy with their choices. did notice that the coleslaw they served was dressed better than the lasttimei'd eaten at a lone star so nice work there. front of house and the service team were friendly and working well so all in all a good night out.

i’ve been here about 4 times in the last 5 months and everytimei’ve been there it’s been busy. it says a lot about the place when there’s always plenty of customers. the service is great as well as the food. the only down side has been the quality of my favourite dish - the pork ribs. 2/4 times the ribs were a bit tough and were quite chewy. i suspect that if you get there early then you will get served the first batch of ribs which are not quite tender and falling off the bone yet. other than that everything is as good as the other lonestar restaurants i’ve been to.

were there with a big group over the weekend and being the art deco festival it was crazy busy and the staff were run off their feet, but the staff were never short with us, treated us with respect and provided friendly excellent service, and the food came out ontimeand was great.

one of the best dining experiences i have had, especially considering the circumstances. would definitely recommend.

great quality food with big protions - worth the price. awesome customer service! although the food took wuite sometimeto come out but still a great place to go to for a quality family dinner. would come back again soon. highly recommend!!

this lonestar is amazing! the food is always delicious and the portions are big. the service is pleasant and the setting/theme is stunning and consistent. i highly recommend this to anyone who wants a 'hearty feed'. the only downsides i've found is the price, as the main meals are expensive, and the waittime(on average the waittimeis usually 30-40 mins, but can be much longer depending on the night).

i had been hankering for a steak all week, so the visit to napier seemed like atimeto feed the beast.

i got the sirloin medium. it was pitch perfect, tender and cooked very well.

i dined at lone star queenstown 2 years back. and its become a trend to dine at lone star at all places i visit. thistimewas no different. very relaxing ambience. amazing food. awesome pork ribs (the thing that got these guys popular). super fine chicken. juicy and succulent. the salad sides create a balance for all dishes. a delightful selection of desserrts. nothing too fancy, but something that no one should miss. not a fan of the cocktails though. if you guys are reading this; muddled kiwi and pineapple or for that matter any fruit, gets stuck in the straw and spoils the experience of the drink.

price wise: $70 for 2 including a drink each.

went there for the firsttimeand it was crowded and busy on a saturday night. had a free starter of salt & pepper squid from its grabameal daily offers and it was good. overall the meals we had are excellent with generous portion and good presentation. staff were friendly and helpful and the ambience was casual and relaxing so i will definitely go back for the second visit.

hubby and i went for dinner last night, firsttimevisit to lone star in napier (been to other lone stars in other parts of the country) great layout of the venue and no prob with the service.
had a bit of a mishap with one of our meals but was dealt with well by the staff so thumbs up for that. generous meal size even for the med size so wont go home hungry.

visited lone star napier recently to celebrate a friend's birthday. my friend phoned ahead oftimeto make a reservation but was told they did not take reservations. when we arrived we were asked if we had a reservation????? we were a party of four adults. i knew as soon as my plate of food was placed in front of me that i was not going to eat it. kitchen staff need upskilling in presentation of food - particularly mains as i could not really fault the dessert which was offered free in place of the main that i did not eat. another member of our party was also disappointed in his meal and ate very little.

first impressions do count - especially with food. we do eat with our eyes in the first instance.

i don't mid paying good money for good food but quite frankly i felt that your prices were very high (around $30 for a main) and i expect a lot more than what you had to offer for that price. i enjoy eating out, but our night out at the lone star, napier was definitely not enjoyable.

we have been to the lonestar 4 or 5 times although we mustve been mad to go there the last time. one night we had to wait about 40 mins to be seated then another 30 to get our mains brought out - and then the steaks were stone cold! we asked for new ones but i suspect they mightve just microwaved them because the replacements came out pretty quickly. the wedges were burnt to a crisp and soggy as well. horrible. the nexttimewe went (why i dont know) we took guests from overseas and the whole experience was virtually repeated. the ribs were tasteless, we were crammed in so tightly you couldnt move, and the list goes on. needless to say it was the last straw. yes, the meals are big but they are also way overpriced and you can end up spending a small fortune. never again.

i love visiting lone star, they are always packed so wait times can be a little bit (for me usually between 20-40minutes) but it has never bothered me as the atmoshpere and lovely service always makes the night fly. food is wonderful i have never had a bad/bland or dissapointing anything from there and they do a wicked slushy cocktail that is only 4.50!!!
meals are huge! have only been able to make it to dessert 1nce but i intend to go just for dessert onetimesoon. it is one of my most favorite restaurants in napier. love it!
