lone star

after most of our group registered for the hawkes bay half marathon and 10k, our focus turned to dinner so we crossed marine parade and found ourselves here. seated straight away we ordered a few drinks to tide us over until we figured out what mains to order. pretty much went with the classics - johnny cash stashes, ribs, steak, nachos and a burrito. judging by the empty plates soon after i'm guessing everyone was happy with their choices. did notice that the coleslaw they served was dressed better than the last time i'd eaten at a lone star so nice work there. front of house and the service team were friendly and working well so all in all agoodnight out.

this is how a lonestar should be. goodfood,goodservice nice environment. with lots of seating.

the portions are generous and lots to choose from.

ended the meal with a jack daniels chocolate mudslide that is the best i have tasted in my 46 years on earth 😁
this place is really busy on a friday night and now i understand why.

service is homely and wonderful. had a sexy beast with jager, option also smirnoff, 2 servings and a beautiful lamb shoulder with crisp asparagus, veges, mash potato and a jus..lamb is melt in your mouth.goodprice for your meal. recommend if you are staying overnight. great view oit to the beach. situated on marine parade

i’ve been here about 4 times in the last 5 months and every time i’ve been there it’s been busy. it says a lot about the place when there’s always plenty of customers. the service is great as well as the food. the only down side has been the quality of my favourite dish - the pork ribs. 2/4 times the ribs were a bit tough and were quite chewy. i suspect that if you get there early then you will get served the first batch of ribs which are not quite tender and falling off the bone yet. other than that everything is asgoodas the other lonestar restaurants i’ve been to.

agoodplace for celebrating someone's birthday! we brought a cake and a very friendly staff brought it out as planned. honest staff as well not to rip us off! large food servings!

family-friendly, great service andgoodfood. great place to catch up with family and friends. the short stack redneck ribs was juicy and tender, you can never go wrong when you try it. finished off with the longhorn cheesecake to complete a great meal.

we went out for date night here and i really enjoyed it the ambience was nice....the food was delicious we shared ribs for an entrée they were really good.....i had crispy skin duck which was very tasty and my husband had lamb shanks which he thought were a tad small but still good. service was friendly and prompt overallgoodnight out.

awesome customer service! the staff were bubbly energetic and friendly! had lamb shanks and its cooked perfectly! and im not a lamb eater! lonestar is a very casual place with high end pricing, the ambiance and cleanliness of the place is well worth the price you pay for for thegoodquality of food you get. i guess what im saying is that lonestar isnt a sophisticated themed restaurant, but with saying that, the food is quality! awesome for a casual dine out if u had a but of extra. great experience!

we went to lone star on 2nd jan. it was pretty quite and therefore expectedgoodfood and quick service. the entree was ogood to start with, just the fries being a bit too thick.. we ordered the mains and there was overload of cheese. nothing seemed fresh. my mom had visited lonestar rototuna before and therefore we went again to have a meal with the family, but it was disappointing. the classic chicken meal we looked good, but tasted aweful. the chicken was not fresh, the veges in burritto and nachos were not fresh either. for the desert i orderd a banoffe pie which was so hard to break even with the knife and spoon which was provided. dont know why but the shortbread pastry was the disaapointing bit. the quantity vs. price was ok.. but the taste was not worth it!! :(

went there for the first time and it was crowded and busy on a saturday night. had a free starter of salt & pepper squid from its grabameal daily offers and it was good. overall the meals we had are excellent with generous portion andgoodpresentation. staff were friendly and helpful and the ambience was casual and relaxing so i will definitely go back for the second visit.

dinner for four last sunday evening.  first impressions good.  greeted nicely and efficiently at the door.

this is a new building and it is decked out really well inside.  nice and interesting withgoodlayout and features.  big bar.  it was acoustically a bit loud but not too bad.

staff were well trained and looked like they wanted to be there!  our waitress was pleasant and efficient, but spoke way too fast for us to understand the specials.  :)

food was excellent and well prepared.  good sizes and reasonable prices.  can't really go wrong if this type of food is your thing.

visited lone star napier recently to celebrate a friend's birthday. my friend phoned ahead of time to make a reservation but was told they did not take reservations. when we arrived we were asked if we had a reservation????? we were a party of four adults. i knew as soon as my plate of food was placed in front of me that i was not going to eat it. kitchen staff need upskilling in presentation of food - particularly mains as i could not really fault the dessert which was offered free in place of the main that i did not eat. another member of our party was also disappointed in his meal and ate very little.

first impressions do count - especially with food. we do eat with our eyes in the first instance.

i don't mid payinggoodmoney forgoodfood but quite frankly i felt that your prices were very high (around $30 for a main) and i expect a lot more than what you had to offer for that price. i enjoy eating out, but our night out at the lone star, napier was definitely not enjoyable.

we ate at the restaurant on sat 7.6.08 and were very impressed with all aspects - friendly staff, prompt service, great food and reasonable cost.
