the pittsburgh strip district is the perfect foodie getaway from morgantown. it's just about an hour and a half north and is filled with a ton of little shops - especially ones filled with delicious food. my friend and foodie extraordinaire joel brown was kind enough to help show me the ropes, and we also recruited ann , eternal optimist and adventurer, to join us.  21st street coffee and tea : joel and ann love the lattes from this place. so, of course, i had to get a latte. it was the first stop, so it was nice to get some caffeine bright and early in the morning. i don't drink a lot of coffee, but this one was pretty good. and look how cute that latte art is? 2002 smallman street pittsburgh pa 15222 412-281-0809 21streetcoffee.com peace, love & little donuts: ann required a mini donut, so we squished into this little place. i got a blueberry donut. i know joel says they're made from mix, but i actually enjoyed it. plus i'm not sure i've ever actually had a blueberry donut? tasty. 2018 smallman street pittsburgh, pa 15222 412-489-7693 www.peaceloveandlittledonuts.com the enrico biscotti company: yum! i ordered a white chocolate biscotti from the case, but i saved it until i got home. and it was delicious! i love a good biscotti, and this one hit the spot. 2022 penn avenue pittsburgh pa 15222 412-281-2602 contact: larry lagattuta www.enricobiscotti.com lotus food : i love asian markets! they're confusing and overwhelming, but there is so much to explore! i wanted to get a few frozen things, but since we still had a ways to go, i didn't want anything to go bad. next time. 1649 penn avenue pittsburgh, pa 15222 412-281-3050 wholey's fish market : samples of soup and cider sold me on this place instantly. there are just rows after rows offreshseafood - anything you could possibly want. fish and scallops and crab and everything i love. remind me to bring a full cooler next time. 1711 penn avenue pittsburgh pa 15222 412-391-3737 contact: robert wholey www.yahoo.com/who

not so great. from many of the reviews on would think that little bangkok was thai nirvana. unfortunately i am not of the same opinion. i went there for lunch last week and was disappointed. before i speak about the food i must admit the service was very good and the restaurant looked clean. the decor is not pseudo thai and could pass for any ethnicity. the prices were higher than most of the other thai restaurants i go to but not out of line. last, the portions were quite ample. now to the food. i ordered two dishes - fish patties anda green duck curry the patties were notfresh- they were quite rubbery and i suspect made from a processed "fish" roll. the duck curry was served in a standard soup bowl rather than the deep dish bowl as is usual. the duck was tough and the whole curry was obviously warmed up out of the fridge. lots of vegetables but the whole dish was below average i found it odd that the usual thai condiments were not on the table as is standard in thai restaurants but when i asked for them they were promptly delivered with a smile. i probably will not visit little bangkok again.

best thai food in the city hands down! you have to appreciate a place where no msg is used andfreshproduce from the strip is purchased every morning. the crab wontons are to die for! i will be there at least once a week and will of course recommend it to my friends.

once was enough. after livinig in asia for four years and recently returning to pittsburgh i love thai food. after a lunch visit with my 10 year old daughter i know i'll stick to nicky's on the north side or make my own thai. service indifferent and slow. i requested lime for the pad thai my daughter ordered. they didn't have any. i find it disappointing that the newspaper ad states "the freshest local produce from the strip" and they can not serve afreshlime quarter with the dish. mango sticky rice was the only part of the meal i would repeat.

fresh and amazing. we weren't sure what to expect, this restaurant is relatively new and was pretty empty when we got there but oh my, the food is fantastic. i got sweet and sour, and partner got pad thai and they were both sofreshand wonderful--haven't had thai food this good in pittsburgh (maybe not anywhere). only caveat: we both ordered 5 out of 10 for spicy and it made our eyes water (and we love spice!) so if you don't want spicy or want mild...say "1" or "0!" awesome food and good service--we will go back soon!

awesome food!!!. went there for lunch. got thefreshspring rolls (huge portion and delicious) and the chicken satay. both were among the best i've ever had.

we both had the drunken noodles for the entree and they were excellent. a nice take on the normal pad kee mao with some bell peppers added (something many pittsburgh restaurants don't add).

the restaurant is also very clean and the server was great. the owner even walks around to make sure everything is good!

overall i'd rank this in the top thai places i have ever been to. will definitely be back!

fantastic thai food. i've become such a fan of thai food in recent years that i can almost call myself an expert. and this is among the best thai food i've ever had. after just three trips to little bangkok in the strip, i can say that i've experienced dishes i've never tried before, and tasted better versions of dishes i routinely order elsewhere.

you have to appreciate their location, not only because it's convenient for diners, but because of their proximity tofreshproduce. i also know for a fact that they take no shortcuts in their efforts to make authentic thai food the way penny's mom and aunt taught her to. for example, they use tamarind juice in their pad thai instead of vinegar, the way it's done in thailand (so i'm told).

plus, the service is absolutely top notch. they're fast without rushing you, accurate with the orders and genuinely friendly.

on a saturday, there was a long line for roland's, so we went next door to try the new place, little bangcock in the strip. the place was pleasant and uncrowded and the service excellent. the lunch specials included a half-dozen typical thai dishes. we both chose a spicy basil dish; it came with a cup of miso--perfect on a cool day--andfreshsteamed rice. we both asked that it be spiced to #7 (out of 10): it was wonderfully flavorful and hot enough that i had to mop my forehead. great food, great service, pleasant decor and all for $8. we'll be back!

delicious thai. small little place with big flavors and taste. the soup was good with scallions for flavor but the bigfreshflavors are in the main course. the green curry with duck meat has coconut milk-based curry the come with eggplants, bamboo shots, bell peppers and basil. packs some heat but just the right amount, it was hard to quit eating even thou the portion was large.

very impressed!. my husband and i were shopping in the strip district and stopped in this restaurant for lunch. we had no idea what to expect, just tried it on a whim. we were both pleasantly surprised to enjoy the best thai food we had ever eaten! we had the massaman curry and tom kar and both were exquisite. our server was so pleasant, friendly, and courteous. the cook/owner came out from the kitchen and talked to us about our meals which really impressed us, too. we will definitely be making the trip back to pittsburgh to eat at this fine establishment.freshflowers on the table added a nice touch, and the ginger tea was superb. highly recommend!!
