respit. after a long day of hunting for apartments i was walking down the sidewalk and spotted leméac. it was bustling with activity and i was frazzled. when i went in the host asked if i wanted a table and i said i was having a rough day, "sit me where you would sit."

moments later i was on a sunny patio with water and bread surrounded by a mix people as diverse as the sidewalk outside. well dresses ladies and late 20s and early 30s hipsters relaxing, eating, and drinking.

my request to the waitress was a glass of something delicious and whatever on the menu was her favorite. she brought me sancerre and i almost fell in love with her and the wine. then the house smokedsalmonbrought some respect to this often created and seldom perfected dish and made me incredibly happy i had wondered in.

if you're having a difficult day, leméac can put a smile on your face.

very few brunch places serve seafood on their menu apart from serving smoked salmon. here thesalmonare either house smoked or cured in salt, sugar and other aromats. the first has a spectacular presentation - two perfectly poached eggs wrapped with a thick slice of smoked salmon, served on two blinis and drizzled with a caviar hollandaise sauce. light and filling, definitely worth ordering!  the second seems to be underappreciated as none of my neighbouring tables ordered the norwegian seafood plate. this dish brings back good memories of my time in copenhagen when i had smørrebrød in a boat restaurant with a marvellous view of the canal. as you can see below, you have a wide selection of toppings for open-faced sandwiches with 3 slices of buttered caraway b

february 28, 2015 / by zuuchini / in food , montreal , restaurant review / post comment for my mother’s birthday this year, we went to lemeac for brunch. this was a little refresher from her favorite spot, breakfast club. no reservation was made, but it was okay for our laid back schedule. arriving about around 2pm, the restaurant’s tables just started to free up. what a timing! breads with 2 types of jams were served before our main meals and to say the least, mr.butter and my mom fell deeply in love with the jams. sadly, no picture was taken. they were fruity and the sweetness was just on point. potato and leek tartelette, sunny side up egg, lardons and asparagus this tartelette looked harmless on the plate. my mom’s first remark was “that’s all” but appearance can be misleading. maybe it was because of over indulgence of the previous bread, she couldn’t finish it. i don’t blame her; the infiltration of the goat cheese was pungent and became heavy after several mouthful. otherwise, it was a nice hearty tartelette. poached eggs, smokedsalmonand spanish caviar on blinis this visually pleasing poached eggs and smokedsalmonon what i would like to describe as miniature pancakes were delicious. the poached eggs couldn’t have been better cooked. once knifed it, a coulis of egg yolk rushed out like a opening of a new stream. i personally believed that the spanish caviar was nothing but acting as a fancy visual to the whole dish. mr.butter had to disagree saying he was able taste them. norwegian plate (salmon gravlax, nordic shrimps, caraway bread, cucumber salad) this norwegian plate was quite an unexpected item for brunch, although it fits naturally well in one. the biggest highlight would be the flavorfulsalmongravlax. gravlax is basically rawsalmoncured in salt, sugar and dill. a nice change from smoked salmon. the slices were thicker and the taste was more soulful. i would choose gralax anyday over smoked salmon. french toast, milk jam ice cream and maple cara

the raw and fresh delights were accompanied by an armenia white dry, a light and fruity wine dangerously too easy to enjoy. then came the appetizers, with emile’ssalmonfirst in line. interestingly enough, le leméac cold smokes its salmon, which gives it a dark pink pigment, delicate smoky flavor and great texture. for my part, i opted for the snail ragout. tenderly fatty escargots mixed with portabella mushrooms and floating in delicate foam of basil (which the gents almost succeeded in convincing me to be flavored toad slime…) – by all (my) standards, a playful and exciting plate to discover.

...leméac is a classic french bistro café that serves excellent food at an affordable price (on slightly pricier side). i personally am a huge seafood fan, so the choice was a no brainer. served on fluffy thin mini pancake, the full-bodied hollandaise sauce is drizzled on curatedsalmonand 2 poached eggs with caviar on top.

the after-10 menu is a must! the grilled calamari appetizer is fantastic, and thesalmontartare with fries cannot be missed. a trendy crowd in a lively atmosphere - there's a reason why leméac still procures a line-up at 11pm.

late night miam. menu 22 a 22 est en en fait 25 à 22 mais bon.
still super worth it.
do not get the green salad as an appetizer, not that its bad, its just mixed greens with olive oil and balsamic, nothing scrumptious. thesalmontartare is on the other hand divine served with yummy super thin crispy fries or salad (same as the entrée salad)
there are quite a few interesting items on the late night menu and the price is right.
i will be back!

22$ after 22h. if you're like me, and like to dine late...this is the perfect place to go. their special of 22$ menu after 10pm (including a decadent appetizer, delicious main course and coffee) is so worth it. i had the goat cheese with warm apple and walnut salad to start, theirsalmontartare with fries as my main.... it was amazing. we got a nice bottle of wine... which was always full- the service was excellent. there's a great atmosphere at lemeac... make a reservation and check it out for yourself.

good food. i had a good experience with the smokedsalmonand the duck as the main course. the only down side was that due to the extreme heat, it was very hot in the restaurant. i will definitely return.

grest classic french fares!. before heading to lemeac a buddy who went there warned me:
it's too much fuss! the steak frites was just ok! "rfaol, i replied
...never mind the fuss, all i need to know is about the food. and oh, by the way,
i do not go to an upscale french classic bistro for steak frites! do that at home!
i go for more french classic fares..". so, i went and find out for myself:

the herring i had taken as a starter was delicately smoked, and flavorfully enjoyable -> perfect fresh taste. not a complexed starter, but well done. my girlfriend went for the beef tartare: utterly savourish, perfectly seasoned with a fresh and great quality meat. we have had tartare in every way imaginable, but this one of theirs is impeccable.

then "pot au feu de saumon" for her, and "boudin" for me -> my bloody pudding was delightfully savourish. ideally cooked as well.
hersalmonstew, which i picked some bites from, was bathed in a perfect fragrant all savory broth with the freshest ingredients i would have expected in my ideal pot-au-feu.
both her and i prefer the beef version though, but this one was very tasty and flawlessly executed (it was not hard to see that they had put the requested amount of long preparation
and great attention that a great pot-au-feu needs).

at dessert time, my girlfriend went for the "pain perdu". from bites of her "pain perdu", i found it to bear a perfect crunchy crust on top of being deliciously sweet, perfectly airy inside, with awesome flavors. very very tasty!
unfortunately, i could not rave about my choco mousse -> although i concede that the quality of the chocolate on it's own was irreproachable
(really nice quality), the mousse as an overall felt short of excitement (just an ok mousse. it could have been better!). but hey..that was the only off-note on such fully loaded flawlessly-executed fine dining.

a bit of a stiff service, but courteous and helpful.
it was loud on that latest saturday evening we spent there, but no biggie since the rest was great.
