what a meal!. traveling to montreal for business, le filet had been recommended to me by a local who was well aware that le bernardin in manhattan is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. i eat there whenever i can afford it and never thought a restaurant could come close to their cuisine. le filet has and in some instances, surpassed what le bernardin has achieved in my humble opinion. in fact, i was last night, humbled by the cuisine at le filet. standouts - lobster, scallop salad, and fluke. stunning. for the price, i can afford to fly there just to dine again. very reasonable. if i had one complaint it is the high level of noise. it was loud but it was crowded with high demand for tables. well worth a visit.

le filet is a serious restaurant. the hostess promptly checks your coat upon arrival, waiters thoughtfully recommend food and drink according to your preferences, and a 30-50 year-old crowd makes the place buzz. can’t wait to go back in summer and eat on le filet’s lovely terrasse!

fully equipped with a small terrace for warmer days, the restaurant embodies haute cuisine in almost every way thanks to the careful attention to detail in the meticulous presentation of food, the well-trained servers and the overall decor of the place. walking in, you immediately notice the long bar, the open kitchen closer to the back and the mesmerizing three-dimensional photographs of seafood, illuminated by a backlight behind the bar. very cool. la piscine - champagne and campari we sat down to a pint of st. ambroise and one of le filet's only cocktails, la piscine . made with campari, champagne and a hint of orange, it is satisfying as it remains rooted in classic cocktail territory and pleases the palate in a not overly sweet but bubbly way. flounder with japanese prune, wasabi and cucumbers le filet advocates a tapas style way of dining which suited us just fine. we like to shar

satisfactory. went to le filet last week, great service attentive staff. the food? not overprices for what you get, but nothing really great considering the buzz i had been hearing. would i try it again? if only i was in the area. was not exactly super impressed that i would go out of my way.
again, i am a difficult client-so they say.
overall rating for an establishment of this caliber?

delicious. fantastic meal, some components better than others obviously but over-all i would rate this place very well, excellent service, although my waiter was a bit of an arrogant prick at first, great wine list, nice ambiance, and most importantly great food.
must-try is the cod with macadamia nut, the hamachi with julienned cucumber, the jicima salad with fennel and grapefruit and the venison carpaccio with mushroom and comte cheese (possibly the best single bite of food i've had in a while)

it's good but it's gonna cost you. filet is definitely one of the best new restos in montreal. it's fine dining in a trendy nyc like atmosphere. from outside it looks like nothing but once you go in....wow. food was wow the oyster au gratin was to die for and kills the rib n reef. it's a sharing menu which i find a bit annoying but every dish we had was succulent and perfect. one of the best new resto's in mtl. esthetically beautiful but the coat check is weird (as soon as you walk in all coats hanging). 4 dishes, 4 cocktails and a bottle of wine coated 550$ but the quality of ingredients is amazing

de plus, l’assiette comprend une petite rémoulade de champignons et un mini tartare.

the cod was flaky and perfectly seared, but it tasted under-seasoned, which is a first for me when eating cod (maybe the kitchen was spooked by another local reviewer’s cries of over-salting). the char, on the other hand was a smidge too charred, but otherwise delicious, the citrusy vinaigrette not overpowering the delicate, tasty filet. the octopus was divine – unctuous tentacles that melt in your mouth, aided and abetted by the marrow and sweet, roasted tomatoes, which we sopped up with the thick, tangy onion rings. the mushroom and snail tart had a nice, flaky crust, but the creamy,

400$ for 2 people. i was so excited to discover a nice restaurant in that area. at first, the waiter kinda forced us to order all plates at once and strongly recommend one of the most expensive bottle of wine... it's kinda weird... the food is good, service is not great, very expensive. the restaurant won't last very long. its the kind of restaurant that you feel that you don't belong there....

nicky. ambiance is warm and very "bistro". oysters with inividual toppings are excellent. the tuna tartar was "ok". a cope version of le pied de cochon but not so tasty. the fish with safran was 'ordinary" . all dishes were very well presented. the service was excellent except for the fact that when the waiter was yelling the menu to the table beside us and we could not hear anything but his yelling...... all in all, a nice experience, an adult crowd, and ok. the wine list is good and well presented.

the plates started coming and kept coming until we decided we’d had enough. in all, we ended up sharing 11 dishes including 2 desserts. i wanted to share my favourites with you but i found myself listing everything we ate so i will refrain and let you drool over the pictures instead (thanks to nabil for all the photos!)

best seafood and tapas-like sharing dishes i had in montreal. great atmosphere and location. their terrace will be killer in winter. i was warmly greeted by both owners upon entrance and got seated at an awesome table in the corner. most of the food is mean to be shared. that's why we ordered 4 or 5 dishes to share. their tataki was absolutely delicious. the waiter had pretty good idea of the wines he was selling. we tried an italian one, that was filtered through volcanic ashes. a truly original one. all in all, awesome, nyc-level experience in montreal.

one downside - it is a bit too loud and gets much louder by the end of the night when people are moving onto their 2nd or 3d bottle.
