36 hours in montreal ? i had more like 27 hours (not to be confused with 127 hours , also known as almost 32 days). when my sister said she'd be at a big conference just 4 miles up the road, i jumped at the chance to share the weekend with her. the ride up took just under 5 hours because i was quite delayed at the border. the lines didn't look long, but it took forever. i zoomed back (with no wait at the usa gate) in 4 hours with one short stop. (and no tolls. can you believe that, everyone?) i've heard tons about montreal bagels (even in 1987 , when i was really too young to be thinking about it). but i just didn't have time to eat one on this trip. i know we'll be back this summer, but if i can't wait until then, i may just need to go to mile end in brooklyn (a montreal-style jewish deli that imports the bagels and smokes the meat in-house). naturally, after parking the car, my first stop was schwartz's . the long line outside scared me a little, but it turns out that's for the resta

could be good. we've been here for breakfast a couple of times now and it's really disappointing. the space and ambiance of this place is very cool, but the food is a let down. it looks and tastes like a hotel buffet breakfast - quite dry and not overly well presented. it could do much better.

good, but not the best. it's kind of hard to screw up breakfast, so the food is good and they have a lot of healthy choices but it's a bit pricey, as is everywhere in old montreal. the decor/atmosphere & service were all great, plus they have a lot of healthy snacks and other things you can buy to-go.

weekend brunch find. went for brunch--tons of options, including healthy choices! can get packed very quickly and you eat on long, mess hall/cafeteria-style benches with others, so best to go in a very small group for quickest seating. would definitely return!

great brunch. for our last morning, we decided to go out for sunday brunch at le cartet. we had to wait about 45 minutes for a table in this tiny little combination gourmet store/bistro, but it was completely worth it (besides, while we were waiting i got to stare and dream about all of the croissants and gourmet chocolates). once we finally got a seat, we were served illy coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. i ordered "the brunch of the month" which was a spinach and pesto strada that was delicious. served with crusty french bread, fruit, and greens - this filled me up but didn't leave me feeling sick (in the way sunday brunch often does). keith ordered the canton - bacon, ham, and eggs cooked up in an iron skillet. this place was a perfect end to our trip.

during montreal winters, women like me transform from glass-half-full girls to more glass-of-vodka-quite-empty types. mother nature doesn't allow us to be fashion forward; even if we have beautiful coats in our closets, we experience the temptation of wearing ugly puffy parkas. during these cold months, some courageous types even take to the ice covered sidewalks in heels, while others (like me) who lack toned core muscles (me) and have had their fair share of humiliating tumbles (like me at a busy intersection at the busiest time of day) don't see this as a viable option. nothing seems right. every outfit...ugly. this is where le cartet comes in. it quickly became my second home last winter due to their knack for kicking up a fabulous brunch. i can't explain it...i just felt happy there; it made all my winter blues go away. the room is industrial chic (white washed exposed brick walls and textural subway tiles compliment the communal wooden tables that span the length of the restauran

not recommended for lunch. very nice restaurant, but at least 3 of the dishes we wanted were "unavailable".
i ordered the salmon tartare in entree which was not very tasty, very small portion..
in dessert i ordered the fondant au chocolat which was more a chocolate mousse than a fondant. there was an aftertaste of salt.
quite expensive for what i ate
i do not recommend this restaurant for lunch

le cartet is a beautifully designed restaurant known for it's brunch menu on the weekend. located in old montreal, le cartet offers a fair amount of choice and once you get in the door the service is very good. le cartet 106 mcgill st montreal, qc h2y 2e5

as the better half says, all looks, no substance. cozy atmosphere, yet the food is sub-par. griffintown cafe offers a far better brunch!

was a really good place to eat, once upon a time. now, the only redeeming quality about the restaurant is it's location, decor and atmosphere. if that alone is enough fir you, then his place is for you. if you want good food, i suggest you look elsewhere.

goat cheese scrambled eggs are the best. had them for the third time yesterday morning, on my second trip to montreal. and two days in a row this time!
they are absolutely delicious and i am dying to know how they make them. everything else is always good too, judging by comments from fellow diners. the service is friendly, the decor is hot, and it's all good.
