i just ate at last resort and the food was so horrible i felt compelled to write my first ever restaurant review. we started the meal with a bottle of red wine; however, after sampling the house's recommendation, which was average at best, we went with an argentinian cabernet that was pretty good. we each had the white bean chicken chili that was very good. my main was the hanger steak, which came with a honey glaze. it was so sickening sweet i couldn't even taste the meal. i ate about half my food before my stomach was so turned i couldn't finish. our serve offered me another meal but i was so longer able to stomach food. the side of mashed potatoes was runny and their string beans were tasteless. my main was $18. my friend ordered their chicken special for $22, which was a quarter of a chick with the same, pathetic sides as my dish. eventhough they didn't charge for my meal, the food was so over priced and horrible i'll never return. save your money and your tastebuds, this restaurant would only be my "last resort" if i were starving.

nostalgia thats relevant. the last resort cafe probably should be re-named try here first!! this truly relaxed & warm, cozy atmosphered haunt, easily makes up for the wait, which you almost always have, unless you're like megalotto lucky -lol- from a biz standpoint, i can see both sides to the "to take reservations or not to" debate. it's a shame for the restaurant to lose the many, many folks b/c they don't have the patience to wait if the place is busy, but perhaps this adds to the charm and "homemade exclusiveness" draw to make up for it! i can only hope they try again and eventually give it a try. food is absolutely terrific and i especially loved the praline chicken --but you must, i mean must, save room for desserts which are among the best in athens. service i guess varies, depending, but not enough to bother me, considering the set-up and busy-ness. great place for sunday brunch, and the day i went last year -there was no wait!! i have no kids of my own, and love them, but resort is not well suited for the youngsters, unless you're willing to be disappointed with service, etc. -do yourself a favor! prices, for the quality, are amazing! give yourself a treat and go to the first, i mean last resort, as much as possible. bon appetit and bon a mi.

food's ok, but.... i've dined at this restaurant on and off over the years and it used to be one of my favorites. the food's ok but the last time we took friends there i was just over the place. maybe it is my age...no tolerance anymore for overcrowded, elbow to elbow dining where you have to scream to have a conversation, then still can't be heard. can't stand the parking issues down town and hate standing in line, but i'm over 50 and fussy!!

nestled snugly in downtown athens is a small restaurant with a large crowd called last resort grill . we had tried to come here before but the wait was well over an hour and sadly we chose to go across the street to casa mia instead. after that experience

very nice. i like this place. always have liked it. there have been ups and downs as with all restaurants, but the last resort has always been a good comfort restaurant. jaamy and janine make for one of the better owner, gm teams in the city. the kitchen has been consistent for many years now and a lot of that goes to the excellent wedge in behind the line.
the daily pasta special is the one that does it for me. always good. we all go here to enjoy the ambience, the food and to visit with the knowledgeable and friendly staff.

good meal, slow service. a friend and i dined here last night, and i was surprised to see that this restaurant, which i had passed by for years thinking it was a sports bar, was actually one of the best restaurants in the area. we arrived at 6:10 and only had a 10 minute wait, but the house was already packed, and by the time we left, there were tons of people standing around waiting for tables. we started with the southwestern roll, which was basically a small burrito cut in thirds. it had chicken and jalapenos, cheese, sour cream and salsa. it was delicious. he then ordered the rockville pasta, which he said was delicious and had shrimp and fettucine with vegetables. i chose the salmon and grits, which had a generous filet on top of delicious grits with a caper cream sauce. both entrees came with a small house salad. my entree wasn't mind blowing or anything but still a good choice. nearly everything passing by our table looked extremely appetizing. we had a very nice server, who appeared to be attentive to us, but it still took probably 30 minutes to get our food. even with the wait, i still say this is probably one of the best restaurants in athens, and i would love to return and try other menu items or sunday brunch. their prices were very reasonable ($10-15 for an entree except for the specials), and their tea was excellent, not often the case in more upscale restaurants where it's not sweet enough if they offer sweet tea at all.

we always enjoy it. we often start with the humus (only available at lunch?). sometimes crowded and noisy, eating on the terrace is nice if the weather is good. servers are great. the prices are a steal, cecilia's wonderful cakes (we never go with the cheesecake). my favorite is usually the veggie grill, portions are reasonable.

last resort. i would probably consider this the best overall restaurant in athens. the location is great and it has a cool atmosphere with some outdoor seating - right downtown. the service is always good and the food is creative and has great taste.

the lunch is an unbelievable deal for a restaurant of this quality. you can get almost anything at lunch for under $10 and some of the items are around $5. the only bad thing about it is that it's no secret how good the food is and it's almost always tough to get a seat.

constantly incredible.. i've been to lr more times than i can even count and the food has never disappointed me. lunch and dinner both are consistently fantastic. the food is always hot, the sauces interesting and bold, fish is fresh, and the meats the perfect cut. i usually get the same dish at my favorite restaurants but last resort always gets me to try something different. and as picky as i may be, i have never had something that wasn't stellar. the enchiladas at lunch were great and the praline chicken at dinner is insanely good. it always knocks me over it tastes so great. service is great, even when they're busy, so i don't get how people would be disappointed. but, if something does go wrong, talk with the manager. he is helpful and very attentive. all in all, this the best all around restaurant in athens. i always leave thrilled!

lunch at last resort a must. for students, last resort's dinner is usually somewhere to go for special occasions or when parents visit, however, anyone can easily get a full and delicious lunch there for $10. everything on the menu is great, and they change certain items daily, such as the ravioli and quiche. i have eaten lunch there many many times and every time the ravioli is great no matter what sauces or cheese they use. the same goes for the quiche. the gourmet burger is also a must. if you have room for dessert, i recommend the nutella cheesecake. last resort has a great atmosphere and never dissappoints

just like old times. can't get away from the lrg. graduated uga in 94' and it was the best place in downtown athens then, and even now, 16 years later. good food, great cocktails and great ambiance. a little aggravating that they don't take reservations, but a+a++ all around otherwise.
