definitely crowded, but so worth it. granted, it's always always always crowded there, there's a reason. it's classy/laid-back/southern/hip way has always made it really feel like the anti-thesis ofathens(for me, at least). growing up, i didn't really think much of it but wisdom, as they say, comes with age ;)

so yes, it's super crowded but my best advice is just have a glass of wine by the bar and just chill out. when you (finally!) sit down to eat, there's a lot of great things on the menu. i recommend the crab cakes or the hanger steak or the u-10 scallops. another reviewer here said he didn't like the hanger steak and wouldn't recommend it, i fervently disagree. it was cooked perfectly and the glaze was delicious; it's also a chile glaze, not a honey glaze.

i also recommend the gorgonzola dressing. it's freshly made too, if i'm not mistaken.

the last resort might take forever to get you seated, just savor the wine and anticipate a delicious meal.

anathensmust try. the salmon and grits is phenomenal, and i was hesitant to try it. the white chocolate cheesecake and coconut cake are delicious as well. i haven't tried it, but a friend said their caramel cake is the best he's ever had, and he's a big caramel cake fan.

i have always enjoyed their fantastic food, devine handmade deserts, and a top place inathensfor sunday brunch. i rate for the food. who cares if a server was having a tough time or you had to wait. great places stay busy. if you want complaints. worse parking lot ever. parking has never affected our meal.

great welcome to athens. getting intoathenslast afternoon, i meet a friend and we head down to the last resort grill, recommendation courtesty of urbanspoon.

for a late sunday evening, i was impressed how busy this place was. that's always a good sign for me. a short wait and we were seated by a polite host. i ordered the salmon and my friend has the fillet. the place has a very upscale feel and expectations were high.

the wait for the food took a while and i found myself getting full off the rolls. when the food came, my salmon was a little overcooked and dry, but overall not a bad meal. it was served on a rice pilaf with a mango salsa garnishing the plate. my friends fillet looked amazing and i was wishing i had ordered that. it was cooked perfectly medium and served over mashed potatoes and asparagus.

i also had the cheesecake, which is made locally. it was quite good.

the waitress was very friendly thoughout the meal, but seemed a bit irritated when we asked for seperate checks. i don't get that, but oh well.. not asking for much.

i would recommend this restaurant and may go back and try the fillet next time.

just the best restaurant in the city ofathenshands-down. we had brunch their today & it was exquisite. the 3 cheese & bacon omelette is outrageously tasty.

great service. the place was crowded, but the food came out in no time.

had dinner with four. every order was prepared perfectly with a great combination of sauce and spices. with a short menu you can't go wrong. why have a 20 item menu when you can have 7 items prepared divinely. the restaurant was crowded and busy but the waiter did a great job of keeping up. will be back if i ever pass throughathensagain!

6/8/13. my husband and i went on a saturday night at 5:30. we have lived inathensfor 6 years, but this was our first time eating there. we've always heard for tourists to go and we've seen lines out the door so we figured we should try it. we both enjoyed our meals- crab cakes and pecan crusted trout. i am from the lowcountry of sc where seafood is infamous. the crab cakes did not have a lot of fillers (bread) so you could really taste the sweatness of the crab meat. that was my favorite part of the meal. that and the cecilia's cake we took to-go. the only negative is that it took us 2-hours to eat there and we were seated immediately. we parked in a two-hour parking spot and we still went over our time limit. thankfully, no ticket!

anathensstandard. i have lived inathensfor 14 years and continue to be proud to have such a great restaurant in my town. the food, service, and drinks are top-notch and definitely worth the wait. sunday brunch is delightful, especially (you have to wait til 12:30 to order mimosas). the grits are smooth and creamy. the love is obvious in everything you eat.

honestly a last resort. when i first came to school at uga the last resort was "the" date place. and it was honestly great in so many ways: service, food, and atmosphere. years later the food scene inathenshas changed and last resort is one of the traditions ofathensbut changes in service and food quality need to be changed and upgraded to compete with the new gastro pubs popping up.

must have in athens. lrg is one of my favorite restaurants in athens! if you don't believe me, just check out the lines that wrap around the building on any weekend! the food here is all so amazing, as are the cakes made by cecila v's! i love stopping by here anytime i'm inathensfor their famous praline chicken (for dinner) and their new rockville pasta (for lunch). great atmosphere, friendly employees and affordable prices-that's what i'm all about!

always worth the wait.... every time i go to last resort i have an incredibly long wait, but i never mind. people watching outside is great, especially on a sunday, and on occasion when i have had extreme waits, the manager has sent over free appetizers to keep us happy! the food here is inventive and exceptional. i love the atmosphere and style of the restaurant. this is one of my favorite brunch spots inathensand i love their grits. unforgettable! you really can't go wrong with anything you choose here so if you're not a sourpuss and don't mind the wait, you won't be disappointed.

one of our favoriteathensrestaurants. we've dined at last resort grill well over 100 times since moving toathensmore than 10 years ago. it's definitely our "go to" place when we have friends visiting and want to have them experience the true "downtown athens" culture. we have never had a meal that was disappointing, and we've gone for brunch, lunch and dinner on multiple occasions. my favorite dishes are the salmon bruschetta for lunch, the filet for dinner and the specialty quiches for brunch. and there are always new and unique specials that are sure to please. we love the various soups and specialty breads since they are ever-changing. i had the best cup of borscht there once. our daughter loves their hummus/pita bread/fruit plate as her meal. and of course no meal is complete without a slice of cake or cheesecake by the legendary cecilia villaveces. the bailey's layer cake is delightful and is our all-time favorite. the servers are always pleasant and add to our enjoyment. i know many people complain about the wait. our advice is to get there early! that's what we, as locals, do, and we never wait.
