i used to really like this place, but since the new owners took over thefoodquality has gone down hill. i recently ate there, and the prices offoodhad increased. i met a rep from sysco and after i told them what i thoug of the food, the rep informed me that they onfact were buyingfoodof a lower quality and charging more. the location is cool, and the atmosphere is neat. i did order a beer at the bar and again at my table and there was a $1 price increase at the table. i would recommend ruby's for good mexican food. it cost less, but is of a higher quality.

let me first say. thefoodwas decent as usual. service great. but last night at the bar area. the owners decided to ruin the night by showing the state of the union with loud volume. this was not only disrespectful to the customers in your establishment but the remarks were even more disgusting. the side eyes, clapping and laughing at the minorities who were being shown during the speech was sick!! it’s unfortunate because we do business events here but i cannot allow that to happen anymore.

i would rather not go into deep detail about what was being said out of respect to people who enjoy this place. all i know is myself, business partners and family will no longer be spending money here.

the owners should have thought this thru before they made more than just me uncomfortable in the restaurant last night. i’m telling you the laughing and clear mocking at me and and my buddy was stupid. even the child stared at me. but this is not a surprise.

i hope they learn from this experience.

shoutout to craig the bartender. he was a 5 star.

this was my third trip to las brisas. i have friends that rave about it but i have found thefoodand service to be above average for lubbock, but not reflective of the prices or on par with recognized chop houses.

i have had the kurobuta pork chop in the past and while a large portion and cooked well, i have had equally good pork for far less.

this trip was my first to try one of their steaks. i had the 8oz raspberry filet. while it was cooked to order and seasoned well it was rather tough and stringy. not a $40 cut of meat by any means. my worst filet at a ruths chris beat this hands down.

service was ok. not overly attentive. the wait staff have at least received training and didn't act like they were hired earlier that day like one finds in most lubbock establishments.

my overall impression is it is pretentious and priced well beyond its performance. for lubbock, it seems to fill a niche as a place the trendies can go to brag that they spent over $100 for an above average, but not stellar meal. i will probably give it a pass in the future.

its few redeeming features are the well stocked bar and the smoking patio where you can enjoy an after dinner cigar and drink. a rapidly disappearing feature in lubbock.

not at all what i was expecting, but exactly what i had heard.. hubby made reservations for anniversary dinner. at 6pm we were just in time, because the place was full by 7. the first thing we noticed is that we were sat at a nicely pre-set table with dirty wine glasses. we placed them on the dirty table next to us. our server, patrick, was bored waiting, i think, because he was at our table every 5 minutes. the good part is our drinks never went empty. the bad part ~ well, he asked twice if he could remove our appetizer plate. ummmm? no? we're kinda still working on it. but like, his hand was on the plate both times when he asked, and hubby commented that he was going to stab the guy's hand with his fork if he touched it again! so right there, we were feeling like we were being rushed.
that appetizer? calamari diablo ~ fried calamari mixed with black beans, pico de gallo, and jarred jalapenos. the calamari was a little underdone, but whatever. we ate it to spite our server.
looking around the room...wrinkled uniforms & dirty tennis shoes on all the servers....hmmmmm....hey! all these tables have a bread basket? can we try one? patrick brought one, but it seemed like he didn't want to....huh?
salad course ~ we kept it simple with caesars. the crushed colored tortilla strips on top are nice to look at, but otherwise it was just...meh.
on to the steaks, which is why we came. i got the 10 oz filet medium, and hubby the prime ny rare. the temps were right.foodcame out sizzling on hot plates, so that was a nice touch. except when placed in front of us, the sizzling butter (i think) they top their steaks with was all over the place and turning brownish. it made the plate look like it was a dirty plate. i ordered the chef's vegetable, which was explained to me as a medley, but was only green beans, and the truffled potatoes. there was so much garlic in the potatoes that i couldn't eat them. i love garlic, but, wow! they also looked like they had been sitting out and then microwaved...not good presentation at all.
hubby chose the sauteed shrooms and a loaded baked potato. the shrooms were good! the potato barely had any cheese or anything, and we didn't get the butter we asked for, so whatever.
we're about half-way done with our entrees when here comes patrick again...wanting to pick up our plates! arghhhh!
we ended with dessert ~ creme brulee. it was ok. the kahlua in the custard is a nice touch, but could have used a bit more sugar for the brulee. there was no "crunchy part" on it. when i asked patrick if there was a liqueur in the dessert, he said, "no. but there is a little kahlua in it."
$175 for dinner for two. seriously bad service. the steaks were tender, but in all honesty we've had better at other local spots. for the money, we'll have a better meal...and a movie...next time we go out.

way overpriced.. went out for a friday night date, had never been here before. staff was courteous, service was great. thefoodwas good, but nowhere near as good as the price would have you believe. i have had better steaks for less than half the price. the only thing i believe that was priced appropriately in my opinion was the $9 banana foster dessert. will not be back due to excessively high prices for moderate quality food.

mikey liked it. ate at las brisas on tech parent's weekend 2013, with wife and son. all were pleased with thefoodand service quality. i'm no yokel, having traveled throughout europe, uk, and far east. my experience was totally inconsistent with these review rip-jobs. suspect something else is going on here...

i cannot understand people's obsession with this overpriced poor excuse for fine cuisine restaurant. i like a fool keep trying this place, last night marks my fourth try. how hard is it to cook rice? my risotto was crunchy and my salmon was undercooked. the waitstaff is helpful and friendly. i won't be going back if i have a say in it. maybe people go here so they can flaunt their money to each other and prove to the world that they can afford to pay for mediocre food. it's laughable to me, maybe the citizens of lubbock should get out more and learn what goodfoodis.

lipstick on a pig.... when lb first opened, they were primarily just a mexicanfoodrestaurant. i was ok with that for a bit, they weren't trying to pretend to be something else. then i gotfoodpoisoning from their chili relleno's, bleh thank lb, now i can't eat them again! then they made the big switch to being a "high class" steak house, too bad they forgot the high class part, and the good steaks part....all they changed was their prices. it's one thing to add a little spice or a little upscale to your menu, but stop trying to be something your not. this place is a joke, and i have no desire to drive 10 miles out of my way for an over priced, poor service steak house. if you want good mexicanfoodyou can go somewhere else, if you want a good steak you can go somewhere else, if you want good service you can go somewhere else... easily 2/10

new owners result in bad food. every since this restaurant (which used to be one of my faves) was taken over by the guys that own buffalo wild wings it has just gone down hill fast. my wife and i come here for special occassions and have always enjoyed ourselves. my favorite is the bone in ribeye. it's usually huge, juicy and seasoned well. the last time we visited it was none of the above...except still huge. after waiting over 30 minutes (with not much service - empty glasses and couldn't get a second glass of wine to save our lives - ourfoodcame. i ordered my ribeye mr and peppered. it came out almost well done and not peppered and very dry. had to send it back. also, the asparagus were hard, not really sauteed. it was like they forgot to make them and sent them out almost raw. my wife had the pork chop, again, dry and underseasoned. she ate it anyway. at this time we still have not received our second glasses of wine. after my ribeye came back (almost cooked correctly) we ate and left. never getting our wine and not ordering dessert (which we always order bananas foster). so dissapointed. i guess this is what happens when some guys that run a chain wing joint try to go into the business of fine dining.

this place has gone slightly downhill. they used to be great at pleasing the customer and making sure their steaks were cooked perfectly and thefoodwas hot. we got the stuffed avocado and the middle was cold. first they gave us a new one...and it was cold, too. then they said well it is supposed to be cold on the inside. even though they brought us a new one because at first they said it was supposed to be hot all the way through. make up your mind. the waiters are a little snobby because they don't try to go out of their way to please the customer.

food's amazing. thefoodwas really amazing. i had a filet that was cooked to perfection. the truffle mashed potato was a perfect accompaniment. our table also shared a order of lobster mac and cheese also really good. i had no complaint about thefoodor the kitchen.foodwas out quickly and all of it was hot, juicy and tasty. my only criticism was the waiters inability to listen and put in the order correctly. i had ordered the filet with crab legs and instead was brought filet oscar. right ingrediance, wrong presentation. also ordered garlic mushrooms to go with meal, was brought stuffed mushrooms (a starter plate). during meal i asked the waiter for a wine list, never saw it. i will say they ended up buying two desserts for us but somewhat frustrating service experience. regarding the negative reviews of the food, i have eaten at many 4 and 5 star restaurants and thisfoodis on par with those restaurants. the negativefoodreviews ring like a ex-employee with sour grapes. thisfoodwas high quality and full of flavor.

still not good. this is my second review and the place still hasn't improved. my family and i made brunch reservations for 11:00. we ordered by 11:30. ourfooddidn't arrive until 1:15!!!!!!!!! it took almost two hours!!!! we complained repeatedly and all we got was the excuse that the kitchen was "slammed" but everybody around us was getting theirfoodquickly. i realize that every restaurant can make mistakes but the kitchen is slooooooow - consistently. our server was busy and frustrated - i don't blame him. my ribeye steak was nice and tasty, but everybody else didn't finish their meals because thefoodwas either cold or rubbery.

yuck. i've been forced to eat here a couple of times because some people i know like to "be seen" since this is a fancy, junior league kind of place. my husband and i have never ordered anything that we were happy with and thefoodis totally overpriced. service is sloooooooow. i didn't like it when it was named firewater cafe and i still don't like it now. their parent restaurant harrigan's is so much better.

fell short. for the type of people that this restaurant is supposed to cater to e.g. doctors, lawyers and that sort, thefoodisn't that great. at best i can say thefoodis slightly above average. we ordered an appetizer, two main course dishes, and a dessert. all of which were abysmal given the cost to satisfaction. i left the restaurant wanting something, anything that had some flavor.
