laneway

it can be tough finding a nice cafe to relax in for an early breakfast when spirit of tasmania arrives atdevonportaround 6:00am. depending on the day of the week, there are few options that serve this early in the morning, one of them being cafe squire as the nearest option around 450m away. but we are a bit more adventurous than that right? so we drove to laneway located on the other side across the river, still not too far considering it’s only 10mins away.

the only place indevonportwith vegan options! was so glad to find this place as it's very much like melbourne cafes. they have a separate vegan menu (you have to ask for it) which has a great selection apart from there's honey in things which means that most vegan can't order that anyway.  i've had the vegan breakfast (pictured) and it was delicious, all the things i loved. i've also tried the vegie burger but the patty was  just like mashed potato in a burger bun and was a bit bland which is sad because i wanted to love it. hopefully with a menu change they'll sort that out. but staff are fabulous, atmosphere is great and it's just so nice to find a place i can eat!

compared to melbournes brunch scene this was average but good fordevonport
cool vibe and standard breakfast options ,open for a good amount of hours so good to get a late brunch as well :)
coffee was okay and i ordered the salmon from the lunch menu which was nice

best coffee in devonport. ill never come throughdevonportwithout a breakfast here. excellent service, excellent produce, great menu.

the vegetarian delight. two poached eggs, multigrain sourdough, mushies, kale, avo and fetta, vege beans and hash brown

on one chilly and cloudy saturday morning, a girl friend took me to laneway cafe in devonport for brunch. it was one of the top rated cafes on urbanspoon. a cute and colourful sign pointed the way to the cafe. the cafe was hidden in a little alleyway, much like many of melbourne’s top cafes. needless to say, i was quite expectant. loved the exterior and interior...

the first proper meal we had in tasmania was at a quirky café called laneway,devonport, located just a short drive from the exit point of the spirit of tasmania. as we hadn't had any breakfast (half a banana does not count), we were so glad and relieved to discover that it was already open at 7:15am. the menu was quite limited, but somehow all five of us ended up ordering different dishes. i had the smashed avocado and feta on sourdough with eggs, plus pancetta as an add-on (you could have either that or roasted mushrooms). it was generally a nice dish, however i found the pancetta quite overpowering. the poached eggs were quite inconsistent across everyone's dishes as some centres were very soft and others quite firm. i felt that they could have been fluffier as well. for a drink, i had hot chocolate (there's not much else when you don't drink coffee, is there?) and it was awesome! hubby ordered the vegetarian breakfast, which was essentially the same as the big breakfast dish, only

trendy cafe.devonportcertainly needed a trendy hang out and laneway seems to have filled that void (and also paved the way for other small venues to open up in this coastal town). unfortunately, the quality of the coffee, food and service is inconsistent. it is great to see the owners supporting the locals by stocking and selling local produce i.e. cheeses, cured meats, condiments and alcohol etc.

staff and food lovely. i travel throughdevonportfor work, this place will definately be my new go-to place.

fantastic coffee, great eggs, great sour dough, very hip.. and indevonportas well.. a great way to flush that disgusting spirit of tasmania food out of ones system.. ;-)

brilliant coffee (i am a self confessed coffee snob). went a few times when visitingdevonporton recommendation from a local, every coffee was great & food was great also. you will not be disappointed

well worth a visit. i caught up with friends here today prior to heading to the airport for my trip home. great coffee - all of us ended up having two cups. there is an all-day breakfast menu plus a few lunch items. i had the avocado mashed with fetta on toast which came with a poached egg and crispy pancetta. my companions chose the eggs benedict with salmon and the ricotta hotcakes respectively. all three dishes were excellent.

that this gem exists indevonportis somewhat surprising, but it is a much needed addition to the north-west - and judging by the number of customers, the locals agree!

apparently they open at 7:30am so if you are coming off the ferry, head here for breakfast.
