the kula lodge was ok. the view is clearly the selling point. the ambiance and service is nice, however i don't think they match the prices andfoodquality. my ribeye was slightly overcooked and the $26 pizza came out very cold. however, i've definitely eaten at much worse places. for those exhausted and hungry individuals traveling to/from hana, i would stop to check out the view but eat elsewhere cheaper and more filling.

eat before heading up to haleakala crater - and not here!. we decided to get something to eat on our way to the haleakala crater. this is the onlyfoodstop for the next 30-40 some miles to the crater.

the place is weirdly quiet.

beautiful view - this is the only thing the restaurant offers.

we ordered a turkey sandwich - $18!!!! and the garlic pasta - $13

we waited a very long time for lunch for us being the third table in there. i just wanted to leave. we ate our lunch, which was alright.

overall - i paid almost $40 for lunch with tip. please eat lunch at home or somewhere else, otherwise you will blow your money!

(they have a little market-gift shop that was nice)

customer. thefoodhere is generally poor. breakfast is the best time, and when the pizza over is working, the pizzas are okay. the owner is known for being abusive to his staff and on christmas day his whole kitchen staff walked out.

stopped here on the way down from haleakala sunrise. it was really fast, which is what we wanted and the atmosphere was cozy. thefoodwas ok, had the veggie benedict. i'd keep it simple with eggs and bacon next time. overall the experience was good.

greatfoodand view. locals seem to go here to gossip. service seems to be better for them than tourists. wouldn't avoid, but not a first choice.

awful food, awful service: the only reason to come here is the view.... unfortunately, this used to be a family favorite back in the day. today, not at all. thefoodwas disgusting - how do you mess up basic breakfast food? service was appalling, server was rude and gave the impression that she did not even want to be working! food, juices, hot cocoa were sloppily made and delivered. very unprofessional wait staff - we were seated against the wall of windows and we could all hear them gossiping amongst one another near the kitchen. it's bad enough to make diners feel uncomfortable while you wait on them, but even more so to subject us to hearing about your personal matters! additionally, when i privately asked to speak with the manager, he seemed unaffected, unapologetic, and unconcerned. what a disappointing way to finish off a great trip up to haleakala for sunrise. really, the only reason you'd come here nowadays is to see the view. and if you've come from visiting haleakala or anywhere up in kula, you're not missing much. this is no longer the only place to dine in kula. there are other options that offer better service and superior food. and, for the record, i'm not a tourist. family and friends have also remarked about the decline in service andfoodquality at kula lodge. hope they get things straightened out.

the views the thing...... the reviews i read of the kula lodge were right on the money - go for the view, not the food. thefoodis ok (on an island with so many restaurants with fantastic food) but the view, especially at sunset, is amazing. my steak was correctly cooked, but was nothing spectacular and my husband's pizza was a bit lackluster. the veggies that came with the steak were oily and nearly unidentifiable. i ordered a mai tai (my only mai tai of the trip) which was pretty awful. but the view…..the view almost made up for the food. i'd recommend going on an off-night and ordering a beer or two and an appetizer.

like some others i found the service terrible but did notice that the other waiter working that night was much better. we had 'the young kid' who spent way more time bs'ing with kitchen staff than working. i found thefoodbland (shrimp on skewers) but my partners prime rib was ok. while it says you get a choice of starch and veggies we were offered neither choice and both had mushy eggplant and my partner received 6 very kuitems pieces of potato. i don't know how anyone can rate this place well for the price. i was so unhappy by the time we left bit no manager in sight to talk to.

breakfast was better than average. we had the raisin bread french toast (excellent) and the belgian waffles (just ok) and a side of potatoes (basically their hash browns... again just ok). the juices were not fresh... tasted more like a tang mix. the view was amazing of course. the waitress was slightly obnoxious and not particularly helpful. in fact, she vacuumed the floor all around our table as we were eating. it was almost as if we were just another customer. i know this place likely gets thousands of customers a month, but everyone still likes to be treated better than a fastfoodjoint. i would still recommend this place because of the view and the overall experience.

kula lodge is a restaurant (and small lodge and gift shop) in kula, the farming area of upcountry, on the slopes of haleakala volcano. it's on the haleakala highway (route 377), at 3200 feet elevation, just before the start of route 378, the winding road up to the top of the volcano. phone 808-878-1535. thefoodand the view at kula lodge are very good. but there is often a wait to be seated, and service can be painfully s-l-o-w. see below for some menu items and photos. if you're not in a rush,

heavenly breakfast. we stopped at the kula lodge for breakfast on our bike ride down from the haleakala summit. considering the amount of bike tourist traffic the kula lodge sees, i didn't expect a quality breakfast or happy service. we were ravenous so they could have shovelledfoodat us and we would have been satisfied.

we were in for an unexpected surprise. the breakfast was delicious, full of choices and made with quality. our party indulged in a range from the special chocolate chip pancakes to the old hawaiian breakfast standby, loco moco. it was all delicious!

the restaurant has gorgeous scenery and the service was fantastic. i look forward to getting back again soon.
