the kula lodge was ok. the view is clearly the selling point. the ambiance and service is nice, however i don't think they match the prices and food quality. my ribeye was slightly overcooked and the $26 pizza came out very cold. however, i've definitely eaten at much worse places. for those exhausted and hungry individuals traveling to/from hana, i would stop to check out the view but eat elsewhere cheaper and more filling.

funghi and truffle are stacked on delicate thin style crusts then melted and crisped in the great artisan brick outdoor oven.

super cozy place with the best views of the island!!! true to it's name, the decor of this place is like a beautiful wooden lodge, complete with a fireplace.

good place for a hearty breakfast, waffles and the hot chocolate is to die for.. absolutely stunning views of maui.. peaceful and serene place to grab a meal in the tiny village of kula.

kula lodge is a restaurant (and small lodge and gift shop) in kula, the farming area of upcountry, on the slopes of haleakala volcano.  it’s on the haleakala highway (route 377), at 3200 feet elevation, just before the start of route 378, the winding road up to the top of the volcano.  phone 808-878-1535.

despite other reviews- an outstanding breakfast with great service. every last bit of my omelette with local chili and onions was flavorful without going spicy. even the potato side with herbs and paprika was astoundingly good. our server nicole was attentive and even helped us move tables when a window front table opened up. we arrived at 1030 after a visit to the mountain so perhaps timing is everything.

think twice. ceasar salad very good. fried anchovies great idea. however, reuben sandwich very dry, lacking enough dressing and sauerkraut to make a proper rueben. wilted spinach salad and ravioli totally without flavor and oil on oil on oil. would not recommend lunch here. total waste of a time and finances. we love food, and this ain't it.

eat before heading up to haleakala crater - and not here!. we decided to get something to eat on our way to the haleakala crater. this is the only food stop for the next 30-40 some miles to the crater.

the place is weirdly quiet.

beautiful view - this is the only thing the restaurant offers.

we ordered a turkey sandwich - $18!!!! and the garlic pasta - $13

we waited a very long time for lunch for us being the third table in there. i just wanted to leave. we ate our lunch, which was alright.

overall - i paid almost $40 for lunch with tip. please eat lunch at home or somewhere else, otherwise you will blow your money!

(they have a little market-gift shop that was nice)

customer. the food here is generally poor. breakfast is the best time, and when the pizza over is working, the pizzas are okay. the owner is known for being abusive to his staff and on christmas day his whole kitchen staff walked out.

stopped here on the way down from haleakala sunrise. it was really fast, which is what we wanted and the atmosphere was cozy. the food was ok, had the veggie benedict. i'd keep it simple with eggs and bacon next time. overall the experience was good.

we've lived on maui almost 20 years and have gone to kula lodge a handful of times. it really seems to be hit or miss. some times it's really good (food and service) and some times it's really not. we continue to go, but not regularly for this reason. dishes seem to change each time we go as if they keep changing chefs that make a dish their way. for example, the margarita pizza usually uses large tomato slices, but recently it was made with grape tomatoes. not the end of the world, but not my preference. my husband's ruban was left under the heater waaaay too long and killed it (bread and meat were entirely dried out). we had poor service (no water refills). again, i'm sure we'll continue to go, but we just always hope we catch them on a good day.

great food and view. locals seem to go here to gossip. service seems to be better for them than tourists. wouldn't avoid, but not a first choice.

awful food, awful service: the only reason to come here is the view.... unfortunately, this used to be a family favorite back in the day. today, not at all. the food was disgusting - how do you mess up basic breakfast food? service was appalling, server was rude and gave the impression that she did not even want to be working! food, juices, hot cocoa were sloppily made and delivered. very unprofessional wait staff - we were seated against the wall of windows and we could all hear them gossiping amongst one another near the kitchen. it's bad enough to make diners feel uncomfortable while you wait on them, but even more so to subject us to hearing about your personal matters! additionally, when i privately asked to speak with the manager, he seemed unaffected, unapologetic, and unconcerned. what a disappointing way to finish off a great trip up to haleakala for sunrise. really, the only reason you'd come here nowadays is to see the view. and if you've come from visiting haleakala or anywhere up in kula, you're not missing much. this is no longer the only place to dine in kula. there are other options that offer better service and superior food. and, for the record, i'm not a tourist. family and friends have also remarked about the decline in service and food quality at kula lodge. hope they get things straightened out.
