good food, good service. my wife and i had brunch at kramer's on saturday. we were seated right away. i normally eat a lite breakfast so i had just the grits and the corn fritters. both were great. the only problem was there was a smell of garbage (not from this restaurant), so next time we will probably dine in.

wonderful breakfast spot!. stopped in here for quick breakfast and had a wonderful experience. the breakfast selection is full of interesting choices and specials. i ordered the soho omelet and it was delectable. the eggs were nicely fluffy and the fillings were delicious -- spinach (soft and fresh), bacon (slightly thicker cut and crispy) and swiss cheese (warm and full of stretchy goodness). next time i may have to try one of their three eggs benedict. the staff were attentive and very friendly and kept the coffee coming. they have outside seating and the front opens to make the cafe very airy on a nice spring day! what more could you ask for a nice breakfast.

beware.... it's hard to believe that as of today (may 28, 2009), this restaurant is #19 on urbanspoon's top restaurant list. are you kidding me?

i'm literally afraid to eat at kramerbooks & afterwords cafe. seriously. the few times i have eaten there the silverware (not to mention the restroom) was filthy, the nachos were disgusting, and the service was atrocious. although the desserts are good, you couldn't pay me to eat there, which is too bad because i am actually a fan of kramerbooks bookstore!

beware.

a perfect place for avid readers and foodies.. i recommend getting the fettuccine new orleans. it's really good! it's mixed with shrimp, chicken breast, pork sausage, onions, peppers, and scallions. it's $14, which isn't too bad. my friend got the misko sake salmon salad, which she enjoyed. we didn't have to wait too long for our food, and the service was pretty good.

after we finished our food, we went to take a look through their book selection. they have a great selection of books, but they don't have a big selection of magazines.

a little fyi: when you go to the bathroom, you have to ask the restaurant employees for a token. it is used for opening the door.

super cool breakfast spot connected to a bookstore! i had the spinach omelette that was oowiegooie with cheese, fresh spinach, and smoked bacon. the ambience was really college campus-ish. i really recommend stopping by after a morning run or stroll.

food is always good and it’s served in a relaxed...space – sort of the brass, potted fern look of the late 70s and early 80s when eating out was fun, rather than a habit or a religion.

interesting place, a cafe within a restaurant or a restaurant within a cafe, it all depends upon which door you enter. pasta dish is a must and the peach cobbler is tasty.

touring the neighborhood around dupont circle, my kids and i stumbled upon kramerbooks & afterwords cafe on connecticut street in washington, d.c.

kids were hungry and we seated ourselves on the outside covered patio. too late for lunch - too early for dinner, we decided upon appetizers. hicham was our server.

pow pow chicken (appetizer) for me - which is simply pow pow chicken with toasted peanuts and cilantro at $12.00; and macaroni and cheese (appetizer) for each of my three kids - which is simply macaroni and cheese with white cheddar sauce, elbow macaroni, and a bread crumb topping at $10.00 each. water as our beverage. total price with tax was $46.20.

food was timely prepared and very tasty. kids had no complaint and ate everything on their plate. the bread crumb topping was a delightful addition for my twins as they never get that at home when mom makes macaroni and cheese. as for the pow pow chicken, you could taste the heat and savor the sweetness. as an appetizer, i enjoyed it.

outside patio was well kept and clean. the cafe wasn't that busy when we arrived but started to pick up as we left. hicham - our server - was friendly and polite. prices were competitive and not offensive.

interesting little place - wish we had more time to check out the book store itself.

they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. to live up to that, my cousin told me that he had the perfect place in mind.
this place is my cousin’s favourite and after eating here, i figured out why. i started my day at kramerbooks & afterwords where i had a very delicious corned beef hash & eggs. with a bottomless brew on the side, i was content. the service here is fantastic as the staff are warm and courteous.
my breakfast (technically their brunch) came on a skillet filled with the beef along with two perfectly poached eggs on top. a small slit into the egg made it flow out into the dish and my gosh, it tasted awesome!
overall, this meal was so satisfying and filling that i had my next meal only past 11pm.
if you love reading, they have a great bookstore at the back and if you’re in the mood for a drink, their pub will definitely not disappoint.

love the crab pasta. it was awesome. we kind of missed it because in the front its a bookstore and in the back its a restaurant. however customer service could have been a little more up beat on the servicing time frame and new the menu more, since we were visiting washington. we would have like to know more about what's good on the menu.

a perfect place for avid readers and foodies.we didn't have to wait too long for our food, and the service was pretty good.i appreciate the level of detail this restaurant takes. for example, the serve soda out of a bottle to ensure fresh taste. good place to catch a great dinner. the service was exceptional, as was the food. steak was beautifully cooked, ribs fell off the bone, cornbread is heavenly.

this is a weird place. it's a restaurant at the back of a book store. i visited this restaurant solely on reviews and was pleasantly surprised. dinner was great and this is one of a few places that was open late on a week night. my favorite part of the meal was my manhattan made with apricot jam.

menu has good variety but not a whole lot of choices. soho omelet was very good and hubby liked chicken pot pie. i will return just to browse thru the bookshelves!
