loved it!!!. the bookstore has everything, and love the set up. a perfect place to wait for a table. loved the set up of tables, and the waitstaff were sweet and very patient. the food was amazing and very, very delicious. also, the fresh orange juice and pastries were perfect! can't wait to come back!!! thank you!

best place to read, eat, and drink any time. this place is a staple in nw dc. the food and drink are tasty, they're open later than most places, and they are a bookstore as well. if it were possible to live in this place i would. whenever i visit dc this is a spot i try to go back to.

bad service to all*. been here a few times and each time i want to like but the staff seem terribly bothered by us customers, especially if you aren't familiar with the maze that is their layout or try to order the wrong thing in the wrong place. if you can tolerate the service, the goober pie will melt your frustration away with the perfect blend of creamy peanut butter and chocolate fudge. *to the reviewer who suggested they aren't pleasant to "black folk," i can assure you they aren't pleasant to any folk, including white folk like myself.

not for the handicapped. i am not in a wheelchair and luckily have use of both of my legs. you wouldn't want to try to squeeze a wheelchair into this place.

too packed. no elbow room and food isn't worth it. i went for lunch when there wasn't a wait. i can't believe people would wait for a table here. i won't even go back, let alone wait.

what makes kramerbooks & afterwords cafe such a great place to go (at least for me) is that they combine two of my favorite things, books and good food! seriously, how can you beat that? another great thing about them is that both sections of the store/re

worth the wait. found this on this site when looking for a breakfast on the way to downtown. neat little place, and was very busy on a sunday morning (a good sign in my book). bustle-y and tight -- do not expect to have private conversation -- with a brunch deal with oj and tasty little poppyseed muffins included.

good food and large portions (i never leave good food, but did this time), maybe even slightly too large if i had to make a call.

got a crabcake and asparagus benedict and my only complaint is that the egg was truly poached, so a little wet in spots. most places "hard poach" automatically, so that is on me for not asking as much as on them. the crabcake was real lump crab as advertised, which is not common for "just a breakfast" place, and very good.

wandering out, there is also a great little bar with around a dozen eclectic beers on tap, from common stuff like stella and new castle to local brews and off-the-wall treats like brooklyn brewery black chocolate stout, rogue dead guy, and abita turbodog. though it was around 11 am and i was obviously not stopping to drink, the bartender offered a sample of fordham light lager when i mentioned i'd never heard of it.

overall, a nice little find, but if you want fast service, go when they're not busy.

"not quite what i've been looking for"

i wanted to enjoy kramerbooks, i really did. i can appreciate the bookstore-cum-cafe concept, but i don't like how it was executed here. while the bookstore is fun to browse, i've found the cafe to be cramped and impersonal, a situation which could probably be remedied by the purchase of some new furniture. next time i'm in town, i'll take a peek and give kramerbooks another chance to wow me.
