kooky canuck

my husband and u are from martin tn, in town for business and we have tried several locations in the memphis area and everywhere we have been except kooky canuck has been terrible!!!!


we are district manager of a breakfast chain, and i will tell you this... if i could come across even one manager like jen... i'd be set and never have to worry about that location again. if i could come across servers like toya and mallory... it would be a blessing.

to start we informed mallory who was our server how awful theservicehas been each place we have went.
we were told about this location by an employee of ours who was insistent that we try the $5 drinks on tuesday.

mallory was very very informative, very helpful. she was perky and happy, and never skipped a beat in her service.

the steaks that we ordered were cooked to perfection!!!!!!!! that is hard to do when you ask for med and med rare apparently but kooky got it right!!

toya, another server .. we witnessed having a hard time with a large party (that just so happened to include the employee who referred us to this location) and she did amazingly well.

the atmosphere was perfect... very very friendly... the servers and the manager both took time out of their night to conversate with us and i can definitely tell why this is where other members of theserviceindustry go when they get off work.

place was clean.. high energy...

and as my own cook said when we sent him a picture of the steak cooked to perfection

"can we all have a moment of silence for an establishment who finally knows what the heck they are doing"

i wish i lived closer but every time i come to memphis i know where i will be dining!! thank you so very much to all the staff at kooky canuck for everything you did to give us an exceptional experience last night.

this place is awesome greatserviceand even better food! they have a great menu and they also have a surprisingly good selection of craft beer. if i'm in memphis this is where i'll be eating at hands down.

they have interesting lunch menu, that's the only time i go there. surprisingly, you can find some healthy options in their lunch menu for health conscious folks like me such as grilled chicken/fish with veggies. but largely, they are known for their kookamonga burger challenge and their burgers. if you don't care much about the calories, you will find a ton of good options there.
overall, i like their food,serviceis okay, and i would definitely consider it one of the better lunch places in downtown memphis.

came here after a grizzlies game and loved it. great burgers and salads, fun drinks, and friendlyservice(thank you, sonia!) we'd especially recommend the steak and potato soup, the memphis burger, and the sweet potato fries - definitely worth coming back for!

i tried they failed. i ordered kooky tenders strawberry jalapeño flavor..they came out dry meaning there was hardly any sauce on them. the chicken was tough as though it was over-cooked. this was a total disappointment because i love these tenders and they haven't been right for over a year. the only redeeming quality about this order was the peach cobbler which was missing something flavor wise. it just tastes different than it usually does but was just okay. this isn't what i was hoping to eat after driving from east memphis. i don't know what's going on at this restaurant. i fell in love with them in 2009 & they have now turned into the place where i would send my enemies to dine. please make a comeback in the kitchen or take strawberry jalapeño flavor off the menu.

love the food hate the service. i love the strawberry jalapeño sauce for the kooky tenders, the chicken caesar salad, the french fries and above all the selection of crown royal. what i hate is the service. i work downtown and have an awesome experience there when ordering on my lunch break eating at the bar. however whenever i go with friends theserviceis terrible. last night we had a table of six i asked the waitress to bring more napkins and she thumbed through the 3 napkins on the table and asked "is that not enough?" i have never been questioned about what i ask for from a restaurant. neither has a server touched something on the table after intially putting it down or picking it up. this was offensive. on a different occasion i was there with 1 other person and we ordered the great maple flank steak as each of our main course. it was awful and tough. but mine came to the table first. my friend saw this & decided he wanted to cancel and order something else. apparently this prompted a visit from the manager on duty who said "you all have ordered a lot of food. i don't want to make something else and you don't want it." mind you this is the only item that was refused. that is not a conversation for the customer and the manager. if the customer orders it bring it to the table. needless to say i will only frequent them for pickups and go down the street to flying saucer where they know how to treat you regardless of the time you come in.

my first time. so my fiancée had kept saying that there was this great burger place in downtown memphis. he had been there once before with his daughter & son -in law. so today i suggested we go out for a burger. first of all parking can be a challenge in downtown memphis, but lucky for us we found the perfect spot very close.
there were a few people in and plenty of open tables for a sunday afternoon. the hostess wanted to put us all the way in the back but i told her we were waiting for a friend and we would like to sit up front by the window so our friend could see us.

our server sara was very friendly and took our drink order, we wanted to try one of the local beers on the menu but was told the drink menu a little outdated , no problem we ended getting one of our favorite beers. so our friend arrives and we each order a different burger. i ordered the memphis best burger with the trimmings on the side and medium rare. my fiancée ordered the canadian burger also medium rare & our friend ordered the bacon bleu cheese burger also medium rare. we waited about 15 minutes for our food, they looked awesome but once we all cut into our three different burgers they were all over cooked not medium rare at all. but the burgers were moist & juicy and the flavors were there, so we overlooked the fact they were over cooked. oh the sunny side up egg on my memphis best burger was slightly undercooked as well.

when our server sara checked on us we told her everything tasted good but they were defiantly over cooked. she apologized but we said it was ok cause they tasted good. so when she brought our check she had taken 25% off our bill plus had charged me for a build your own burger instead of the memphis burger since it was cheaper that way. so all in all theservicewas great & the food was great. so i would go back again.

total disappointment. i've been wanting to try kooky canuck for a while based on some good reviews and the best memphis burger blog rated it very highly.
that's where the good stops.
we started our meal with a bloody mary and an order of fried green tomatoes. the bloody mary was tasty but then i realized they use zing zang for the mix. yes zing zang is a very good mix but i can buy zing zang at the grocery and make the same drink much cheaper at home.
next came our fried green tomatoes. a meager serving for $8.00 and they weren't even freshly fried. (see photo.)
now the reason for the visit was to try the four cheese burger. a burger praised on the "best memphis burger" blog as a "perfectly cooked medium masterpiece." wow, i wish i had his burger. mine was overcooked, cold and the cheeses were no where near melting. i barely ate a third of it before giving up through disappointment. the fries served with the burger were really good. at least one saving grace to the meal.
my companions bleu cheese burger was cooked to medium as requested but still not served warm. she said the flavor was good but not what she hoped for.
theservicewas friendly but inattentive and clumsy. near the end of our meal the server walked by and placed a second bloody mary before me. i said "i didn't order this." he said "sorry, it's on me then." kind of the i don't care attitude that displayed the whole experience.
too bad, very disappointing overall.

great burgers. was in town staying at the peabody, (great hotel) at convention. ventured out for quick lunch close to hotel and found kooky canucks. great atmosphere, quickserviceand awesome burgers. had the younge burger my favorite and the catfish burger also outstanding. our server sonia from portugal was awesome.

keep up the great work. consider franchising the concept. would definately frequent locations if i knew they were in areas visiting.

greatserviceand food. we ate here on a saturday with a party of four. our server was very attentive and extremely nice. the food was great! we would love to eat here again!

awsome place to eat for lunch or dinner. my family and i went downtown for lunch and decided to go to kooky canucks for lunch. we have been there many times before and we jave never been disappointed with there food.the orders are always r ight and very tasty. today my 4year decided he wanted a flag on his hamburger and our waitress jobeth said she would see what she could do and low and behold he had a flag on his hamburger. jobeth is a awsome waitress where else could you go and the waitress is going to go out of her way to make a 4 year old happy instead of just saying she didnt have one. besides the great food theserviceis awsome. thankyou jobeth.

the food andservicewere great!

not worth it, even if it's the only late night food you can find. a group of us went there for some late night food and were sorely disappointed. the beer had been obviously watered down. we had all ordered differently but essentially all received thinned out bud light. the food was lackluster. myself and another did not feel well the following day, and it wasn't a heavy party night, the food was just that bad. and theservicewasn't stellar either.

memphis trip. we really like kooky canuck! only about a 5 minute wait and we had been told 10-15. my wife had the 4 cheeseburger, she really liked it. i had the prime rib sandwich and it was great! theservicewas very good...probably the bestservicewe've had on our visit! watched a couple of guys take the huge burger challenge. one guy came close and left before the others finished! fun place to go for the whole family!

overrated and overhyped. hamburger was good but nothing amazing.servicewas weak, and messed up my order. not a bad place - just not as great as the websites and blogs think it is (perhaps memphis people have low expectations?)
