awesome desserts, cocktails too big!. kooky canuck recently became a favourite of my crowd and the reason i attribute is the presence of novelty desserts. i have tried both a 'kooky cookie a la mode' - which you almost certainly will need two friends to finish; i managed it alone and i'm not proud - and the s'mores - standard fare but with the added excitement of a 'campfire' (a small burner brought to the table); also feeds more than one!

entreefoodwas pretty standard for memphis - i had a grilled chicken sandwich and it was good, but nothing special. this seemed true of everyone's meals. unfortunately, they don't seem to have much in the way of lighterfood- and you'll need a small salad if you want to finish those desserts.

strangely, and i've never complained about this before, the cocktails were far too big. 34 oz is a lot for a cocktail - mostly ice and don't think you'll be able to carry it around with you; it spent most of the time firmly planted on the table as i couldn't lift it. put in less ice and have a smaller cocktail!

overall a good experience, though. not sure about the deer heads on the walls..!

me and my family went to kooky canuck downtown memphis tonight and it was the most horrible experience i've had in a long time. once we were seated and finally waited on we were told by the waitress "let me get this out the way first before you order we don't have any chicken and only pepsi products" now whats to drink and they were out of every beverage except pepsi, dr. pepper, and tea so i order dr.pepper it was flat so then i order pepsi it was also flat but i said what the hell cause i'm not really a fan of either. i asked the waitress for my beverage to be in a to go cup but instead i was given it in a glass and a to go cup was given to me to pour myself. my kids nor anyone at the table ever got refills nor were they asked. and thefoodwas dry, over cooked and extremely salty. i also ordered the pear salad with chicken in which it was brought to me with no chicken then he came out later with the chicken, after being so disappointed with the salty salty chicken strips and cheese bits i decided to taste my salad in which i noticed a gnat flying in it i tried to yell for the waitress but she was running around. she finally came to the table and i let her know that i hadn't ate any of the salad and didn't want it i just wanted the receipt so we could go, she then stated to me she had to get a manager cause she not allowed to remove items from the receipt. the manager came and i let her know i didn't want the salad and hadn't eaten none of it and why when she states " you didn't complain before you asked for the receipt" in which i stated to her " are you crazy hunny i have no problems paying for myfoodand is very capable of doing so. i paid a 152.00 forfoodthat was uneatable and poor poor service. i will never ever go there again nor recommend any one to.

kooky canuck - a new memphis icon. it sure took me long enough to get down there and try it out. i've read every review and blog post about it. i've seen the man vs.foodepisode a million times. finally..... i went. i'm now happy to consider it among one of the places in memphis you can't miss. it is so unique and such an experience to eat here.

good budget option. not the greatest food, but it isn't terrible either. i've had the burgers, sandwiches, and a few other items, and they're all middle-of-the-road. the burgers at hueys are much better, but you'll be very tight on space there and have to nearly yell at your friend or date for communication. kooky's burgers (andfoodoverall) isn't nearly as good, but you don't feel cramped and it's just a more friendly atmosphere. if i just want a burger or sandwich before a game without spending a ton of money, i'll often choose kooky for this reason alone.

i tried they failed. i ordered kooky tenders strawberry jalapeño flavor..they came out dry meaning there was hardly any sauce on them. the chicken was tough as though it was over-cooked. this was a total disappointment because i love these tenders and they haven't been right for over a year. the only redeeming quality about this order was the peach cobbler which was missing something flavor wise. it just tastes different than it usually does but was just okay. this isn't what i was hoping to eat after driving from east memphis. i don't know what's going on at this restaurant. i fell in love with them in 2009 & they have now turned into the place where i would send my enemies to dine. please make a comeback in the kitchen or take strawberry jalapeño flavor off the menu.

love thefoodhate the service. i love the strawberry jalapeño sauce for the kooky tenders, the chicken caesar salad, the french fries and above all the selection of crown royal. what i hate is the service. i work downtown and have an awesome experience there when ordering on my lunch break eating at the bar. however whenever i go with friends the service is terrible. last night we had a table of six i asked the waitress to bring more napkins and she thumbed through the 3 napkins on the table and asked "is that not enough?" i have never been questioned about what i ask for from a restaurant. neither has a server touched something on the table after intially putting it down or picking it up. this was offensive. on a different occasion i was there with 1 other person and we ordered the great maple flank steak as each of our main course. it was awful and tough. but mine came to the table first. my friend saw this & decided he wanted to cancel and order something else. apparently this prompted a visit from the manager on duty who said "you all have ordered a lot of food. i don't want to make something else and you don't want it." mind you this is the only item that was refused. that is not a conversation for the customer and the manager. if the customer orders it bring it to the table. needless to say i will only frequent them for pickups and go down the street to flying saucer where they know how to treat you regardless of the time you come in.

my first time. so my fiancée had kept saying that there was this great burger place in downtown memphis. he had been there once before with his daughter & son -in law. so today i suggested we go out for a burger. first of all parking can be a challenge in downtown memphis, but lucky for us we found the perfect spot very close.
there were a few people in and plenty of open tables for a sunday afternoon. the hostess wanted to put us all the way in the back but i told her we were waiting for a friend and we would like to sit up front by the window so our friend could see us.

our server sara was very friendly and took our drink order, we wanted to try one of the local beers on the menu but was told the drink menu a little outdated , no problem we ended getting one of our favorite beers. so our friend arrives and we each order a different burger. i ordered the memphis best burger with the trimmings on the side and medium rare. my fiancée ordered the canadian burger also medium rare & our friend ordered the bacon bleu cheese burger also medium rare. we waited about 15 minutes for our food, they looked awesome but once we all cut into our three different burgers they were all over cooked not medium rare at all. but the burgers were moist & juicy and the flavors were there, so we overlooked the fact they were over cooked. oh the sunny side up egg on my memphis best burger was slightly undercooked as well.

when our server sara checked on us we told her everything tasted good but they were defiantly over cooked. she apologized but we said it was ok cause they tasted good. so when she brought our check she had taken 25% off our bill plus had charged me for a build your own burger instead of the memphis burger since it was cheaper that way. so all in all the service was great & thefoodwas great. so i would go back again.

exquisite!. thefoodwas very good, but our server ne-ne was amazing. she took the time to explain about thefoodeating competitions because we were very interested. she even brought out pictures and the large buns to show us how big the 12 pound burgers were. she was very sociable and pleasant, and she seemed to really enjoy her job. we really enjoyed our trip and we will definitely come again!

jeff and i ate here on a saturday with some friends who live in memphis.  our friends chose this restaurant for us because they follow this blog and know the type offoodthat we like to eat.  they did an excellent job in their selection of this restaurant.  man vs.foodfilmed a show here when the restaurant was called big foot lodge. the name had to be changed due to a lawsuit.  adam took what was then called the the sasquatch challenge.  it is now called the kookamonga challenge.  the challenge is eating a four pound burger in 60 minutes. adam lost. we started our meal with an appetizer.  we chose the pick 3 kooky combo. our three were the fried pickles, buffalo tenders and bbq egg rolls.  the appetizer was delicious. bbq egg rolls, fried pickles and buffalo tenders i chose the yonge street burger.  it has two burgers, american cheese, grilled onions and mushrooms and bacon along with their signature sauce.  the burger was delicious.  i loved the signature sauce as well as the grill
