awesome desserts, cocktails too big!. kooky canuck recently became a favourite of my crowd and the reason i attribute is the presence of novelty desserts. i have tried both a 'kooky cookie a la mode' - which you almost certainly will need two friends to finish; i managed it alone and i'm not proud - and the s'mores - standard fare but with the added excitement of a 'campfire' (a small burner brought to the table); also feeds more than one!

entree food was pretty standard formemphis- i had a grilled chicken sandwich and it was good, but nothing special. this seemed true of everyone's meals. unfortunately, they don't seem to have much in the way of lighter food - and you'll need a small salad if you want to finish those desserts.

strangely, and i've never complained about this before, the cocktails were far too big. 34 oz is a lot for a cocktail - mostly ice and don't think you'll be able to carry it around with you; it spent most of the time firmly planted on the table as i couldn't lift it. put in less ice and have a smaller cocktail!

overall a good experience, though. not sure about the deer heads on the walls..!

me and my family went to kooky canuck downtownmemphistonight and it was the most horrible experience i've had in a long time. once we were seated and finally waited on we were told by the waitress "let me get this out the way first before you order we don't have any chicken and only pepsi products" now whats to drink and they were out of every beverage except pepsi, dr. pepper, and tea so i order dr.pepper it was flat so then i order pepsi it was also flat but i said what the hell cause i'm not really a fan of either. i asked the waitress for my beverage to be in a to go cup but instead i was given it in a glass and a to go cup was given to me to pour myself. my kids nor anyone at the table ever got refills nor were they asked. and the food was dry, over cooked and extremely salty. i also ordered the pear salad with chicken in which it was brought to me with no chicken then he came out later with the chicken, after being so disappointed with the salty salty chicken strips and cheese bits i decided to taste my salad in which i noticed a gnat flying in it i tried to yell for the waitress but she was running around. she finally came to the table and i let her know that i hadn't ate any of the salad and didn't want it i just wanted the receipt so we could go, she then stated to me she had to get a manager cause she not allowed to remove items from the receipt. the manager came and i let her know i didn't want the salad and hadn't eaten none of it and why when she states " you didn't complain before you asked for the receipt" in which i stated to her " are you crazy hunny i have no problems paying for my food and is very capable of doing so. i paid a 152.00 for food that was uneatable and poor poor service. i will never ever go there again nor recommend any one to.

my travels have taken me to memphis, where i stumbled upon the big foot lodge on a sunday night in early january. hungry from a day on the road and needing a little comfort food, i crawled in. don't let the restaurant's rustic decor fool you. this is a relative new entry to thememphiseatery scene, but i think it's here to stay.

my husband and u are from martin tn, in town for business and we have tried several locations in thememphisarea and everywhere we have been except kooky canuck has been terrible!!!!

we are district manager of a breakfast chain, and i will tell you this... if i could come across even one manager like jen... i'd be set and never have to worry about that location again. if i could come across servers like toya and mallory... it would be a blessing.

to start we informed mallory who was our server how awful the service has been each place we have went.
we were told about this location by an employee of ours who was insistent that we try the $5 drinks on tuesday.

mallory was very very informative, very helpful. she was perky and happy, and never skipped a beat in her service.

the steaks that we ordered were cooked to perfection!!!!!!!! that is hard to do when you ask for med and med rare apparently but kooky got it right!!

toya, another server .. we witnessed having a hard time with a large party (that just so happened to include the employee who referred us to this location) and she did amazingly well.

the atmosphere was perfect... very very friendly... the servers and the manager both took time out of their night to conversate with us and i can definitely tell why this is where other members of the service industry go when they get off work.

place was clean.. high energy...

and as my own cook said when we sent him a picture of the steak cooked to perfection

"can we all have a moment of silence for an establishment who finally knows what the heck they are doing"

i wish i lived closer but every time i come tomemphisi know where i will be dining!! thank you so very much to all the staff at kooky canuck for everything you did to give us an exceptional experience last night.

came here after a grizzlies game and loved it. great burgers and salads, fun drinks, and friendly service (thank you, sonia!) we'd especially recommend the steak and potato soup, thememphisburger, and the sweet potato fries - definitely worth coming back for!

suprising. i went into this not expecting much and walked away very happy. there were a few stumbles, but overall the food was very good. the atmosphere was upbeat and the wait staff attentive. place was packed. wait time for food was reasonable. overall a thumbs up.

my first time. so my fiancée had kept saying that there was this great burger place in downtown memphis. he had been there once before with his daughter & son -in law. so today i suggested we go out for a burger. first of all parking can be a challenge in downtown memphis, but lucky for us we found the perfect spot very close.
there were a few people in and plenty of open tables for a sunday afternoon. the hostess wanted to put us all the way in the back but i told her we were waiting for a friend and we would like to sit up front by the window so our friend could see us.

our server sara was very friendly and took our drink order, we wanted to try one of the local beers on the menu but was told the drink menu a little outdated , no problem we ended getting one of our favorite beers. so our friend arrives and we each order a different burger. i ordered thememphisbest burger with the trimmings on the side and medium rare. my fiancée ordered the canadian burger also medium rare & our friend ordered the bacon bleu cheese burger also medium rare. we waited about 15 minutes for our food, they looked awesome but once we all cut into our three different burgers they were all over cooked not medium rare at all. but the burgers were moist & juicy and the flavors were there, so we overlooked the fact they were over cooked. oh the sunny side up egg on mymemphisbest burger was slightly undercooked as well.

when our server sara checked on us we told her everything tasted good but they were defiantly over cooked. she apologized but we said it was ok cause they tasted good. so when she brought our check she had taken 25% off our bill plus had charged me for a build your own burger instead of thememphisburger since it was cheaper that way. so all in all the service was great & the food was great. so i would go back again.

total disappointment. i've been wanting to try kooky canuck for a while based on some good reviews and the bestmemphisburger blog rated it very highly.
that's where the good stops.
we started our meal with a bloody mary and an order of fried green tomatoes. the bloody mary was tasty but then i realized they use zing zang for the mix. yes zing zang is a very good mix but i can buy zing zang at the grocery and make the same drink much cheaper at home.
next came our fried green tomatoes. a meager serving for $8.00 and they weren't even freshly fried. (see photo.)
now the reason for the visit was to try the four cheese burger. a burger praised on the "bestmemphisburger" blog as a "perfectly cooked medium masterpiece." wow, i wish i had his burger. mine was overcooked, cold and the cheeses were no where near melting. i barely ate a third of it before giving up through disappointment. the fries served with the burger were really good. at least one saving grace to the meal.
my companions bleu cheese burger was cooked to medium as requested but still not served warm. she said the flavor was good but not what she hoped for.
the service was friendly but inattentive and clumsy. near the end of our meal the server walked by and placed a second bloody mary before me. i said "i didn't order this." he said "sorry, it's on me then." kind of the i don't care attitude that displayed the whole experience.
too bad, very disappointing overall.

miserable. i have eaten here on several occasions and never particularly cared for the food or service. but it is a family friendly restaurant downtown (which is hard to come by unless you want hueys) and i was with my husband and son. we got there at 5:30 on a thursday night, expecting be out of there in plenty of time to spare to make the redbirds game at 7:05.
we were seated immediately, the server came within a few minutes and took our drink order. we went ahead and ordered the poutine cheese fries. the cheese fries were out in less than 2-3 minutes. they tasted good, it was not a very large portion, which was ok for the 3 of us. we gave our entree order to the waiter at 5:45. my husband ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with turnip greens, i ordered thememphis"best" burger with blue cheese mashed potatoes, and my son ordered the kids hotdog with green beans. so around 6 pm, the waiter (who never told us his name) says it "should be done in just a few minutes". 6:10.. 6:20... 6:30.. no food. so he comes back to the table at 6:30 and says "there's just a few more tickets ahead of you". by this time, all the people around us had gotten their food even though they arrived long after us. we asked to speak to the manager, who also did not introduce himself. he apologized and said the waiter forgot to put it in. he said he would "take care of it" for us. about 6:45, the food rolled out. my burger patty was falling apart, missing the bbq onions, and was so soggy i had to eat it with a fork. my husband's chicken sandwich was very overdone and a small piece of chicken. the turnip greens and blue cheese mashed potatoes were good.
we literally inhaled the food so we could get over to the stadium. when the waiter brought the check, it was for 32 something dollars. the manager only took off 25% and it was listed as "police discount". what a slap in the face to a customer and quite frankly also the police. i am sick and tired of giving this place another chance. never ever again.

overrated and overhyped. hamburger was good but nothing amazing. service was weak, and messed up my order. not a bad place - just not as great as the websites and blogs think it is (perhapsmemphispeople have low expectations?)
