the mai tai was large, stout, & tasty. theporkchop was tasteless, tough, & dry. there was some chimichurri sauce & sliced mushrooms, carrots, & potatoes (perhaps an eight of a cup worth total) also lacking in flavor, hard, & dry. the hit of the meal was the (haiwaia) rolls with whipped butter & macadamian nuts.

the service here is awesome! we had the best waiter at this restaurant of our whole vacation. he was attentive, provided suggestions, and good conversation.

the only reason i am not giving it a perfect score is that i wasn't overly impressed with their sushi. i had the california luau roll, it needs some sort of sauce to add more flavor. pineapple, avocado, crab, and rice surprisingly weren't very flavorful.

we also tried the the steamedporkbuns and pot stickers. i've had steamedporkbuns before and there were just as tasty. there is just something about the bun i can't get enough of. the sauce that came with the pot stickers was yummy.

for dinner we both had the coffee-chili rubbedporktenderloin. we cleaned our bowls! the coconut milk polenta was so creamy and delicious. taking a bit of polenta withporkand greens was the perfect bite.

the real star i think is the complimentary hawaiian bread with macadamia nut butter. this is so good i had to hold myself back so others could get a piece.

hands down, best breakfast on property!!!  every single dish we had was
awesome.  we had the samoan, macadamia pancakes and egg white omelet.  i
am a big fan of eggs benedict and any play on the original is a must
try for me.  add inporkand i am 100% in.  the flavors blended
perfectly to make a rich breakfast.  the pancakes were fluffy and had a
great crunch from the nuts.  add macadamia nut butter and how can you go
wrong!  the omelet was the stand out which surprised me.  full of
roasted red peppers, spinach and goat cheese!  get your self a pot of
kona pressed coffee and some lilikoi juice and start your day off with a
bang!

according to the menu, the samoan is poached eggs with hollandaise over smoked pulledporkhash. the dish was amazing and bursting with flavor! the hash was made of pulled pork, sautéed onions, english muffin croutons and potatoes. it was awesome! i also ordered a fresh fruit cup on the side.

i was ecstatic when i saw they had a pulledporkeggs benedict on the menu called somoan. two things this girl loves: poached eggs and pulled pork. not so much in that order, but boy do they work well together. if you get the chance to go to kona, definitely get two things off the menu and split them with your dining pal. make sure one of those items is the tonga toast. it is worth it, and coming from miss i hate anything with syrup, this means a lot.

i have dined here at the kona cafe before for lunch as well as dinner but this is the first time for breakfast. i opted for the samoan, which is a poached egg over pulledporkand hash browns drizzled with cheddar cheese. this dish is outstanding. will definitely dine here again, but it will be hard to choose anything else.
