this was our third visit to kona cafe, and while the first two were both good, this one was outstanding. the polynesian resort has been updated in the last year or so, and that included some nice improvements to both the look and menu at kona cafe. the menu is more diverse than ever before. an abbreviated (but nonetheless interesting) sushi menu accompanies a good selection of asian and polynesian inspired dishes.
we had sushi appetizers, which were excellent. the kona sushi combo plate was particularly good, with awesome tuna poke along with generous portions of both salmon sashimi and the california luau roll.
i had the premium burger, which combined delicious beef, creamy brie, and spicy fried shrimp with a black garlic aioli. these elements all worked together surprisingly well to make for a memorable burger.
the star entree we tried was an asian noodle bowl, which equated to a huge portion of pho filled with steak, asian vegetables, and a deeply flavored broth. if you enjoy pho, this is the perfect entree choice.
the desserts were likewise excellent. the lava cake has been a kona cafe signature for years and remains a great choice. we also had a tasty warm apple tart with cinnamon gelato and a macadamia bacon brittle as topping.
the atmosphere here is open and airy, with the entire restaurant flowing into the resort's large main atrium. the sun shines in from the main windows and skylights above.
highly recommended. if you are visiting magic kingdom and want a good lunch, it is easy to take the monorail here and back without missing much park time.
