khao san thai kitchen

wow. khao san reminded me that i love thai food. my dining partner has traveled thailand more than once and promised me our dishes tasted authentic. everything was multidimensional and the flavors complex and rich.

wine list and service were also good. ask for hot sauce and chili oil on the side if you're into spice. if you're allergic to peanuts our server alluded that it would be a challenge to eat at khao san. luckily, the only nut on the menu i'm allergic to is cashews and it wasn't an issue.

we started with the papaya salad (crisp, flavorful, and spicy!), then shared the salmon panang curry (medium rare and had a wonderful texture though i do wish there was more curry sauce to spread on our coconut rice), and khao san herbal prawns (huge prawns, though only 3, flavors of coconut, fish sauce, and herbs i'm not familiar with - doesn't sound delicious, but it was!). for dessert we had a sweet sticky rice and egg custard confection that was neither too sweet nor too rich, but comforting and perfect after all the flavors from dinner. looking forward to introducing everyone i know to khao san!

fresh and fantastic. what can i say that most of the other reviewers haven't already said? superb service - attentive and friendly without being intrusive. fantastic food, very well presented, and full of flavour. went for lunch, and can't wait to go back to try the extensive dinner menu.

fun lively atmosphere. food was really good but i've still never found cashew chicken anywhere like i did on koh samui, thailand. khao san is a little expensive but we will be back for sure!

having only scratched the surface of khao san's extensive menu, i would definitely be back to try more of the restaurant's traditional and fusion dishes - they also have a lengthy vegetarian section; good news for all the herbivores out there!

led astray. i've been waiting to try khao san thai kitchen for a while now since i recently returned from thailand and have been craving the delicious flavours the country is known for. i was especially excited to try it as they have an extensive list of menu items that can be vegetarian. it seems, however, that they forgot to look up what vegetarian meant when they put it on their menu. we were served a fresh papaya salad with fish sauce (which we sent back) it came back out without but lacked the brightness i come to expect with this particular salad. we had wanted the red curry but were informed that despite being on the vegetarian menu, it contained shrimp paste. again, not sure what definition of vegetarian they are using. we ended up with what i think was royal garden delight. i was not impressed with the flavours of this dish at all. it was one dimensional and rather bland. the wine we had was nice, the service was attentive, and they did feel badly about the mix up, however, this is really a serious case of false advertisement as the "vegetarian" dishes contain fish/shellfish.

really good thai food. i hadn't had thai food for a while and after an unfortunate experience was craving good thai food. this place didn't disappoint. i'm not sure how authentic it really is (i've never had short ribs in thailand), but everything was really good, the service was friendly and efficient.

a must try!!!! the service is quick and friendly, and the food is delicious. i had the chicken cashew and my friend had the pad thai... both worth trying. and the restaurant is clean and inviting!

great thai food and atmosphere! friendly staff and top notch service. you can come in for a quick bite at lunch or bring your family or a date for a nice dinner. favorite restaurant in the city!

amazing!!!. i was on the search for a great thai place after i returned from my thailand trip. every place i tried seemed to have westernized thai. i was missing those incredible intense flavours.

i'm happy to say my search has ended. i truly hope khao san maintains their level of quality and authenticity for many years to come.

delicious! the service was great, and the food came out freshly cooked and nice and hot. we enjoyed a variety of curries at our table and i enjoyed them all. there are lots of vegetables in each of the dishes, they are light on the proteins.

khao san is absolutely excellent! amazing food, priced well with impeccable service. a must try!

dreaming of second visit. i'm being serious- i have been dreaming about making a second visit to this restaurant since i last ate there. the exemplary service by all staff members is virtually unseen on 17th ave sw. from the way my wine was poured to how my plate was cleared, my experience went above and beyond what i usually receive. it was fine dining service in a casual dining atmosphere. it's gorgeous inside and gives off a lounge vibe. and the food! my pad thai was so good and my friend's red curry was delicious. again, cannot wait to experience khao san thai kitchen again!

really enjoyed it. my wife and i went for lunch today and were pleasantly surprised with the excellent food and equally stellar service. we live close by and plan to come again for dinner very soon. the pad thai was superb. we ordered the thai basil dish with seafood and asked for very spicy which i will tone down for next time as it was a bit too hot for me although delicious as well.
