it's a nice place and location. this time, we ordered the chicken pad thai, pineapple fried rice, yellow curry with coconut rice, satay chicken and deep fried shrimp. the satay chicken came with 4 skewers and toasted bread (regular bread) to pair with a sweet translucent sauce. the bread is a bit odd but the sauce is good though. the fried shrimp came in a shot glass and the size of the shrimp was fairly big which i think it's worth the money. the coconut rice was a little dry but other than that, everything tasted good. i quite enjoy the pineapple fried rice, it's got a good flavor to it. i would still prefer white elephant if i have to pick a thai place.

i went here for a celebration dinner and it certainly didn't disappoint, from the delicious food to the lovely decor! the service was very attentive. i could easily see why the braised short ribs in massaman curry ($23) is one of their signature dishes, as it was absolutely delicious! the green curry (with chicken) ($16) was also very good; both curries had great depth of flavour and a nice level of heat. i didn't like the pad thai ($15) as much as at some other thai restaurants, but it was still very good. for dessert i tried the sweet sticky rice with thai custard ($5), which was unbelievably delicious! i am definitely planning on returning to try more of the menu!

i knew i would be a regular at khao san the first time i visited this place. there is absolutely nothing that i have to say about this place which is even borderline negative. the ambiance is wonderful, seating is comfortable. staff is friendly and helpful with the menu. the food is phenomenal! we have tried almost 80% of the menu here, and there isn't a single meal that we haven't liked. the curries have the perfect amount of flavor and spice and so do the stir fry vegetables. rice is cooked to perfection. noodle soups are deliciously flavored. we love the golden tofu with the sweet-chili peanut sauce. servings are wholesome! their wine menu, however, is rather limited, but that has never been an issue with us. highly recommended!

my favourite thai restaurant in the city. the cashew chicken and pad thai are amazing. tom yum soup is good as well. pricey, but great for a treat!

khao san is a thai fusion restaurant located along 17th ave, and one that i've been meaning to try for a while. i've always heard good things about this place, and can certainly see why. i ordered the red curry, satay skewers, and a noodle soup dish. the food came out quite quickly, and the service was incredibly friendly. all of the dishes were flavourful, and i particularly liked the peanut satay sauce that came with the skewers. the noodle soup was incredible as well, with a nice balance of spice and coconut milk to create a memorable taste. definitely coming back!

what differentiates khao san thai is the outstanding service. the staff are courteous, fun and knowledgeable. we were really impressed - 5/5.

the food was good - 4/5. absolutely must order the scallop starter - was perfect. we also ordered tom yum soups starters, the massaman beef rib curry and the chicken green curry with coconut rice. all were great but not mind blowing.

the wine list is minimal (which is a big negative for me as i love wine!). they do have cocktails and other options available to try but we didn't venture to those. hard to give the beverage list more than 2.5/5.

overall i would be back - 4/5

i've been here multiple times ever since my first visit for a number of reasons! the scallop appetizer is super delicious, i highly recommend you get them. you get 4 scallops set in individual spoons covered in a savoury, pineapple salsa with finely chopped crispy vegetables. the texture and flavour compliment each other with every bite! the curry is also delicious (i get the pa-nang curry) with coconut rice. on a down side (which is why they don't get a 5/5) is the inconsistency of the noodles. i've gotten both the pad thai and pad sew and they've tasted different each time. sometimes it's savoury and sometimes it's sweet.. but otherwise their service is quick and friendly! prices are okay, pricey for thai food but cheaper than the rest of the restaurants on 17th!

last sunday lunchtime we were doing some odd jobs near 17th and decided to grab a bite to eat nearby. it was a pretty cold and grim day so we figured a nice warm curry would be perfect. it wasn’t long before we spotted the sign for khao san thai kitchen. the reviews on zomato were pretty good, so we couldn’t resist giving it a go.

best service i have ever received in calgary by far. i've been here twice and every time i delighted by how nice the service is at this restaurant. their food is pretty good although i think some menus are a bit overpriced.

had basil chicken for lunch, friends had pad thai and fried rice.  it's ok good food but  it is very pricy for lunch (and we saw prices on the regular dinner menu are even higher).  perhaps surviving on 17th avenue is not easy, but i can easily find other thai restaurants in town with equal (or better) quality but less on price.  sorry i will not be coming back any time soon.

this place has one of the best curries i've tried. they also have pork dumplings in the shape of flowers which make them all the more appetizing. the only thing i didn't appreciate was that my table seemed to have less service than the other tables with older patrons. it seems as though serving younger customers isn't a priority for them.

very tasty red curry. i kicked it up to 2 star heat. he warned me. it was pretty hot but very good. quick lunch service. water full throughout the meal. nice decor and very clean. i'll be back to check out the other dishes.

ain’t nobody got thai for that

after traveling to thailand, i was excited to see what this place had to offer… hopefully less lady-boys, ping pong shows, and massages than on my previous trip. starting with the highlights, the curry and ambiance was amazing, but the other dishes seemed somewhat lacklustre. it was also lacking in the heat department, which was one of the most appealing aspects of the authentic thailand food. it gave me the impression that somewhere in bangkok there is a canadian restaurant serving poutines with a thai twist and in the end misses the mark on both cultures specialties. if you have travelled thailand before you will know what i mean when i say, in the end, it was all “same-same-but different”, better luck next thai’m

read our blog (click on our profile and follow the link under our name), a couple of couples, for the full review! it is a blog where we enjoy a variety of food around calgary with many other couples to gain more perspective in our reviews!

i am a picky when it comes to thai cuisine. this place is better than the franchise mall food.
its tom yum goong has keffir lime leaves which brings it to a different level. to me however, it still lacks fragrance flavor obtainable only when the soup is cooked with shrimp shells. it is sour enough but not spicy enough. i will continue to search for authentic thai cuisine in calgary.

the restaurant is beautifully and tastefully decorated. it looks quite clean and the service is quick.
