i visited kanzo following the urban spoon reviews & rating. i was not disappointed. i had a table for 4 booked thankfully as the dining space is very small. thesashimiwas fresh, the ramen hot & the bento's had a great selection. fantastic food at a very affordable price. highly recommend, i'll be back.

odd little corner store which only seats around 20 people, but mentions that there is another branch down the road. when i was here it was pretty quiet, so opted to stay here.
ordered at the window and food came out in about 5 minutes for thesashimiand 10 minutes for the katsu curry.
sashimi was as you'd expect. tasty enough but nothing amazing. for a 14 dollar plate you got a fair amount of fish, but the variety wasn't fantastic.
curry was pretty tasty and the katsu crispy in areas, but the katsu had mostly been smothered in sauce which made the breading soggy.
overall tasty, but not sure why this is rated 4.5

having opened a second location just down the road from the first, kanzo is bigger and better than ever. with all my old favourites still on the menu, they’ve refined their offerings to provide a casual dining experience that really is value for money. expect fresh, vibrant sushi and sashimi, and make sure you don’t leave without trying the grilled salmon roll!

this review is for their new location 'kanzo fresh sushi seasons' located just down the road from the original. with the upgrade came a fresh new-look menu, brimming with everything fromsashimito donburi, udon and ramen. nothing particularly innovative by any means, but everything i look for in a local, casual japanese restaurant – fresh sushi and sashimi, and all the classics done well.

overall: 2.8/5
gluten free options: 2/5
food taste: 3/5
ambience: 2/5
customer service: 3/5
pricing vs quality: 4/5

rather busy during lunch hours, although getting a table or even just getting takeaway doesn’t require that much of a wait. i’ve been here twice now and it’s not the best japanese cuisine place in parramatta but it does it well enough. this place is not friendly for gluten free and dairy free folks, since there’s no gluten free sauce or any kind of notation on their menu. that being said though, freshsashimiand nigiri tend to be safe options.

orderedsashimibento, sushi andsashimibento, and a medium nigiri sushi platter. was kinda keen on the lotus root chips but then i saw the price and was like nah.

anyway, sashimibento came with rice, salad (drizzled with sauce - so i didn’t touch it bc i don’t know if it’s gluten free or not), miso soup, and a few slices of salmon drizzled in more sauce (did not touch this because i rly hate it when salmon is drowned in any kind of sauce!) and a few slices of tuna and salmon sashimi. the tunasashimiis definitely not as good as the salmon sashimi. there were more inedible fatty pieces in the tuna that the chef hadn’t cut out and i had to spit it out while i was eating because grosssss... it is fresh seafood but i really wish they took more care in slicing their raw food, because that’s what makessashimidifferent to just throwing on blobs of seafood. would have preferred thinner slices :) the salmonsashimiwas cut thinner than the tuna ones and it was hard to fault! melt in your mouth salmonsashimiis always to die for so kudos for that. the one lotus root chip was ok, kinda oily and already cold. wouldn’t really make me want to order more.

sushi andsashimibento: similar to thesashimibento but $1 more expensive. it came with a few pieces of tuna and salmon nigiri. i think i did like this more than thesashimione because they didn’t drown anything in sauce. the thin nigiri slices are great. rice is eh — not something that i usually eat unless i’m super hungry. it’s well seasoned and well made, maybe a little on the sticky side but still dry like leftover rice.

medium nigiri sushi platter probably doesn’t seem worth it at all considering the baby rolls were half salmon and half cooked tuna. the cooked tuna was rly bland and the salmon you could barely taste. ebi/prawn nigiri was also good but i really would’ve preferred less baby rolls.

overall, because of how busy this place gets, customer service is to the point and friendly enough (they seem like they’re trying their best). ambience-wise it seems like your regular takeaway shop, with only a few tables to sit at, but i really do think their seafood is a lot more fresh than the usual japanese takeaway stores and is on par with fancier japanese restaurants and sushi trains. their prices are fair for what they offer although improvements could be made for some of the dishes.

ordered the grilled salmon roll, a largesashimiplatter and orange juice which was around $45 in total, which is a good price forsashimiand a large roll.

the grilled salmon is pretty dam good. i didn’t think thesashimiplatter was that fresh but the texture and flavour was still good.

it’s just across the road from the lobby of meriton george street so it’s a great place to go if you’re staying the night.

in the words of luke cage: "sweet christmas!" i think i've found my new go to sushi place. tried their special rolls, salmon salad and nigiri in 3 visits. have not yet once been disappointed.

let me just say that the grilled scallop roll and the volcano (unagi) roll are to die for.  each is like opening a treasure chest, where hidden inside the grilled scallop roll is a generous amount of salmonsashimiand there's also the crispiest tempura at the centre of the volcano roll.  both very delicious. salmon salad is super refreshing if you decide to go with the sesame dressing. very generous servings which will definitely fill you up. will be back again!

we ordered the 9 piece sashimi, karage chicken bento with teriyaki chicken and the pork katsu bento for 2 people.

quality:sashimiwas only salmon as we were told that tuna wasn't available. nice texture and flavour but possibly a bit less firm than chilled or freshly cut sashimi. bentos were well presented but the pork katsu crumb wasn't particularly crispy and the katsu sauce was reminiscent of bbq sauce. teriyaki chicken was excellent and very well matched with the coleslaw salad bed it came on. miso soup was some of the best i've had in recent memory.

service: very prompt with the food after ordering. miso was brought out immediately which was appreciated as i was ravenous. good amount of time between thesashimiand bentos

value: excellent value compared to similar japanese food in parramatta cbd. this is really good value for money at only $13 per bento.

overall: great service and value for money. food is yummy but make sure you go early in the day so you can be sure it is as fresh as possible!

went to the new shop further down the road. good food - had tempura udon, largesashimiplatter, unagi roll. everything was so fresh. great to see a small shop expand into something bigger for the benefit of the parra foodies

this humble japanese restaurant honestly surprised me. we were extremely hungry and saw that this small place had a lot of people waiting, so decided to queue to see what the fuss was about. and we were not disappointed. the food was good for its price and i definitely recommend thesashimiand sushi- those were delicious. the udon was also incredibly tasty and not overly salty as i find other places to be.

what's funny is that we went past another japanese restaurant whose interior is beautiful and new, yet there was no one inside. while this slightly run-down and humble restaurant was bustling with people. says a lot, really.

only one downfall is that we had to sit outside and the seats are placed on a slope which made it quite awkward. but hey, we didn't come for the seats. we came for food.

japanese is honestly one of my fave cuisines! i went to kanzo with my friends last monday night and it was so good to be in a cosy little restaurant, away from the cold sydney weather.

i've been having a ramen craving for ages now so of course i had to order their delicious chicken katsu ramen. food was served quickly and it totally hit the spot for me. fried chicken with noodles, soup and heaps of veggies - what more could you want?

unfortunately, i'm not asashimieater compared to my friends but they did encourage me to have some of their seared salmon sushi roll and it was out of this world! the salmon was perfect and the special mayo sauce they used - it was goddamn amazing. definitely the highlight of the night.

so happy i can hit up a place in parramatta for a japanese fix. for all your sushi, ramen & udon needs, kanzo will come to the rescue!!

kanzo is a cosy little japanese joint in the heart of parramatta on george st. this restaurant is always bustling with customers. while you sit inside the restaurant, there are a lot of takeaway orders being done as well. turnover is also quite fast so i've never had to wait for a table here despite the small sized restaurant.

i was recommended by my friend to have the sushi here. the first time i went, my family wanted hot food so we ended up not ordering any sushi and i was slightly underwhelmed. after this first visit, i decided i'd follow my friends advice and ordered sushi andsashimiand it did not disappoint!

i highly recommend their grilled salmon roll, grilled salmon nigiri, sashimi, fresh salmon roll with avocado and their special rolls. the salmon is always very fresh, and their portion sizes for the salmon on the sushi is quite a generous ratio.

their prices are very decent, i've never had to pay over $20pp for a very decent feed. i highly recommend this place, especially if you're after good sushi or sashimi!
