great location , great view ,venue was nicely presented tableware spotlessly set out ,great waitstaff fantastic wine list.i had high expectations of this restaurant before i dined there both me and my wife each trying an entree, main and dessert each course excelled my expectations and they put on some complimentary surprises as well which made us feel that the establishment really values the customer something i find similar establishments forget.a dining experience i don't think i will forget in a hurry and will be hard to top . if you are contemplating going don't just go !! it made our twentieth anniversary something really special.

i’d seengoodreviews of this place so decided to try it out for dinner. it’s a bit pricey but food was delicious. if going for dinner, would recommend heading there a bit early so you can sit on the balcony and enjoy the lovely views of the beach.
cocktails were amazing, my favourite was the vodka with cinnamon and gingerbread.
while waiting for our dinner orders to come out we were given a box of nibbles. for entree i ordered the duck gnocchi which was amazing. my partner ordered the ravioli. for mains we ordered fish and steak with sides of chips and cauliflower. all the food was delicious, seasoned and cooked well.
service was good, until towards the end of the night when our waiter was blatantly ignoring my partner. disappointed with the service, i expected better for the price they charge. because of this i am rating a 4.
upon paying the bill at the end of the night we were given a little box of takeaway treats (chocolate and mini profiteroles).

had lunch here today. firstly, the staff were polite. we arrived early and was asked to wait for our table but it wasn't a long wait at all. entree - we had the zucchini flowers stuffed with prawns - it was delicious. the flavours with the sauce around it worked well together. for main, we had a pumpkin risotto for the veggie gf and the wagyu beef skirt - i had it medium and it was really nice. for dessert, we shared the dark chocolate and hazelnut gateau - the dessert looked impressive but a bit too rich for my liking but then again, i'm not a chocolate fun.
the overall atmosphere was enjoyable. not too noisey considering the size and you can actually hear people and make agoodconversation. you'll want to sit next to a window though to have uninterrupted views.

all in all, goodlunch experience. they had 2 vegetarian meals on the menu. expect to pay about $300 for 2 people including a couple of glasses of wine.

wow, heard so manygoodreviews on jonah's we were almost too scared to try it in fear of being grossly disappointed but to the contrary it delivered in every way, location with a great view, very professional staff including the sommelier to help guide you through the wines to suite each dish, and the meals were to die for.

enjoyed a number of birthdays here now and even the occasional light lunch on the terrace for when you don't want to dress up too much.

posted on 10:20 amby amy zhong with no comments brace yourselves, the taste of sydney posts are coming! not that it's a bad thing because so many outstanding dishes were beckoning our stomachs (and crown card) towards them, giving us the chance to sample some of sydney's finest restaurants offering. taste-y! this is my first time at taste of sydney, and like previous years it is held at the brazilian fields at centennial park. sure you can drive there but given the traffic, it is highly recommended that you catch public transport or get dropped off right out front. the hungry crowds we arrive early for the saturday evening session and it is already in full swing when we arrive. what we learnt (the hard way)? gotta arrive early and beat the queues! another thing to keep in mind? have a plan of attack, the menu is available online so take a quick squiz and pick out the dishes you want so you don't blow the budget! oh and also there are heaps of brands doing tastings and chefs doing demos, so check out a few of those and you may score some tasty treats! porteno's icon dish is the bbq'd porchetta with chilli, silverbeet & truffle pecorino  so with our plan of attack and a map in our hands, we dove straight into the food, because heck we were starving! a long queue is not exactly a bad thing, not when it is a porteno’s to get their famed porchetta. i kid you not when i said their queue stretched across the field. although the wait to order was long, the pick up of the food was really efficient, with a plate off that porchetta in our hands in under 5 minutes! so howgoodis the porchetta? friggen amazing! the meat was tender and flavoursome and the crackling was crunchy and all things amazing, i however didn’t like the silverbeet as i’m not a fan of overcooked greens . the truffle pecorino however made everything allgoodif not better! cured huon salmon with smoked oyster creme fraiche on a hash brown also from porteno is the cured huon salmon with smoked oyster creme fr

jonah’s is well known in sydney as a fine dining establishment with stunning views, goodfood and wine. perched on top of a cliff in whale beach, it’s no wonder that the views would be amazing. however, as my family went to jonah’s for dinner, our view was not as spectacular given that the sun had well and truly set. nevertheless, walking into jonah’s, one is still impressed by the crisp, simple and elegant layout of the restaurant, with white tablecloths and orchids on each table. once we were seated, we were presented with the dinner menu, a degustation menu, a drinks menu and also a colossal wine list (really, a wine book). after our orders were taken, we were given an amuse bouche which consisted of a morsel of beef short rib, with celeriac puree, topped with a sauce and a slice of cherry tomato. the tender short rib meat just melted in your mouth and a tangy punch was added from the sauce on top. it was a delicious amuse bouche. for entrees, we ordered: tasmanian huon salmon- con

yes and no. ok here's the thing - we had waited a long time to visit jonah's and booked in for a friday lunch for our wedding anniversary. we had booked well ahead and requested a table next to the window and what a lovely table it was! however we couldn't sit there - there was a couple with an extremely loud & lively 5 year old boy next to us and we and the waitress couldn't hear each other to take our order. we suggested that, not being conducive to a wedding anniversary lunch, perhaps we could move to another table and although we had to move away from the view we chose to do that so we could at least have conversation without a very loud child who minutes later was playing leapfrog between and under our chairs. we consider ourselves a child-loving couple but for a lunch costing over $300 in a fine dining restaurant - were we out of place or were they? thing is, there were other places in the venue more suited to an active child - like tables in the garden or the outer deck area - or the central glassed-in area. we noticed the maître'd and the staff in earnest discussions about the situation near the desk - they obviously had concerns too. the food wasgoodat jonah's but had we been warned, we could have lowered our sights re no view, loud boisterous kids = limited conversation, and had agoodand much cheaper meal in a food court.

not asgoodas expected. my partner and i chose jonahs as the destination where we would mark a very special celebration. having read numerous review, both professional and amateurs, and recognising that hats arent awarded to just anyone, we thought it would be the perfect place. unfortunately we were wrong.

the waitress who was assigned to our table had a manner more suitable to a greasy spoon than a one-hat restaurant. no smile, no warm words of welcome, no special effort made to make us feel like valued guests. due to a medical condition, there are certain foods that my partner can not eat and yet despite informing the restaurant weeks in advance and confirming in the days before, every single one of the entrees was unsuitable. when this was explained to the waitress, she responded by saying that surely there was something there we could eat! no sympathy, no apology, no understanding. after some discussion it was agreed that one of the options might be suitable if it could be cooked in a certain way. however, when it was subsequently delivered, this hadnt been done and therefore couldnt be eaten. after an age we managed to attract the attention of the waitress and once again explained the situation. she said that the chef had cooked it in the special way and when we demonstrated this hadnt been the case, she huffed, grabbed the plate and stormed off. nearly 15 minutes later she returned and this time the food had been overcooked but at least was edible for my partner.

the shoddy and insolent service continued throughout the meal. after discussing the various wines with the sommelier, i ordered two different glasses of red with my main yet only one was presented. when this was empty, i again had to call the waitress over and she then tried to pour me a second glass of first wine i had selected into my old glass. may not seem much but when you have taken the trouble to explore the wines with the sommelier and are paying $25 per glass then it should be done properly.

overall, the quality of the produce used was verygoodbut i wouldnt say the dishes were particularly inventive nor classics. fairly standard items with a few twists.

we are not generally fussy or over-demanding patrons but unfortunately this evening was a big let down. yes, the views are stunning and the area is gorgeous but those things can not make up for poor service and average food when you are paying a king's ransom.

food : 13/20

ambience : 14/20
overall experience : 11/20

lived up to expectations!. the crispy-skinned salmon was exactly that with the flesh being cooked medium-rare so it was moist and the natural flavour of the salmon shone through. the finely diced provencal vegetables and iberico ham greatly complemented the dish. the potato mash with truffle oil was heavenly and the green beans still crisp and fresh as ever! bonus points for gluten-free bread, soy milk andgoodcoffee, a rarity at some fine restaurants. friendly, prompt service and views to die for made it a worthwhile visit!

good food, awful service. positives first: there is no one that would doubt the beauty of the view and the setting of this restaurant. the decor, ambience and 'feel' of the place are really good. no complaint there. the food is good. i had the blue crab, my fiancee the scallops and both were top notch. my beef and her lamb were also good. now the negatives: the service is absolutely awful and non existent. simple tasks like water pouring, wine pouring, plate clearing, checking everything was ok or if we wanted anything else simply were absent from all staff. there were 10 waiting staff on for dinner and all seem to lack the skills of basic table service. the restaurant manager was non-existent and the room was not up to the 1 chef hat standard. the two people i feel most for in this circumstance are my fiancee for not getting the dinner she deserved on her birthday and the head chef who's creations are over shadowed by a poor front of house display. we've been lucky enough to travel the world eating at many top restaurants and experienced top service - i suggest the restaurant takes some of my $365 bill and sends a rep overseas to see whatgoodservice is and train the staff. by the end of the night, guests were complaining to one another on the absence of the wait staff when they wanted to pay their bill and go home.
