not asgoodas expected. my partner and i chose jonahs as the destination where we would mark a very special celebration. having read numerous review, both professional and amateurs, and recognising that hats arent awarded to just anyone, we thought it would be the perfect place. unfortunately we were wrong.
the waitress who was assigned to our table had a manner more suitable to a greasy spoon than a one-hat restaurant. no smile, no warm words of welcome, no special effort made to make us feel like valued guests. due to a medical condition, there are certain foods that my partner can not eat and yet despite informing the restaurant weeks in advance and confirming in the days before, every single one of the entrees was unsuitable. when this was explained to the waitress, she responded by saying that surely there was something there we could eat! no sympathy, no apology, no understanding. after some discussion it was agreed that one of the options might be suitable if it could be cooked in a certain way. however, when it was subsequently delivered, this hadnt been done and therefore couldnt be eaten. after an age we managed to attract the attention of the waitress and once again explained the situation. she said that the chef had cooked it in the special way and when we demonstrated this hadnt been the case, she huffed, grabbed the plate and stormed off. nearly 15 minutes later she returned and this time the food had been overcooked but at least was edible for my partner.
the shoddy and insolent service continued throughout the meal. after discussing the various wines with the sommelier, i ordered two different glasses of red with my main yet only one was presented. when this was empty, i again had to call the waitress over and she then tried to pour me a second glass of first wine i had selected into my old glass. may not seem much but when you have taken the trouble to explore the wines with the sommelier and are paying $25 per glass then it should be done properly.
overall, the quality of the produce used was verygoodbut i wouldnt say the dishes were particularly inventive nor classics. fairly standard items with a few twists.
we are not generally fussy or over-demanding patrons but unfortunately this evening was a big let down. yes, the views are stunning and the area is gorgeous but those things can not make up for poor service and average food when you are paying a king's ransom.
