jocelyn's provisions is the place to where i go whenever i need a cake for a special occasion.
have had a couple ofgoodexperiences in the past and today after the fiasco at pineapple express we decided to get ourselves a treat.

we got the salted caramel cupcake and the pecan and chocolate brownie.

the caramel cupcake made me rethink all of my previous experiences with this place, the custard on top only tasted like butter and the cake itself didn't have much flavour whatsover. would give it a 2/5.

the pecan and chocolate brownie was way better than the cupcake but still not worth its price, the brownie could have more chocolate flavour to it, and also the texture was kinda not what i was expecting, this brownie was more to the crumbly side as it was crunchy all way through, the problem is that i felt like the crunchiness was coming from something like sugar crystals or something similar as if there was too much sugar so it didn't get all dissolved in the brownie batter or something. would give it a 3/5.

overall my previous experience with their cakes was excellent, for example this week i grabbed a cake for my partner, almond and orange cake if i'm not wrong, and it was almost perfect, soft, moist and the perfect sweetness to it.

so i might not consider coming back for a treat, but i will be back for their cakes.

absolutely love the pies here. they use reallygoodingredients in the fillings and the pastry melts in your mouth. they also do really nice fresh cakes and biscuits. i never like carrot cake until i tried it here.

we love joecelyns. highly highly recommend the blondie. fantastic cakes and tarts. breads are brilliant too. we love the packaged sweets, they're brilliant to fill a hamper with for gifts or take a box of goodies to a dinner with friends. it's pricey but i think it's worth it. we've ordered a few cakes and never been disappointed until our last cake order. we ordered salted caramel to feed 30 people, we certainly paid for it but we were okay with that because of howgoodthe previous ones have been. sadly it was so salty, almost too salty to eat and very dry. that was disappointing. but alwaysgoodservice and we are prepared to order more cakes in the future and give them a second go. we love the chocolate cream cheese cake.

walking into jocelyn's provisions, it is easy to be taken in by the beauty of the cakes, breads and other provisions, as well as the slightly rustic feel.

unfortunately, we found most of the selections to be fairly average to slightly above average and overpriced.

we purchased a blonde brownie ($5.90), a salted caramel & chocolate tart ($7.50) and a bag of chocolate shortbread cookies ($11.80).

the blonde brownie was chewy white chocolate and macadamia. this was the highlight of our purchases and rates a 3.5.

the salted caramel & chocolate tart was a chocolate pastry and salted caramel topped with dark chocolate ganache. while eating this i could not stop thinking how much better the same tart is at matthew thomas (sandgate and aspley) - and the matthew thomas salted caramel & chocolate tart is both larger and less expensive. jocelyn's provisions' tart rates a 3.

the chocolate shortbread buttons hadgoodflavor (3.5), but weren't agoodvalue (honestly didn't realize they were this expensive until after i'd paid) - this too rates a 3.

would consider returning to try the bread and iced carrot cake, but there are several other bakeries that rate higher in my opinion.

mini meatball and lady meatball hit the brownie and tart before i could get pictures (except the box).

couple of days ago, i bought a cake for my mrs birthday. i was quite exciting that many ppl has been visited this place and this place has got suchgoodreview.

however, this cake totally break my expectation. base bread is awful. texture is just brittle in my mouth. cant tasty anything not even sweet. my mrs has same opinion and i brought my work mates. he chuck in the bin straight after one bite.

i have no idea why this place hasgoodreputation. $35 is just blow to the air. one bite then never eat again like 10 days now.
still doesnt go off yet even doesnt have any fungus somehow.

not recommend and dont waste your money.

jocelyn's provisions - fortitude valley, brisbane. renowned around the nation, people from all around town flood to jocelyn's provisions at the centro on james street, fortitude valley to sample their treats, buy their items and even sometimes just to marvel at the selection that is on offer. everything is done and made straight from the source; walking in the door the customers are basically in between a commercial kitchen and a retail shop. this is an artisan bakery that focuses on quality, therefore the prices of items are not cheap. jocelyn's provisions is mostly thought of with their selection of sweets: all sorts of cakes, slices, pastries and tarts. they have plenty of other options in store, including preserves, pies (both sweet and savoury) and all sort of breads. you can practically smell all the scents coming from the kitchen, and just try not to salivate over them. additionally, they are keen to cater for any sort of party.

after agoodbreakfast out, and getting an errand done nearby, my brother-in-law felt like something sweets and to get another coffee from elsewhere. the drive was due north, but more in an aimless sort of way and it was all up to wondering what places around the area could service both the coffee and cake style cravings. after a bit of fiddling with the application, i finally realised in the area that this place was nearby and would definitely satiate most sweet cravings. so it was to find park and get some sweets.

for once it is well positioned, or at least has a number of aspects done right for access. there is a parking space in centro for customers only, and right outside are a few tables to sit at (though they could have been owned by the store next to it; erring on the side of caution, my brother-in-law and i went elsewhere). just a note before going into the store, they do not serve drinks here. they must get this question a lot (people thinking it is a coffee and cake sort of place). if you want to have a coffee, there are places nearby - including one reallygoodone just across the road - to complement the sweet that you get. service is fast, and very proficiently done. it is all with needed enthusiasm for a well-made product.

what is guaranteed is that it will take quite a while to know what you are going to have from here. it took a while for either of us to decide which sweets to get. ultimately, it ended up with his being a lemon delicious and i went for the reliable old brownie. these both ended up beinggoodchoices. the lemon delicious was a substantial size, giving how rich the texture was. it was creamy, had agoodamount of coconut meringue on top of it. what was reallygoodwas the combination of tangy and sweet flavours mingling in the custard. this might have well been the better of the two, and that is coming from someone who really likes their brownies. these brownies are way above average, dusted with cocoa powder to give them even more of a chocolatey consistency and flavour. not crumbly like many other varieties, and smooth in texture - this was also a winner.

while this place is certainly deemed worthy of a return visit, that return visit is "sometimes". this place is not cheap, and many of the items for sale are far from healthy. jocelyn's provisions would be hell for anyone who is on a diet of any kind. on the positive note, they deserve the reputation that they get and aficionados of baking would be in heaven visiting here. if anyone i know is feeling like something a bit sweet, this is one of the prime places to visit.

good food, bad service. the baked goods were delicious and although a little pricey, it'sgoodfor the occasional treat for yourself! the only negative would be the service - yes, you are busy but no you do not get to be snobby to your customers.

disappointing. very disappointing. i chose this place to take an overseas visitor for their birthday cake based on the high percentage here. i didn't really like the flavour of the cakes on offer but i chose the chocolate cinnamon variety. the cake itself was huge and quitegoodvalue for the price. unfortunately it was very, very dry and neither of us could eat more than a few bites.

not only does this splendid store offer baked treats, its also a great destination to source essential ingredients for your larder. the shelves are chocked full of dreamy preserves, relishes, muesli and chocolate. adding to this jocelyn's is also agoodplace for to shop for boutique oils and vinegars.

previous employee - not a bad word to say. i used to work for jocelyn's, and i have left without a bad word to say about it. yes, it is comparatively expensive - but you really do get what you pay for. they use lindt chocolate for everything, and you can genuinely taste the difference. my personal favourites are the raspberry friends, chocolate and sour cream cake with white chocolate ganache icing (to die for), and the blonde brownie. go to jocelyn's provisions! if you appreciategoodcake, you will not be disappointed.

whoa, jocelyn's has gotten expensive. popped in to jocelyn's for a few christmas provisions and can not believe how expensive it has become. everything looked fantastic, but left without buying a thing, can't believe how much they are charging now. i'm prepared to pay forgoodquality but this is way over the top.

so-so. run-of-the-mill pies that go soggy very quickly.goodcupcakes for the sweet tooth. prime example of brisbane outfits that locals go gaga over, but wouldn't pass muster down south. hate the five-minute parking spots out front for customers, a tacit admission perhaps that nobody in their right mind would linger more than the allotted time.

valley favourite. service:
service here is not always consistent. it is typically friendly and prompt, but sometimes the staff may look sourly if having a bad day.

food:
cakes and slices, on the other hand, are consistently good. the lemon meringue slice and date slice (unfortunately no longer available) are a must. the prices have gone up a fair bit since the last time i've visited brisbane, and i would be hesitant to buy for a taste if i wasn't already a loyal happy customer. chocolate mud cake with white chocolate ganache topping finished with violet-coloured sugar and silver sugar balls. not only very pretty and a perfect birthday cake, but extremely moist, sweet (not sickly), and agoodbalance of ganache.

overall:
always happy with the quality of the cakes and slices, and will definitely visit again.
