absolutely love the pies here. they use really good ingredients in the fillings and the pastry melts in your mouth. they also do really nice fresh cakes and biscuits. i never like carrot cake until i tried it here.

we love joecelyns. highly highly recommend the blondie. fantastic cakes and tarts. breads are brilliant too. we love the packaged sweets, they're brilliant to fill a hamper with for gifts or take a box of goodies to a dinner with friends. it's pricey but i think it's worth it. we've ordered a few cakes and never been disappointed until our last cake order. we ordered salted caramel to feed 30 people, we certainly paid for it but we were okay with that because of how good the previous ones have been. sadly it was so salty, almost too salty to eat and very dry. that was disappointing. but always good service and we are prepared to order more cakes in the future and give them a second go. we love the chocolate cream cheese cake.

walking into jocelyn's provisions, it is easy to be taken in by the beauty of the cakes, breads and other provisions, as well as the slightly rustic feel.

unfortunately, we found most of the selections to be fairly average to slightly above average and overpriced.

we purchased a blonde brownie ($5.90), a salted caramel & chocolate tart ($7.50) and a bag of chocolate shortbread cookies ($11.80).

the blonde brownie was chewy white chocolate and macadamia. this was the highlight of our purchases and rates a 3.5.

the salted caramel & chocolate tart was a chocolate pastry and salted caramel topped with dark chocolate ganache. while eating this i could not stop thinking how much better the same tart is at matthew thomas (sandgate and aspley) - and the matthew thomas salted caramel & chocolate tart is both larger and less expensive. jocelyn's provisions' tart rates a 3.

the chocolate shortbread buttons had good flavor (3.5), but weren't a good value (honestly didn't realize they were this expensive until after i'd paid) - this too rates a 3.

would consider returning to try the bread and iced carrot cake, but there are several other bakeries that rate higher in my opinion.

mini meatball and lady meatball hit the brownie and tart before i could get pictures (except the box).

couple of days ago, i bought a cake for my mrs birthday. i was quite exciting that many ppl has been visited this place and this place has got such good review.

however, this cake totally break my expectation. base bread is awful. texture is just brittle in my mouth. cant tasty anything not even sweet. my mrs has same opinion and i brought my work mates. he chuck in the bin straight after one bite.

i have no idea why this place has good reputation. $35 is just blow to the air. one bite then never eat again like 10 days now.
still doesnt go off yet even doesnt have any fungus somehow.

not recommend and dont waste your money.

been a few times. the staff are always nice. the parking is hard to find. the poached fruit and the ricotta cake was alright and so is most of the things. definitely worth a visit if in the area and you find a car spot straight away.

exceptional as always.
the first time i was told about this little gem, i couldn't find it, & thought my friend was confused about locale.
he wasn't, it's just tucked behind a couple of restaurants & has a frontage in seemingly a 'home improvement' section of james st.
food is always beautiful, freshly made & a delight to eat.
it's a pity they don't have a little sit down area, to be fair... i'd have no idea where they would put it as it's quite a small space.
vege tarts are always packed full of tasty, chunky delights. every mouthful seems to have every vegetable possible in it (i had the mediterranean special today).
the polenta stack was filling for soming so small & dare i say, 'pretty' & also a winner.
i had a lovely salted chocolate tart as well, soo rich , soo, soooo tasty........
umm, yeah, anyhow, back to the review.
it's always, consistantly better than 'good'. try it if your a local (or visitor), sure win. they have a variety of prepackaged treats on the shelf, i've yet to try those.
it's not a cheap trip to the local bakery btw, i certainly didn't see $4 sausage rolls, so if that's your thing i'd probably keep walking. i think it's a case of getting what you pay for, & i think it's worth the cost.
staff aren't particularly noteworthy, finally managed to get a half smile out of my server. perfectly fine though.
.... guaranteed return customer.

the food is always top notch at this place but today i was treated in a very unacceptable way by one of the sales staff - demandingly snapping "what do you want?!" as soon as i set foot in the place - surely this is a shop where you would like to take stock of what is on offer before making a decision. when i said "i'd like to take a look first" she snaps back "suit yourself" and waltzes off with a sour face...just as well the passion fruit tart was a winner with my family this evening - might take me a while to go back in though - i must say the girl who did serve me in the end was exemplary.

if you're going to a bakery like this in james street, you know it's going to be a little more pricey than others - so for that i won't dock a point.
yes this bakery is truly top quality and it shows. their cakes are delicious and devoid of that awful manufactured taste and touch. they're moist, delicious and beautifully presented. a perfect gift for someone or finish to a birthday.
their quiches are overflowing with chunks of fresh veg and i appreciate how rare that is to find!
would recommend the sour cream chocolate cake - smooth, lush and to die for.

have been going here for years for cakes. our favourites are chocolate sour cream and the vanilla bean butter cake. don't ask them to do anything out of the ordinary if it be for a special occasion though as it will cost you a bit. last few times i have found the staff unpleasant so won't be purchasing here for my next celebration.

a 'pecan and chocolate brownie' ($5.7) was a buttery chocolate brownie with crunchy pecan pieces topped with white chocolate ganache. laid my eyes on it when we walked in but it just looked very very sweet, which it was. the chocolate brownie was very buttery with lots of crunchy pecan pieces which melts in your mouth when bitten. it was very moist and an easy comforting food, however the white chocolate ganache was much sweeter than i thought it would have been, maybe even without it, i would have also liked it. the closest cafe from jocelyn's was vroom bistro. there were many dining there and a few having coffee. since we just couldn't be bothered walking back to where we were going to originally, and it was rather getting quite hot, we opted to try here since we haven't tried vroom before anyway. we sat down but the tables seemed to still be quite messy with the previous diner's food. we tried getting the waiter's attention but they seemed to only be lingering around or just trying to avoid eye contact. when we did catch an attention, all we received was a short reply stating that they will be right back or they will be with us in a minute. but there, after a minute, five minutes etc, they still didn't come. we ended up going up to the counter to order and telling them again to please clean our tables. so, customer service? a no for me..

disappointed. i tried to find brisbane's best hotcross buns and jocelyn's provisions kept topping the list on every review so i decided to take the plung and buy 2 trays. the buns felt heavy and smelt good so i raced home to try out my prized possession. boy was i dissapointed - my buns were at least a day or so old. not fresh at all. i now have 2 trays of buns that are on,y good for toasting. not impressed !!
