in my opinion the beststeakrestaurant in auckland. thesteakis always perfectly cooked. but what beats that are the accompaniments... ask the waiter to recommend the right sauce, sides and wine to match... you will not be disappointed. the staffs knowledge of wine and food is top notch.

this place, hands down, has provided the beststeaki have had (just as well with these prices).  definitely on the upscale side.  i'm also not one to drink alcohol but next time i intend on ordering the wine to refresh the pallet, that way make every bite worth it.  did spend about $210.00 here for two of us.

the food

bone marrow (3/5) - this one melts in your mouth.  my rating for this dish is only because i was bitter about one solid part in one of my bones.  it is normal for the fibers to join and harden.   i probably wouldn't get this dish again but it is definitely worth a try.

baked candied kumara, pecans (5/5) - this dish was perfect!!! warning, it is extremely hot at first so be careful. the texture and taste goes perfectly with steak.

jsh creamed spinach (5/5) -  cannot fault this dish one bit.  compliments the whipped potato.

whipped potato puree (5/5) - this side you cannot go without, unless you are allergic to potato.

onion rings (2/5) - hmmmm i'm not weather it was that the onion rings bad or that the other dishes were so good that this dish was worthless in comparison.  either way i prob wont order this one again.

sirloin 9+ firstlight new zealand (7/5) - first time i rated a dish this highly, it melts in your mouth, flavorful... organism for the taste buds.

king cut (6/5) - i ordered this 24 hours prior to booking (as stated on site), and i have to say another perfect cut. it'll be hard to taste anothersteakand be satisfied again.

the environment (4/5)
i liked the acoustics of the room, despite how close tables are, allowed for easy conversation.  the lighting was great.  the place is a little upscale so me in a hoodie and shorts might not have been appropriate (i'm rebellious like that). all in all like the environment.

the service (5/5)
our waiter was on point.  very satisfied with his service.   i hope he got my tip.

worth it?
hell yeah!!! steep on the prices but def worth it.

brilliant service, very professional and friendly staff. came here for a special birthday dinner and they served and cut the cake for us free of charge, and kindly took photos of our group.
the food is worth the price. i had the calamari entree which was delicious and a good amount. for main i had the free ranch chicken with a side of carrots. it was a beautiful meal, really flavoursome and juicy. the people who hadsteaksaid it was brilliant.
i had a blueberry cocktail which i enjoyed a lot.
unfortunately our table was by the door so i got a bit cold when people came in and out, and it was a bit close to the front counter. but apart from that everything was perfect.

every time i dine at jsh i come away satisfied.
the steaks here are simply the best. i highly recommend the signature prime rib, which you have to order 24 hours ahead of time because its slow cooked for about 12. this results in an extremely tendersteakand fat just melts in your mouth, the queen cut was plenty with all the other dishes.

the sauces are jam packed full of flavour, the side dishes are great especially the candied kumara, plus i recommend the calamari schnitzel as a starter.

so if you have a special occasion and are looking for the top streaks around, i highly recommend this place.

food was very delicious, the beststeaki have ever had, but this is a once in a rare occasion type of place (quite expensive)- was charged surcharge despite using eftpos. servers very friendly albeit one server-

jervios is mine and my partners regular. we like to visit the restaurant at least once a month. we cannot fault the place on anything. even though some times the restaurant is extremely busy and we have to wait a little while for our food, we are always compensated by the amazing service and food expertise.

my favourite dish on the menu is thesteaktartare, it's a must every time. freshly ground top gradesteakserved with fresh herbs and seasoning, topped with raw egg. absolutely sensational.

beautiful establishment. service was impeccable. 9pm booking on a friday night and they don’t rush you.
entree, ordered the white bait fritters and the grill prawns. i thought the egg overpowered the actual taste of the white bait. the lemon butter sauce was more on the lemon side but it paired well with the fritter. the grill prawns was out of this world scrumptious. had to suck out the juices from the heads. cooked perfectly and the flat bread that came with it went well with scooping up the sauce and the prawn juice.
for mains, we ordered the chicken bread with harissa sauce and t-bone steak.
this was the only place that had the curtesy of bringing out your choice ofsteakraw and showing it to you what you’ll be eating. i thought that was an awesome practice on their part. thissteakwas the biggest we’ve ever seen and the biggest my partner ate. he enjoyed it thoroughly and was cooked exactly to his preference. for $97 for thesteakalone, you’d think it’ll come with sides but no. you have to order the sides separately. you get a choice of 2 sauces and we chose the jalapeño hollandaise & bernaise sauce. both went well but the jalapeño hollandaise stood out more. my chicken breast was cooked perfectly. not dry not rubber, just chefs kiss perfect. chicken was on a silver beet with harissa. cannot fault anything in this dish. all the flavours worked well together. for sides we ordered candied kumara with pecans. the sweetness of the kumara worked well with freshly roasted pecans. the whipped potato was nothing special. very bland no seasoning. the herb slaw with pecans was refreshing and i thought it cuts down the richness of the candied kumara. finally for dessert we had the pavlova with passion fruit curd and lycheesl ice cream. this was a beautiful ending to a wonderful meal. pavlova had a crispy shell but soft inside with a gush of passion fruit curd. lychee ice cream was subtle. went well with the tanginess of the curd.
overall experience at jsh was beautiful. between the 2 of us our bill came to $314 lol.
it’s on the pricier side of dining but its something you have to experience once in a lifetime especially if you’re asteakfanatic.

first time trying and will never return. friendly service initially but very defensive upon hearing their food is overcooked. several blunders including serving sauce when mentioned prior no sauce due to an allergy, and 2 inconsistently cooked steaks.
ordered 1 medium rare wagyu scotch and was served medium well. this was redone promptly but the replacementsteakwas medium rare on one side, blue on the other.
ordered 1 medium wagyu scotch and was served mostly medium rare but 1/3 through thesteak(started eating left to right) realised it was overcooked that it was tough to chew.
mentioned to the waiter that 1/3 of thesteakwas undercooked, 1/3 was overcooked and tough and asked what he could do because it’s so tough i couldn’t eat it. defensive that it was overcooked and it’s normal for the edge of the steak. then he said the head chef wouldn’t accept it as it’s only 1/3 of asteakleft. i can’t be the only person to slice intosteakas i eat instead of cutting it all up at once??
manager came over and said they wouldn’t replace a wholesteakdespite 2 steaks being inconsistently cooked (all good), but his take was that the meat had ‘cooked’ while on the plate and therefore became hard and overcooked. he suggested he can make me anothersteakand he thought i’d be paying for a 2ndsteakwhen i still had 1/3 of asteakthat was inedible 🤣. offered free dessert instead but i came for steak...not dessert. not all that glitters is gold.

i ordered the salmon which was beautifully cooked and very oceanic. the highlight of my dish was probably the broccolini which i would have gladly eaten a whole plate of. for sides we ordered the fries, onion rings and creamed spinach which were all winners in their own ways. ev’ssteakwas honestly so average and made me happy i ordered fish at a steakhouse. all i want to know is why?? the wagyu honestly just felt like i was eating sirloin from the supermarket and was nothing special. would i recommend jervoissteakhouse? if you want bomb sides then yes. if you want some delicious cocktails or mocktails then yes (the pink chihuahua was both delicious and lethal). if you want service with great chat then yes. if you want closely spaced tables where you can eavesdrop on other peoples conversations as you eat your dinner then yes. if you want a well cookedsteakto write home about then no, please save your coin. my overall rating of jervoissteakhouse would have to be one big meh, no thank you. never again.

i’ve been waiting a long time to try jervois and sadly won’t be coming back. we had the scallops to start with, which were not bad but the crackling that came with it looked like the crackling snack you get from the liquor store. we then ordered the wagyu scotch and a petite eye fillet and asked for both to be medium rear, i could honstly say i could have played hand ball or thrown it at the wall and it would have bounced back at me. it was so well done that the knife wouldn’t cut through it. the sides were 30 buks and pretty much out of a frezzer bag, your local bar would smash a better onion ring made from scratch, dokha on broccoli thats a herb for a confused place not asteakhouse lets keep it simple dont waste your money and save your fuel. don't be fooled by the reviews
